I joined the studio last year, definitely love this place. I took several classes and workshop here, and all of them were all very good! You can always get inspired by the people around here. The community is pretty friendly and supportive as well. If you have questions, you should stop by during the weekend looking for Lindsay and ask her some details about the studio, she is awesome! and experience the creative vibe here. Hope you will also have wonderful clay time here soon!

I have taken two pottery classes here, one just ended this past week. Mary is a fantastic pottery teacher. I had never done the wheel before and she makes learning fun. She has lots of fun analogies and silly names for things. It keeps the class environment fun and light. The prices for the pottery classes are reasonable, especially after creating so many different art pieces by the end. I really enjoy the first time potter class, so much so that I took it twice. I cannot wait to try another class, maybe the advanced beginner pottery class. Thanks Self Help Graphics & Art, you all are awesome!

I came here for the Whiskey tasting event. What a neat place......I plan to come back when its less crowded so that I can see the artwork and handmade jewelry better. Definitely a place to check out if you like one of a kind pieces. They also have a wide array of class options should you want to take one.

Took two art classes there, intro to drawing and practical anatomy. The staff is very friendly and eager to help you to become a better artist. The price per class is a bit pricey though. Most classes are 5 weeks with $170 to $200 depending if you are a member or not. However, in my opinion, its worth it if you want to expand your knowledge.A lot of parking and extremely close to public transportation.Be sure to try their pie in their cafe.

I live in an affordable housing community. The housing community is part the East LA Housing Community Corporation. The corporation is kind enough to host events on site and keep us abreast of and invite us to events around East LA. Last month a representative came to my door and invited me to an exhibit at the Self Help Graphics & Art Center. About a week ago, I took the time to visit the center and peruse the exhibit. Oddly enough, while there, for 45 minutes to an hour, several people saw me, looked at me, but did not acknowledge me. There were what seemed to be interns, volunteers, staff members, artists, etc. - at least ten people, and not one person smiled at me, nodded at me, let alone said a word to me. This is not only odd, its rude. Perhaps I came at a bad time (though within the hours specified on the flyer I received), but I wouldnt know because no one said a thing to me. Maybe they were in the middle of something, just wrapping something up, or just starting something (there was no indication of any of this); no way to know because no one said a thing to me. So Im left with the conclusion that the interns, volunteers, staff, artists etc. are poorly trained and/or rude and unprofessional. That said, the art and the exhibit were good and it is great that a place like this exist for the community. I wish I could have learned more by speaking to someone about it while there, but oh well.

Finally having a chance to check this place out this past weekend, courtesy of ArtWalk Ravenswood, it was pretty impressive. The studio itself is enormous, with multiple levels of studios, gallery space, and classrooms. Compared to some other local studios and spaces, Self Help Graphics & Art is pretty high-end, as Im sure you know. There are enough classes to have something for everyone, and theres a cute little cafe right when you walk in. The only thing that was a little overwhelming was the size - I would probably be a little intimidated coming in with no background whats over. Im partial to my [smaller] pottery studio, but hey, Im very biased!

Self Help Graphics is one of the oldest printmaking institutions in Los Angeles. Infact, they helped make printmaking a tradition in this city. They continue to be a welcoming collective that produces fine editions and pioneering artists. Printing my Pico and Union lino-cut edition here was a great experience, and I will be printing here in the future every chance I get.
