Teachers go above and beyond the call of duty to make sure students succeed and thrive. Have had no instances of rude teachers or staff whatsoever.. They have all been very accommodating and cordial. To the point several have called on their own to praise my child for good decisions made, good work done, and being a good citizen in school.

1. I go here and its not that bad when you try to pay attention and actually learn.2. Some students suck, and some teachers cant stop them from goofing and gafing. One of my teachers could never stop the students from talking and he is the coolest teacher there but he cant handle students.3. Students can express themselves but not without being harrassed by a student or even a faculty member. Finally 4. Overall some teachers are good, some students play to much, and the education you get here is decent.

I was not one bit satisfied with jps or the educational program in Jackson county. Focus less on federal requirements and more on real learning needs to provide functioning members of society.

My child attended Parkside for 6-8 grade. I am a JHS graduate and supporter of public education. Parkside may be public but it does not qualify as an education. I want a refund. Seriously, I feel so ripped off every time I write a check for my property taxes. I also am disgusted that this passes as an educational institution in the United States—it probably would not in most developing countries. While there are a handful of good teachers at Parkside, the good ones are usually gone within a year. They are either pushed out because they refuse to lower their standards and don’t pass enough kids or they simply leave because it’s such a horrible place to teach. The music program, which is outstanding and has been for a long time, is the only exception. Unfortunately, since Parkside rebranded this place as an IB school the good students who want to participate in Mr. Krieger’s jazz band program are punished and have to go to school an hour early and start at 6:30 am. The IB certification is a joke—the teachers know it and the students know it. But the administrators like to pretend it has some meaning other than the big sign that replaced the previous “NASA” brand on the outside wall of the auditorium. My child received A’s in every class in middle school with perhaps one exception. In many of those classes she has had to do little to earn those grades and similarly has learned very little. The school’s primary objective seems to be passing the required number of students to avoid being placed back on the naughty list—not education. My child has received A grades for projects she never completed because the teacher “knew she would get an A anyway.” It became increasingly difficult (and then impossible) to explain to my child why she should spend any time on a project which had minimal educational value (and usually involved coloring or a word search) when she knew she’d get an A no matter what she turned in.The good students (and by good students I just mean students who are not disruptive and behave reasonably well) are the least of a teacher’s concern and these students spend the majority of their time napping or playing on their phones once they have completed whatever pointless busy work the teacher has assigned them that day. This isn’t intended to bash all the teacher’s at Parkside—there are some good ones—and they know who they are. Most all of the good teachers are in the fall of their careers and the school can’t attract or retain any new good teachers. I hope that JPS uses the mileage funds wisely and works to improve our public middle school. Parkside in its current state is shameful and new infrastructure won’t fix it.

Ive only had good experiences with the staff, education of my child and athletics at Parkside! Some of the students on the other hand are questionable and there does seems to be a lot of unnecessary bullying which once again stems back on students and possibly home life! There is also a problem with student thefts! Other than that all in all a good experience!

No structure, teachers are rude and lazy, abuse, harrassment, and rape are not uncommon throughout this school. Most students are from schools which expelled them for abuse, harrassment, or assault. Students have been raped at this school and Parkside has not done anything to stop it, making them a VERY unfriendly environment.

Void my last rating. This school is absolutely horrible. The teachers on the other hand, are AMAZING. They give insane effort into helping their students learn. Now if you look at the PRINCIPALS on the other hand.... They are the real problem. Your sugar coated NWEA scores can’t hide how horribly you watch over the students. The schools rules prohibit people from expressing themselves, and when these students DO, and are harassed by their peers, you principals do nothing. Accept the fact that the MEAP and NWEA scores aren’t going to help the students, experience wise. And you should PROBABLY pay attention to all of it, seeing we ARE the ones making the ratings that the community sees while contemplating sending your child here. Here are a few examples of how this school handles situations: (I’ve been here for three years, I have a ton of them)1. A peer of mine (Who’s name I won’t share for privacy reasons) had begun to have a panic attack at lunch, and we did our best to comfort her, though not irritate or intimidate her. One of the three principals, Mr. Tait, came up to all of us. He then began to nearly interrogate this student whilst she was having the panic attack. When we told him this would only makes things worse, he threatened us with detentions, and told us not to get a attitude. Then continued to interrogate her.2. At our 8th grade formal, clothing rules were set it place. This particular one being in that the boys could wear sneakers to formal, but the girls couldn’t. I brought up the point that some students struggle financially, since the area around our school has a high poverty rate. My principal Mrs. Jarvey did nothing about this.3. A student wrote a racist note to our Indian substitute. When the substitute showed such note to one of the principals, they did nothing. Since there wasn’t enough “Proof” a certain student wrote it, even though it was clear to the whole class, they had. It took another student telling our substitute the name of the student who had wrote it, and the student confessing, to actually get him suspended.
