Wayyy better than High School // Highly recommend // Full Review BelowI registered for CSN after high school and this is my experience + advice:It has its ups and downs but let me tell you: I am an introvert, second to youngest of five siblings in a medium-low income family, and I wasnt certain what I wanted to do career-wise. I was one of those people who didnt even consider CSN an option in high school because people always told me bad things about it, (youve probably heard the same). But Im glad I didnt listen to them! Im a current student at CSN and Im genuinely happy to go to class every. single. day. I cannot stress enough how many resources are available here. People are so quick to write a bad review about one bad experience; out of about 10 experiences, one was meh and two were okay but the rest were great. Just be persistent like, keep asking and emailing and updating and advocating for yourself because its so worth it!! All my professors are super chill and actually care about their students. If this is a worry for you literally just check ratemyprofessors.com lol. The library is bougie and clean and all the facilities are super accessible for people with disabilities. I swear all the doors have that automatic open button. The student union looks like its owned by Tony Stark, really clean and modern, with a mini Starbucks/cafeteria inside. Honestly, I dont know if theyve gotten more funding or better staff over the years but this school has truly gotten *chefs kiss*. Oh, and the best part is I got a ton of financial aid so I had way more than enough to buy books and all my supplies. They offer a lot of scholarships and have raffles and stuff for $$$, especially for recent graduating high schoolers, so you probably wont have to pay if you do your FAFSA early and budget the costs. Btw.. All the buildings have huge letters ABC etc, so if youre worried youll get lost just print the colorful map on their website. Some other notable things:You get a $10 printing credit per semester, its like a few cents per page so..Go to some events, it was hard to meet people bc of the pandemic but I got a ton of free stuff like shirts, water bottles, lanyards, f o o d.. and everyone is super nice at thoseDont be worried if you dont have friends! I actually dont feel weird going alone to events or to the library, once again its super chill everybody minds their business..Get lost lmao, nobody cares if youre walking around aimlessly so go explore and find a space you like for studying. But dont be afraid to ask for help either!Overall, a super chill study/hang space to escape from all the crazy ppl in Vegas, a good education (choose your profs. wisely!!), a safe/accessible place for disabled and nervous people, and cheap for the value & services they offer.I dont really write reviews but I do truly recommend you go here :)

I called the financial aid office to notify them that I needed to cancel the disbursement of a loan. They first of all gave me the wrong information and an attitude for no reason. I told them I would call back after I figured out what to do with the info they gave me. I called back and was on hold for like 10 minutes, they would pick up the phone and I heard whispers, then they would put me on hold again. Then they proceeded to pick up the phone ask me what they could assist me with and when I told them put me back on hold mid sentence TWICE. I had to hang up because I had to get ready for work and could no longer deal with their shenanigans. Im going to call again and hopefully get some proper help.EDIT: I called again and my problem was solved. The financial aid person was very helpful and quick. The people I talked to yesterday were the complete opposite. They were just not willing to help me and explain to me that there was a misunderstanding on my part and didnt tell me what was wrong.

My education is now on hold because of the staff’s unwillingness to correct a mistake that they themselves made . It is incredibly heartbreaking to see how little some of the staff cares about the students attending their college. I called into the Registrar office on January 21st at 4:45pm to confirm if I was within the time period to drop a class with no W penalties & receive the 100% refund. The lady that I spoke with told me I was in fact within the correct dates to drop with no penalty . After ending the call I proceeded to drop my class that way I could enroll in a new course. In order for me to graduate on time I would have needed to take 2/3 classes all 4 semesters of 2021 . Well I found out about 5 days later that she gave me the wrong information. She did not check to see what kind of class I had and because it was an 8 week instead of 16 week course I was suppose to drop it the day before classes started. I did not have access online to check the policies myself which is why I called into the registrar office to double check. Because she told me the wrong information I dropped my class and now have a W on my transcript which placed me on academic suspension so I am now ineligible for financial aid( which I needed in order to pay for my schooling), in addition to that I am out of the $388 i spent on that class . I saved up all the money I could to pay for these classes & now have to prolong my education and graduation date because none of the staff in registrar office is willing to do anything to help me. I was told I have to file an appeal (which I shouldn’t have to since the mistake was made by their staff member) but I did anyway, still haven’t heard a single thing back . That head of registrar Bernadette LΓ³pez-Garrett is a very rude and uncaring person who should not be in her position of power if she does not care about the students attending CSN. She did not have the slightest care at all that one of her staff members made a simple mistake that could easily be fixed, she told me the calls are not recorded so she cannot pull my call to verify I am telling the truth and because I do not know the name of the young lady I spoke with that told me the wrong information there is nothing she can do to help me . I was unable to enroll in any other class for the spring semester & probably also will be unable to enroll in any other class in the later semesters until I get this resolved. I am absolutely devasted at the response and lack of acknowledgment the staff at CSN has provided me . I thought we were suppose to trust the staff members and teachers that they were here for us, but it is evident all they care about is money. If I missed a payment they surely would of had the situation fixed Immediately but because it was a mistake made by them, they do not care to try to fix it. I have been emailing and calling various staff memeber for help over the course of about 2 months now and still have gotten nowhere. It sickens me these are suppose to be who my education is in the hands of. The only Person willing to help me thus far has been Garner Presser, however he is a academic advisor and does not have the power to make this mistake be corrected . Garner presser should be the head of this entire community college as he actually cares for his students and what is right. If anybody has any information or someone they may appoint me to to get this fixed it would be so much appreciated. πŸ™πŸ˜“

When talking to someone on the phone make sure you ask all questions needed or you will keep calling back. It’s better to to talk to advisors or school staff in person because they seem less engaging through phone other than that I think the school is pretty nice.

I am writing this review for the College of Southern Nevada as a whole. Horrible institution; Oh theyll be quick to promote themselves as a college that values all opinions, cares about its students, has knowledgeable administrative staff, caring professors, etc; but once you actually register youll soon find out its the complete opposite!I attended all 3 campuses from 2014 - 2017 & got my AS associates here, & it was generally an overall negative experience. Ungrateful and uncaring financial assistance / registration employees who absolutely hate their lives and jobs. Dont believe me? Call them up and ask them questions regarding assistance. Its full of counselors who could care less about the students career path, and give them vague wrong information, which could cause the student having to take a course that doesnt count toward credit *ahem*, me.out of all the professors I had here I would say 1/4 of all the professors are actually really good instructors and good people that genuinely care about the students which Is why I give them two stars rather than one. Most professors could give less of a damn about the students; how they are doing, course understanding, grades. If you are the type of student who is quite or doesnt conform easily to political correctness then prepare to be stigmatized here by self worshiping pompous, snooty, conceded, huff and puff professors. Their free student tutoring feature is also the bottom of the rung as they employ undergraduate students whom they themselves know just about as much on the topic as you do; few tutors are actually really good and genuinely care though.I had an overall negative experience here, ow well whats been said is already done, I am glad I am done with this miserable place & never have to step foot here again!

Amazing school that has allotted me opportunities to provide for my family, all an an affordable price! I started off doing my CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant ) License. Which then allow me to get a job in the hospital and make excellent money, flexible schedule and be home with my kids and watch them grow. Then I worked on my prerequisites for the RN program. Now I am in the RN program at CSN. A lot of my colleagues are spending upwards of $40K-$90K for their RN degree and I’m only spending $10K and the starting pay is $65K-$70K for nurses. Huge return on investment. The professors are amazing. There are some less than stellar ones but that’s all schools. The services they allot to students like $10 a semester to print (each page .05cents), 10 free counseling sessions for students, free tutoring, its all so helpful. Plus I’m embarking on a career I love and not paying an arm and a leg for it. This time around I’m going to school for something meaningful, lucrative, and job security! Thank you CSN!

If youre considering to attend CSN or any of its campuses I strongly recommend that you reconsider. This poor excuse for a community college has literally no structure or intent to help new students and rather just get you to pay for over charged courses taught by instructors not professors. When it comes to getting money the administration will go way out of its way to ensure you speak to live person to collect that tuition but once paid theyll drop you into the quagmire of broken automated phone service and admission and student services office staffed by other students that dont have any intent on doing their job and literally sit at their desk and text away on their phones. CSN is by far the worst investment of time, money, and effort. Not to mention once you do attend the school long enough to apply for better colleges they will hold your transcripts and ignore any request for them. Attempt to get UNLV bridge program or attend online college or alternative college. Dont fall for the CSN ads that they bombard the radio, TV, and online with clearly that is where all the money goes to deceive more people.

Aside from the office staff and their practices, it is a decent educational facility. Decent instructors, decent classrooms and a decent property (not enough online classes for the common pre-reqs though). Pray you never need to speak with the financial aid or cashiers office. They are insanely slow at their job and you get scripted answers with poor customer service. It amazes me how they can be so close to each other and still they screw up the easiest and most common sense things. It also amazes me how long financial aid refunds take at this school. We live in a digital age where all of that accounting can VERY easily be handled automatically. All that has to be done is their I.T. department needs to set it up to where at 12:01AM the system does the work for them and then the only time they need to step in is when the system red flags something. Sadly, this isnt the case here though. Most students use their financial aid refunds to purchase books for the upcoming semester and their office staff is just so freaking slow at processing financial aid awards and financial aid refunds.

When you ask for guidance, they simply tell you, you have to find whats open. No counselor available to help the young students (first year) navigate their way through the enrollment process & find the classes they need that actually serve a purpose. Admittedly, the fin aid office and the office of the registrar as well as the transfer department are slow to act. Even when I knew that my calc 1 and 2 classes from another institution were transferable, the institution placed them as extracurricular courses. After contacting the head of the math department and getting that all squared away, I really havent had any severe problems. When I had questions, I made sure to ask them right away, even if they sounded silly, just to make sure I had everything in check and would not have to come back. Its kind of hit or miss with the teachers and the courses, particularly in the sciences department. Ive been going here for almost a year and even signed up for summer courses online, and my counselor has been very frank with me, especially considering my major (mechanical engineering, a degree CSN does not offer, rather it ends up being an associates of science with an engineering focus). I like that there are courses that can be finished within four to eight weeks that are offered online as well as on campus, it makes getting thing finished so much easier, which is especially helpful when youre working full time and going to school 3/4 of the time. Cost becomes an interesting scenario, especially when youre getting into higher level courses (which are more expensive regardless of where you go) and youre considered an out of state resident. Its sill less expensive than some of the other schools that I have gone to, or my friends have gone to (roughly 4200 a semester for out of state for 11 credits). Its a good place to get what you need to get done and then move on.

Then insisted that she told me and I walked away to avoid an unnecessary headache.

The classrooms are large and some of the classrooms have charging units in the tables. It’s a rather large campus so a bit of walking but very clean.

Their chicken strips are so small. They’re the size of chicken nuggets! And it’s a 8 bucks! Don’t get the chicken strips unless you want some chicken nuggets that you can get cheaper at McDonalds.
