We sent our daughter here after multiple failed inpatient treatments. We were overwhelmed, lost, hurt, scared. My daughter was lost. After researching many options, we came across this one. We read the reviews, called the center and spoke on the phone about concerns. We were invited to come in and discuss our concerns and tour the facility. We made the decision that this place was right. I will never forget the anguish I had dropping her off, but also the compassion that everyone showed us and my daughter that day. Fast forward to the end of the program and beyond, WE HAVE NEVER BEEN HAPPIER!!. We have a happy, healthy young woman who is looking forward to life, God, and what is next for her! We asked her about her experiences and she said it was definitely hard, but she has no regrets about being saved. She even asks regularly, if she can go visit the staff because they were very important to her. If you have any reservations about the program for your kid, call them. They are very open and honest about what the program is and how it works. I pray that a place like this would not be needed. However, we live in a very cruel, hard world, filled with evil and temptations. Kansas City Girls Academy is amazing at bringing light into a struggling, teenagers life. We can’t thank them enough!!

Kansas City Girls Academy is a great environment for struggling adolescent girls to find healing and hope. I had the opportunity to work for KCGA for nearly 3 years. After working closely with the directors and staff, I can promise you that each person working at KCGA has a heart devoted to helping girls find hope in Christ amidst their dark and painful life circumstances. I cannot speak to the experience of students before I was a staff member, but I can say with full confidence that if you make the choice to send your daughter to KCGA today, you will be in the best hands. The staff are trained to help students in crisis remain safe, and the counselors use evidence-based mental health counseling practices alongside Biblical truths for daily application. It is certainly not easy for any family to come to the decision to bring their student to a facility like this. And no student wants to be away from home for 15 months. But I can speak to the countless stories of girls who took the program seriously, allowed it to work the way it is designed, used their temporary circumstances as a motivation for positive change, and ultimately let God into their hearts to change their lives for the better. If you are considering KCGA, please speak with the current staff and ask questions on their processes and practices. They are not afraid to address any concerns that you may have. If you are struggling as a family with your teenage daughter, KCGA can, and will, help you find restoration.

I stayed here 15 months from 2011-2012. I left with even more trauma than I came with. Majority of staff were verbally abusive, the practices were inhumane and they did nothing to help the girls work on family relationships. During my time there, there were only two counselors for 30-60 girls and no medically trained staff despite accepting girls who were withdrawing from heavy drugs and suffering from eating disorders. There’s not time to write about every abusive, unsanitary and morally corrupt thing that happened there. Majority of TCKCMO alumni would tell you the same story. If you care for your daughter at all, do not send her to this sorry excuse of a “faith based program.”

I was here for 9 months, here is what I and the other girls experienced:- neglect- refusal to address our physical and mental health issues- cruel an humiliating punishments- verbal and psychological abuse- excessive punishments- bullied by staff members- and much moreI still have ptsd from the trauma this place and their staff put me through. The parents who send their children here should be ashamed of themselves.

KC Girls Academy is a fantastic organization. For a long time, my family was actively involved in the Teen Challenge mission of helping young people face some of lifes toughest issues.Additionally, I personally know the executive director Alan and his wife Denee. As parents with a troubled teenage daughter, very troubled, & with adoption issues, we had tried everything available, through counseling & research, to get her back on a more positive road. Nothing was working. When a friend told us about Teen Challenge, we did our research, & enrolled our daughter. We felt God’s hand in our decision. WOW, the best decision we ever made. The Directors & Staff are very dedicated, & showed our daughter true love for her & her success. Their Christian faith is the basis for this programs success. Our girl found a renewed faith & trust in Jesus Christ as her Savior, with a peace & confidence she did not have before. Without that faith, we don’t believe she could have finished this program with the love, confidence & respect, that she has brought home. This is a tough love program, no doubt. We believe that’s exactly what our daughter needed to become healthy. We give 100% our recommendation. If you have a troubled teen, & you believe discipline & Jesus Christ is the answer, look into Teen Challege. We feel strongly that Teen Challenge saved our daughter, saved our family. The brand new directors of Teen Challenge Kansas City Highlands Girls Home, Caleb and Niki Dixon, are doing a wonderful job of making this program all it should be. They are young and their enthusiasm and care for troubled girls is infectious. They have stronger financial backing and have instituted standardized training and practices designed to make this a first-class program. Highlands is headed to be one of the finest such programs for troubled girls in the country. If you havent met the Dixons or have been on campus lately, you will be genuinely surprised and pleased by what is happening there.

We sent our daughter she when she was 17 years old. She turned 18 while she was in the program. She wanted to stay and complete. We are so thankful for a place where we could send our daughter to keep her safe while she was having a hard time with life. So Thankful for the loving & caring staff. Our daughter learned do much about herself and most importantly the Love of God!!

The directors of this TC are phenomenal, genuine people. They are passionate about the Lord and seeing the Lord transform the girls who enter their campus. If you are in need of help with your teenager, reach out to these guys! You won’t regret it!

I graduated this program over two years ago. It was the hardest time of my life because it required me to face my issues and make a decision to change. Teen Challenge didnt fix me; it was a safe place that provided the tools I needed to seek the Lord and to seek healing. I am grateful for the time I had there, and for the opportunities I was given. Without it, I would not be alive.

I have never met two more dedicated individuals as Alan and Denee. The love they have for the girls at their Teen Challenge location is unquestionable, but it is the knowledge, experience and dogged determination to succeed that sets them a part. I have both professional and personal experience with this team and can not recommend them more highly.

Ive had the pleasure of knowing Alan and Denee for over 18 years. Their hearts to see young peoples lives transformed is contagious. They are one of the best examples of a Christ filled couple and are making a tremendous impact in the Kansas City area. They lead with grace and desire to see every student that comes through their program transformed and set on a path towards a success future.

Do not recommend!!! My husband and I needed help for our daughter. They said they could help and they new her history. For 1200 dollars they picked her up. When she proved to be a challenge to them, they called me at 430 in the morning to come get her. She was there only 4 days. They eventually agreed to 48 hours pending new placement. However, within the hour they called and said they were taking her to the hospital. The hospital later called and said Teen Challenge refused to take her back and that we needed to come get her or she would be placed in Juvenile Detention.

The leadership from TC KC Girls is absolutely incredible. I love the Biggers family and all theyve done to shape my life. I wouldnt be where I am in ministry without having them set an example before me.This team is the real deal!

Honestly, I made great long life friends here and still talk to them today. However, this isnt a fix on your daughter forever.. I had a honeymoon period with my parents that lasted about 2 weeks, and I still went home surrounded by everything I was around when I left. Its been about 2 years since I was in the program, its very forceful and sometimes you dont feel cared for at all just abandoned. Dont send your daughter here, go to family counseling or get her to read this review. You can help your daughter by not sending her away across states and by loving her and just showing her you want to help.

I went when I was 16, for just a month, before my mom realized I didnt need to be there. Im 26 and still have nightmares about this place. Pictures are definitely deceiving.

Teen Challenge was the best decision I have ever made. Our daughter was struggling with many of the things young women deal with in our broken society. The staff at TCKC is personally invested the long term health of all the ladies in the program. It is a level based system that focuses on the love of Christ and addresses the causes of our daughters anguish rather than medicating the symptoms. As a father who loved his daughter deeply and saw no help in sight, teen challenge was perfect light in a very dark world. Thank you TC.

Ive known Allen and Denee individually for over 15 years and as a couple for as long as theyve been married. Allen brings incredible insight as a leader, both as a pastor and as a keen mind that understands the tension in fathering well. He leads by love and accountability. Denee also brings incredible wisdom in the way she walks with students through hardship and brings order and beauty to whatever shes a part of.
