I had my hair retouched and colored by Brandi Kuhry. What an absolute amazing job she did. She was so professional, and very knowledgeable as to what my needs are. I showed her a picture of what I wanted and she matched it exactly. She also blow dried and styled my hair so when I left it looked beautiful.I would highly recommend Brandi to anyone and I definitely will be following her wherever she goes after graduation.

I would like to say that I wish that I’d be writing here a good review, but unfortunately that’s far for the case.I’m looking for an Esthetician Program, so I checked Paul Mitchell Beauty School and Aveda Institute in Los Angeles.I checked the Aveda website and I fell in love with their eco conscious philosophy.I called the Admissions team of The Aveda Institute of Los Angeles and to get more info about their program and she was very dry and rude to give my basic info, then when asked me 3 questions: 1. If I had high school degree (yes), 2. If I’ve ever committed any felony (no) and 3. If I was a US citizen.I informed her that I am a permanent resident, which gives me the same documents that a citizen has, except an US passaport, and she said then I wouldn’t be able to apply for their school.I called to the California Board of Barbering and Cosmetology and they informed me that there’s no such a thing, specially because I have an American ID, social security and Tax ID number.Later, I called again to talk with another member of the admission team to check the same info, and then the person that that I must be a US citizen, giving as reason that it’s because they hold a hybrid education (virtual /in-person), so I asked where I could find that information, then the person took 5 minutes and came back to me saying that was a regulation from the US Department of Education.I hung up, went to the US Department of Education website, and I didn’t find anything that supported that argument. After I called my Lawyer explaining the situation and she said that it is discrimination, because that’s no regulation prohibiting a permanent resident to apply for any type of education (hybrid or not hybrid). So I gave one more chance to it, and called the admission office one last time asking if they could send me by email the regulation that they were mentioning. The new admission women rudely explained (I had the impression that every single person of the admissions office are not capable of answering the clients over the phone in a nice and professional way) that it was on the US Department of Education website, then I told her that I checked the website and didn’t find it, then she said the absurd that I should call to the US Department of Education then, cause maybe their regulation is not written there (WHAT? It is a public regulation, it got to be formally published), then I asked her if she could do the favor of sharing the source of the information that she was giving me and she said she hadn’t anything (???).Anyway, if you are the owner of this place please contact me if possible. Your staff has not been professional at all and this and it’s a shame, cause the institute apparently has a lot of potential but they are killing it as the “face of the business”.

DO NOT ATTEND AVEDA INSTITUTE LOS ANGELES. I AM A CURRENT STUDENT AND I CAN TELL YOU THAT YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE THE EDUCATION YOU PAY FOR. THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH EDUCATORS AND THE LEADERS OF THE SCHOOL DO NOT CARE ABOUT ANYTHING BESIDES GETTING A PAYCHECK. DO NOT LET THEM FOOL YOU INTO BELIEVING THAT AVEDA INSTITUTE LOS ANGELES IS A PRESTIGIOUS SCHOOL. YOU WILL BE DISAPPOINTED. USE YOUR $30,000 AT A SCHOOL THAT WILL ACTUALLY CARE ABOUT YOU AND YOUR EDUCATION.

When I read these reviews before I went in I was a little nervous but I usually take reviews with a grain of salt and go in for my own experience. I met some of the students at my job. I work across the street and was told about their services and the pricing so I was interested to come check it out.Just for others to be aware: this is a school and they are gaining experience and may not be at their best. If you have high expectations you might want to pass this up. They have you sign a waiver before so you’re aware that this is a school and they’re learning.I got a facial and my eyebrows done. I waited for about 10 min and was greeted and taken downstairs. I had a great experience. The girl asked if I liked my brows and to not be afraid to tell her if I didn’t and I asked her to just fix one spot up and I was happy. I got a facial done as well and it was very relaxing and I was very happy with my experience and I am all about giving my time to someone who wants to learn and get better at something they’re interested in. I was prepared to possibly have bad brows come out but everything turned out great.I was very happy with my experience and the friendly service I got. I will come back again.

Elise was absolutely wonderful!I am SO Grateful for her amazing work, attention to detail, understanding, and professionalism! I came to the salon desperate for someone to fix the disaster I let someone do to my hair while traveling, and she not only managed my anxiety with poise, but she also absolutely SAVED my hair!Elise and her instructor Alicia knew exactly how to fix it, and executed perfectly.I would HIGHLY recommend to anyone that they ask for Elise when they book their apt, and have already told all my friends and family.Everyone with whom I interacted in the salon was immensely helpful!Thank you so so much again! Seriously saved me!

Very bad. My neighbor got very lovely haircut at Aveda. And hair coloring too. Was very happy. I decided to give it a try. It was very wrong. Girl, who supposed to cut my hair (different from my neighbors) should not be allowed to face a client. Not only she was not ready to make a haircut. She did not know how to fix cover around my neck. I was fully covered in my hair at the end. I am not going to start with haircut itself. Too painful. Young girl was not ready. Some day she will. But those who responsible for letting it happen at least had do wave my pay. I paid.

I just moved here from Dallas,TX, where I regularly went to Aveda for hair services. The visit I experienced the other day at Aveda on Weyburn Avenue was pretty terrible. I arrived on time for my appointment, and as I waited for my stylist, I was approached 5 times and asked if I was someone else (apparently there was another client before me and they couldnt find her). They were walking in circles not sure what to do. Twenty minutes later they took me in. I told the student I needed a bang trim and how I wanted it. Her teacher came over and cut my bangs worse than they were before. I told her they were still uneven, she said, well thats how your hair naturally falls. She had no clue what she was doing and she was teaching her student wrong. She cut them again and said, well your hair is naturally heavier on one side, we cant fix that. The floors were dirty, covered with hair, tin foil, hair dye. When I went to walk to the bathroom there was no space to squeeze between stylists and chairs to get there and no one seemed to care.I drove 45 minutes to get to the appointment, paid for parking, spent way too long at the salon, and ended up with a terrible bang cut.Definitely need more quality teachers here, more organization, cleanliness and professionalism.

Cheap but depends if youre willing to have a 1-2 hour haircut plus a half-decent massage or facial by a student. I got a trim and layers, and it looked nice (although it is hard to mess up layers). They also offer a discounted happy hour on facials on Friday.

Love it. Cheap cuts. Students are really nice. It is a school, so lets not complain about a terrible job, if you dont like it try paying the $60+ on a professional Aveda concept salon. I love it. I get pretty awesome cuts from the students.

The students are not taught to even be able to cut layers. I paid extra for a senior student and the only thing they could do was a straight line. there are much better schools around go to them instead.

The person giving me the haircut soaked me in water while washing my hair. My clothes were wet. Then while giving m a haircut, I pulled my hair so bad. Then she got stuck not knowing how to do the haircut. Then she starting looking & there chatting with other people walking by. When I said I would like for someone else to help me out, they said no one is available & the person helping me out doesn’t feel comfortable now to help me & that I should leave. They asked me for money, I had to walk outside by half my haircut. It was very humiliating. The manager is very disrespectful. Please don’t ever go there.

ABSOLUTELY THE WORST EXPERIENCE. Will not be coming back. Its cheap, so shame on me for thinking it might b kind of okay quality. I asked for a trim with layers and got no layers but at least an inch off. Ridiculous. The way they styled it- it looked horrendous. No refunds either. DO NOT COME UNLESS YOU REALLY ARE IN A PINCH MONEYWISE. Its cheap as hell and your haircut will be ugly as hell. Stylist made no effort to consult w me. I showed her pics and the result is nothing even close. I will never be coming back.

I had a great experience at the Aveda Institute. I was just looking for a cheap quality haircut (no color) and that plus more is exactly what I got. I specified when I made my online reservation that I preferred a senior student. I was a little early but after checking in with the front desk, I was brought to the back relatively quickly. My stylist, Jackie V., was professional and did great work. In addition to a great haircut, I received my choice of 2 Aveda rituals from 4 options (I chose mini facial and scalp massage, but dont remember the other two options). I also got 20% off a product as it was my first time. Some things to note are that because it is a school, they do check-in with instructors at designated times to ensure that what they are going to do is ok. The plan is reviewed and the work is checked. Additionally, the students are not as quick as a regular haircut. There was also a little back up at the hairwashing station. All this meant I was glad I had parked in a lot rather than at a 2-hour meter.I plan to return for future haircuts!

Please take every one star review with a grain of salt, when getting a hair cut at any of the Aveda locations you are required to sign a waiver basically stating if something goes wrong they will not be responsible because these are students in training not professionals with years of experience under their belts. With that said lets get to the review. At Aveda you will feel very welcome by friendly staff and the students who will be providing services, making an appointment is easy and you are given a 15 minute grace period if you are running late. It is also a good idea to cancel at least 30 minutes ahead of time if you know you cant make it as to not disrupt a student from classes. So far I have had 3 haircuts and all my experiences were excellent, of all the places I have gotten my haircut they always consistently give me what is desired and I have never felt this confident with a haircut in my 20 years of being on this planet. You cant go wrong with a full service haircut for under 50 dollars and helping students learn more and practice their passion.I highly recommend giving this place a try at least once despite the negative reviews.

The worst pedicure Ive ever had. Total amateur night! She kept referring to notes, and barely got off my old polish before she started applying the new without base coat. The salon looked dirty. The towels were stained, and there was no sign of sterilization of the tools. I left without staying for the manicure.

I went to this institute for the very first time yesterday to have a color re-touch (roots only). I spoke with the student about what I wanted and handed her a typed document stating what I wanted. It included my Aveda formula: 1 to 2 bowls of 30 volume 60 grams Deep 11-N and instructions: Apply to new growth only; Dont overlap, pull through, feather; Do not add gloss, violet, or tones. The student is only about 1/2 way through her program, but she was educated enough to discuss the number of bowls with her instructor. 1 to 2 bowls of Deep is different (ie, double amount) than 1 to 2 bowls of regular color. So, they decided to make the bowls as they needed them, which was great, because doing so saved me money as only 1 bowl of Deep 11-N was required. The student applied the color to my new growth and chatted with me while it processed for 45 minutes. After she rinsed my hair, she added conditioner and wrapped it in a hot towel. During this processing, she gave me a hand and forearm massage. Once she dried the crown of my head, I could see that the color was perfect. There was no line either! Since I have very long hair and I didnt want stay there for a blowout, I left with wet hair. But they put conditioner in it before I left, which was super sweet.I was very happy with the customer service and color experience at this institute, which is in stark contrast to a recent experience I had at Aveda Institute Phoenix (AIX). While at AIX, their Educator, Cosmetology Team Lead, and winner of their 2014 Inspire Greatness award (Angie Perino Nelson) turned my crown Polar Bear White and then fixed it by turning all 3 feet of my blond hair yellow as in Crayola Crayon shades of yellow. This was in spite of both verbal and written instructions I provided--just like I gave to this STUDENT at Aveda Institute Los Angeles. My advice is to park in a paid lot and then go to the appointment realizing that theyre students, so it will take a long time because theyre slower than experienced professionals. Bring in anything and everything you can to relay to the student and instructor what you want to achieve. These could include magazine photos, personal photos, a ruler, written instructions, drawings, etc. Once you establish a good Aveda color formula, ask them to share it with you so you can use it at other Aveda salons and Institutes in order to maintain consistent color.

Unfortunately, my personal experience was barely OK. They did a good job in coloring my hair, however, the environment from the front door on foward was NOT GOOD. The entire area of the town is FILTHY including Avedas institute.. The brass front door handles are dull, greasy, dirty and dingy. Inside, I never felt the place was clean. My friend went with me and had her makeup done... all the girl did was add eye shadow, mascara and eyeliner. Didnt even clean her face and apply new foundation. That was a week ago and after we got home, within 12 hours, my friend broke out with a severe eye infection and today, the doctor has put her on 3 antibiotics due to an invasive infection throughout her body - she now has diarreah, and is sicker than a dog and the doctor said she has an infection from something she has been exposed to. Unfortunately Aveda must not care much about the surrounding area including inside their salon. Again, the girl who did my color touch-up was OK, but I would NEVER go back as the institue is dirty. In observing other patrons, I feel the general attitude of the institute is basically a free-for-all; there was nothing professional about the entire place. I am shocked Aveda would allow such behavior and the gross lack of concern in all aspects in their Westwood/LA location. Trust me... you dont want to go there!
