Our daughter has been training at this Dojo under the instruction of Sensei Ruth and Sensei Avi since she was shy of 4. As a micro premie this dojo has been a blessing to her development. She is now 9 and is a brown belt and competes both internationally and nationally. If you want a place that will teach your children discipline, provide a positive and fun experience, and nurturing your entire child than theres no better place then Rokah Karate. We actually train from 400 miles away via Zoom, while both Senseis watch and correct each movement with fine precision.

My son has been training karate with Sensei Avi and Sensei Ruth for the past 2 years. At Rokah karate you learn from the best, they teach the kids with love, positive affirmation and yet in a strickt and respectful way. Especially during the pandemic Rokah Karate provided karate classes via zoom for all their students 6 days a week. This place is a family run business and once you join, you become part of this amazing family. We have met amazing friends here. Hands down the best karate studio anyone can be part of. We love Rokah Karate.

Studying karate with Avi Rokah is like studying physics with Albert Einstein or like taking guitar lessons from Jimi Hendrix. His technique is flawless and his knowledge seems to be limitless. Hes a generous teacher and an all-around good guy. His classes are just this side of holy. Life-changing, invigorating. You will get stronger, physically and mentally. Its very much worth your time.

Our 3 kids all attended and LOVED this dojo. One of our children continued her karate journey with Rokah for years, and I can attest to the fact that Avi and Ruth foster a wonderful nurturing and also competitive environment, offering opportunities to the kids to grow, learn and even compete nationally and internationally. My daughter competed in Vienna Austria with Rokah last year and it was an experience she will never forget. They are also incredible instructors for adults. The best in the city by far, we had tried several other dojos and karate chains before we found Rokah.

Iconic karate studio that adds to the richness of Los Angeles. My kids and I have trained here for nearly 10 years. Each and every class is very intense and focuses on building skills at every level. Everything starts out with a complete explanation and I always learn something new. Beyond building karate skills, regular training here strengthens the body and mind. Many highly skilled members train regularly, and visitors from around the world often come here to train.

Rokah is an extraordinary place to study traditional karate and both Avi and Ruth Rokah had put their hearts and souls into their exceptional karate program. The knowledge of Avi Rokah is simply unparalleled. Movement is not only based on tradition but on science. This minimizes injury and help the practitioner achieve to the highest level. I have been a student at the dojo for over 25 years. Parents--as an educational and school psychologist I highly recommend Rokah karate as a part of your child(ren)s education. My son is with Sensei Avi and Sensei Ruth since his 5 years old. We are Japanese and of course we were looking for traditional Shotokan Karate lesson at that time.Luckily we found Rokah Karate through our friend and they are following tradition which is difficult to find in Japan. Their teaching is not only Karate technique but also discipline. Sensei trains and teach Body, Mind and Spirit as a whole. I have no doubt that what my son learns at Rokah Karate will asset, tool and foundation of his all life.

Avi is to Karate, what Yoda is to the force!Avi is a former world champion, the technical director of the World Budo Karate Association (WBKF), and the leading student of and heir to Hidetaka Nishiyama (the man who introduced Karate to the US). Avi has the 3 qualities that are key to being a great martial arts instructor: 1. He is an excellent practitioner. 2. He is an excellent teacher. 3. He is a mentor who cares deeply for his students, and his connection with them enables them to commit and continue training and improving, even during hard times, and life changes (Virtual Karate classes via Zoom were initiated by Avi in the first week of lockdown, and are still going strong). My son (17) has been training for 12 years, and my younger daughter (12) for 7. Avis complete commitment to Karate, and to his students, has enabled them, along with a great deal of work on their part, to advance in their martial arts abilities, their friendships with others in the Dojo, as well as in their overall capabilities. If you have children (Ruth, Avis wife, a very accomplished martial artist in her own right, organizes much of the youth program, including a team that competes internationally) , or want to start training as an adult, Rokah Karate offers the absolute highest level of instruction in a supportive, non-threatening environment.

Sensei Avi and Ruth Rokah have been amazing with my daughter! She started off as an 8-year-old and is just about to become a teen who will test for a junior black belt! The training Avi and Ruth have provided has given my daughter confidence and has given her discipline...she is twelve after all, and kids will be kids. Avi and Ruth give every child personalized attention and since the Covid-19 closure, my daughter has worked out with Ruth privately on their lawn or mine. Aside from that, the Zoom sessions that have been hosted has allowed the students to continue training. I look forward to her being back in the dojo, but until then, Avi and Ruth have provided such amazing specialized attention for the children during such a crazy time that I would highly recommend Rokah Karate to new families who are seeking a worthwhile activity for their children.

There are so many karate schools in Los Angeles that when my daughter wanted to learn karate, all I could do was start with an Internet search. I selected this school because it seemed reputable and the location was convenient. But we soon learned that we had walked into something much more special. Avis lifelong dedication to karate shows in everything he does. Hes wonderful and caring with the kids, but makes it clear that he will not indulge disruptive behavior in the class. When the kids show a passion to learn, he engages them even more. There are no gimmicks at this dojo. Ive seen people from all over the world show up just to train with Avi, and he travels across the globe to train the most dedicated martial artists in the world. Its a privilege that someone like Avi is here running a dojo in Los Angeles and that anyone can choose to learn from him. Dont miss the opportunity.

I started my son at this dojo when he was five, to get him involved in more exercise. Six years later, he stills trains twice weekly training at the Dojo, under Sensei Avi Rokah. At eleven, he is strong, fit and has amazing body stance and reflexes both in and out of the dojo. Although Sensei Avi has worldwide karate commitments and travels to teach karate in europe, each student feels like a personal protege. Five Stars!
