I personally loved this school. Some of its features werent so good. In my opinion I didnt like the lunch. So I ate PB and J for the rest of the year. All of the teachers were nice. Some are strict but sometimes really nice! Our EX- principal Dr. Kupka was the BEST principal ever. Shes our EX because she retired :( . All I have to say is you will learn good at this school. Im going off to middle school. Good bye :D

So many 1 star reviews written by people that dont even live in the district based upon the short sighted actions of a few people. Yes it was awful what was done to the blind student but Gracemor is an excellent school and we are lucky to such a fine school in the neighborhood.Written by someone who does live in the district!

On the schools website it says Be Respectful, Responsible and Ready to Learn! Respectful my A**! Disgusting that the school took away a blind boys cane, his eyes, as punishment! Lets duct tape blindfolds over your eyes and take away your means for getting around and seeing and see how you like it! Completely disgusting!News flash! There are times where a blind person is going to accidently hit someone with their cane! Its how they see! Even if the boy intentionally hit another student with the cane, there are many BETTER ways of dealing with it than taking away his means of getting around and seeing! This act is cruel, humiliating, and shows that the staff at that school needs to go back to school! Be Respectful, Responsible and Ready to Learn! Practice what you preach!

My kids were new to the school and while kindergarten was great for my son, my daughter came home crying most days. In 4th grade she got bullied by a group of girls and after talking with the teacher AND principal it continued. I dont feel these individuals took enough action to stop the issues. At one point my daughter talked with the principal on an issue and was threatened to be suspended even though she literally did nothing to deserve it. I did everything I could over the summer to ensure my children will not attend this school again.

How many teachers are there at this school? How many staff members? You mean to tell me that ALL of those people are SO STUPID that they couldnt come up with a better solution than to take away the blind kids cane? Heck, I can think of three options off the top of my head- 1). Cover the cane with foam (or heck, even cutting up the noodle might work!) or something soft so the boy can still use it; 2). Have the boys parents drive him to school until things on the bus are resolved; or 3). HAVE a freakin conversation with everyone about the proper use of a cane!!! Three solutions, and Im not even a licensed educator! If thats the IQ level of this schools teachers and staff I certainly hope it is shut down as soon as possible.

This is a great school with great staff and teachers. You would be hard pressed to find a more friendly environment. These people do not understand what they are talking about. People are quick to write negative but forget the positive Teachers had nothing to do with the incident involving the blind student. That was a contracted bus driver who took the cane away and that was wrong but dont blame the teacher or the school. The student received the cane from the school district so before you say anything negative you need to review the facts. I would agree that the Driver should not have taken the cane away but then again why was the student hitting others with the cane? Would you allow another student to hit a student with a stick? I think we can all agree the answer is no.

I went to this school and the teachers and principles were nice. However I do not agree with taking away the cane of a blind child. That is the only way they can see and accidents will happen.

Shocking. I suppose they will take wheelchairs from kids that go unsafely fast in the hallway. Take braces of kids with polio that run down the hall. Take a kids prosthetic arm if he bangs on the door.

What deplorable people. taking away a childs only way to make it through the place on his own. how about if you were in a wheelchair, accidentally bumped someone and had to drag yourself ground level from then on.

Taking the childs connection to the world around him. All who thought this was a good idea, or knew about it, need to be removed from their positions.

Shameful. The teachers and usually the staff members are schooled in child psychology which is part of their requirement in obtaining and elementary education degree. I doubt this method of discipline is taught in college. So, that being said, I think the staff member who used this form of discipline should be blindfolded and told to go through one school day. Maybe that will open their eyes to the experiences blind people go through every day.

Its been a few days since the story broke & I still have yet to see anything besides a half assed apology on your facebook page. I pray for every child in that school, that God finds them a good school staff that has nothing but the interest of the children in mind.I pray specifically for the bus driver... may God forgive you & find you a soul, although doing what was done would have to require someone to have no soul, no heart, no empathy... if that bus driver treated one child like this, what has happened with others? Those poor children. And the staff that let this happen, may God find them souls too, as anyone who had one wouldnt have let this happen.

In my opinion, the person that took the child’s cane away from him should have charges brought against them for child abuse. This is his only means of travel and movement in a room or wherever. In addition, the person that did this should be blindfolded with a material that would not harm but made sure that they cannot see and be given the noodle cane to get around and see just how difficult it would be. The child goes by sound and feel of the cane. How inconsiderate the person that did this action is unacceptable. The principle of the school should be fired and charges be held against him to for the approval of this action.
