Our two grand children began attending 3 years ago in K4 and first grade. Their personal, emotional and educational experiences are a joy. Both like going to school- most days. Their “work” and the habits that are a part of this are helping them learn the material and life skills at the same time. I continue to be amazed at the integrated nature of the curriculum. Ancient cultures, fine arts, ecology, inclusiveness, astronomy and so many more areas are integrated. The boys talk about things that I didn’t hear about until much later in my education. The parents are actively involved with each other as well. I am glad they are able to have this immersive experience.

I can not recommend MAoJ enough! When relocating to Jackson, I was considering daycare, traditional early childhood education or Montessori. After touring the school and learning more about the Montessori method, we enrolled our child into the Redbud class. We were drawn to the emphasis on fostering a childs natural curiosity, use of natural materials, and inclusion of practical work in the curriculum. To say it was one of our best decisions is a massive understatement! Our child is thriving. He is more confident and takes such pride when he accomplishes his difficult works. The school communicates daily with parents via an app, giving updates on progress and giving this parent a talking point for dinner conversation. 4 years olds arent always the best at remembering what they did during the day and having a talking point to guide him allows us to fully engage. The school also holds quarterly parent connections, allowing us to build relationships and learn more about our childs current and future curriculum. I am excited to continue to see our childs growth and know he will be exceptionally prepared for any academic path he takes in the future.

My two children have had a wonderful experience at this school! The warm community supports the children and their families in all aspects of growth. The children are learning how to be independent, caring citizens. This transfers into their academic learning. The school celebrates all cultures and backgrounds and we always look forward to the school events. The director, Joyce, has worked closely with our family for years to develop the best ways to help our children. Every teacher has been open to discussion with us and I have full confidence that they have our childrens best interests in mind.

I called to inquire as to whether there was any open spots for a five-year-old to begin the Montessori program. I was told they prefer a child to start the Montessori way of learning at age 3. I have no issue with that. My issue is that the lady on the phone stated that they could potentially have or make an opening for a child if it was a girl and they had some Montessori experience. However since I have a boy she would not consider it because her class is already boy heavy.I did not get a chance to explain that my child has had a different style of learning as we are not from Jackson And we are looking for aschool that can match the curriculum that he is used to, which is very hard to find here in Jackson Mississippi. I was basically told best of luck and thanks for calling after of which I just basically hung up. This school is not open to teaching anybody new the Montessori style of learning. They are not open to exposing the Montessori story style of learning. They are only willing to expose individuals who already know about the style of learning. Thus they are not open to expanding their school and anyone else to the benefits of the Montessori style of learning unless you are already within the group of people who already knows about the Montessori style of learning. Good luck to anyone looking for better for their child here in Jackson Mississippi because the options are few and far between, and it is definitely not at The Montessori Academy of Jackson.I thought this school would be a great fit for my child but apparently since he is not already in the click and a boy, he is not fit for their school.

Both my daughter and my son attend the academy and I have nothing but amazing things to say. During their time, the exceptional teachers and administrators have fostered my children’s independence and given them a true sense of self through love, encouragement and the belief that every child is different. They communicate honestly with me and I never am concerned about my children while in their care. They encourage my children to use their words, to explore their passions and never be scared to try new things. They lead the children with so much love and honesty. My children come home everyday proud of what they have done at the Academy. There is a true community and the teachers at the school are truly the most amazing women that enrich my family’s life.

When we were looking for daycares, we wanted something more than what seemed to be a placeholder for our kids while we were at work. MAOJ turned out to be so much more than that. Mrs. Joyce has really put together an amazing community centered around the growth of our children. There is a huge amount of dedication and investment that is placed on each child and I do believe that the selection process is made with the community in mind. We have a great ecclectic group of families and I am so fortunate to be a part of the bigger family. I say family because the focus is not just on growth of development of our children at MAOJ but also at home. There are gestures that speak volumes to the level of commitment that is in place here. For example, Montessori compass app which is used daily.. we are given daily updates on activities, progress, pictures, issues in regard to each of our kids including supplies needed like diapers or fresh changes of clothes, if someone fell or skin their knee and what the circumstances were, the amount of snack and meal consumed, the potty and nap schedule... this is hugely helpful for us to trouble shoot and adjust our life at home to provide a consistent and secure atmosphere for our kids. Food provided is also better than what I do for myself and for our kids. It is home cooked on site and very healthy. On top of this, there are engaging and enriching activities that are weaved into the curriculum, like violin lessons given by a member of the orchestra for the prechoolers, a spanish teacher who strictly speaks spanish, and a variety of afterschool activities including arts, sports, yoga, STEM.. the list goes on. MAOJ is not just benefiting our kids... it has helped our family grow as a whole. There are several school-wide activities for the community to get together, several parent-teacher activities both individually and in groups including a series of parenting seminars. To illustrate the level of commitment here, childcare is offered during these evenings to make sure that busy parents like us are able to attend, learning and sharing our experiences with parenting philosophies, our household organization, our personal growth as parents, and ways in which we can can more effectively communicate, interact, and discipline our children. I have never felt more comfortable and more confident in our decision to have our kids at MAOJ. They have grown so much in such a short time and I attribute their sense of security, confidence, and fulfillment largely to the MAOJ community as a whole. We have been blessed not only to have such great and nurturing teachers who provide the highest level of personalized care to our kids, but also to be a part of a community of very like-minded, diverse, and caring families with whom our children will grow.
