Ive been working with Marty for a few weeks to continue my Spanish learning and hes been great. Hes very friendly and easy to talk to, I feel very comfortable asking for clarification when I dont understand words or phrases. He comes prepared to each lesson with questions about my work week, future plans, etc. so I get a good opportunity to practice my conversation skills while getting a well-rounded understanding of terms. I have been doing an immersive study in German with Jerilyn Phippeny...who teaches her classes purely in German...and she is a delightful instructor. She is also very adamant in her belief about the immersion technique, so much so that she may fight you Mortal Kombat-style should you oppose.Just kidding, she would commit no such violence (at least not that any survivors have admitted).I knew it would be overwhelming going into it, and I was correct, but it does quickly help you to understand the language rather quickly. The Duolingo assignments and other homework between meetings is also very helpful.So, if youre looking to learn German (or any other language she may teach), Jerilyn is certainly my recommendation.

I made more progress learning Spanish in one year with Marty than I did in 3 years of high school coursework, Rosetta Stone, and countless apps combined. The texts provide a solid grounding in Spanish grammar and syntax, which allows me to focus on speaking Spanish in our weekly sessions. And Marty always takes the time to work through unusual or unique constructions to make sure I understand how and why the language works the way it does. I cant recommend Strommen--and Marty--highly enough!

After a trip to Germany, I was interested in learning German as a new language. I love the small group structure that Strømmen facilitates. I took classes with Aleksander for about a year and went from beginner to conversational. Aleksander was very helpful in establishing the basics of the language and laying out a roadmap on what is important to know when building the foundation of German speaking.I am now taking speaking classes with Jerilyn that have been extremely engaging and fun. It can be so intimidating to practice speaking a new language, especially with strangers, but Jerilyn makes it a creative and casual experience. She really promotes having fun and forming definitions by explaining in your target language rather than just providing an english translation. I would recommend Strømmen and Jerilyn to anyone who is looking to turn language learning from a monotonous memorization exercise and into an engaging and social adventure!

Elisa does a great job of guiding me through the nuances of Italian grammar rules and is very patient with my practice. The text includes key exercises to reinforce the lesson, which Elisa backs up during our weekly hour. Zoom makes it easy to interact and to bring up additional resources on the shared screen. Beyond just being a native speaker, Anastasia has been really adept at helping me understand the rules of the language and how to best grasp them as a native English speaker. I decided to learn Russian to get closer with my fiancée’s family and I’m really glad I did. One-on-one lessons are a lot of fun, they’re tailored to my ability and are just challenging enough to help me progress. And they’ve been just as great over Zoom during the pandemic. I was nervous to try this, but it has been a really rewarding experience.

I’d been trying to learn Russian, on my own and in classes, for the better part of a decade. When quarantine fell upon us, confining us to our homes, I thought “what better time to finally learn Russian?” I can tell you that taking one on one lessons with a Strommen teacher has been one of my best investments. Anastasia is a patient and eminently knowledgeable teacher, who not only knows how to teach but how people best absorb language. Learning Russian without getting completely overwhelmed by grammar and spelling is no small feat, but Anastasia makes it easy and enjoyable. All of the lessons build on one another, and we review older material periodically to make sure the foundations are still strong. I have been taking Italian with Valentina for several years. I am at the point know where I can have conversations with people for extended times about most subjects, excluding technical matters.I can also read large sections of Italian newspapers and magazines.I can understand large sections of video and documentaries. (Movies and television are hard for me because of the use of colloquial expressions and the speed at which people talk at times.)Although I occasionally some mistakes, that is natural for non-native speakers.My preference (at this time) in class is conversation, which is what we usually do, although she is able to give very good instructions in grammar and explain things if I have a particular issue. If I feel like doing a translation she is very helpful with that also.Strongly recommend her.Dave

Good app easy to use

Ive been living in Berlin for a month and a half now and it seems like nearly every day, Ive been complemented on how great my German is. I had the opportunity to work with Emanuel at Strommen for 5 months and I am so grateful for his teaching methods and penchant for correcting pronunciation because I have been able to communicate A LOT more comfortably living here just by understanding the nuances of the language. I cannot stress enough how much I enjoyed learning German with Emanuel and 110% recommend him and Stommen

I am taking Spanish (starting at the beginning). I have never been good at following through, but Ive kept going with this because the small class size, the casual setting, and because Danny is very encouraging. I am enjoying the relaxed atmosphere of the class, and Im actually progressing also. Danny is fun and adapts easily to the changing needs of his students.

Danny is an AMAZING teacher and its been half a year since weve started our Spanish lessons with him! As someone who already speaks Spanish, Ive actually learned A LOT and have seen major improvements in my Spanish. Words and grammatical structures that I thought were right were actually not the best and Danny has helped me improve upon that. My Spanish is getting more refined and Im actually understanding why certain grammatical structures are the way they are.My financé, who only knew the bare minimum of Spanish in January, has grown the MOST and has even corrected me at times with Spanish! Danny is super patient, understanding, and thorough with any questions we have every single lesson and its honestly very hard to find that in a teacher these days. He has a nice balance of keeping the lesson entertaining, fun, but also challenging. Were very much looking forward to continue to learn some more Spanish with Danny and we definitely wanted the Strommen Team to know that they have a great teacher in their team!

I love Strommen. In fact, I wish I was rich enough to just hire a tutor to follow me around all day.I first signed up for the German class in West LA, but since the classes did not fill up, I was left with the option to do 7 private lessons with Lukas.I think it worked out perfectly and learned so much. Due to my schedule changes, I signed up for a class somewhere near my job at another place and instantly regretted doing so. I miss taking my lessons on Saturday mornings! :( I hope to take another lesson soon!

Aleksander did a wonderful job helping me learn German. He is of course very knowledgeable about the language and hes very funny and entertaining. If I wanted to continue learning, or take up another language, I would certainly recommend him. A great experience. Tschüss!!

This is my first time taking small-group private language lessons (German 1 with Aleksander). Class meets once a week and it is very fast paced. You will need to do a lot of studying on your own if you intend to really learn the language. That being said, if you have the motivation for self-directed study I think you will find the group classes are a great way to get you moving. If you are looking for a more casual pace you may feel a little bit overwhelmed.My only reservation about the once-weekly meetings is that it can be hard to find opportunities outside of class to practice speaking and pronunciation. Again, it will be up to you to find strategies to supplement the course materials. This can be a motivating factor because it allows you to tailor your studies to your areas of interest.Aleksander is friendly, easy going, and seems to have quite a bit of teaching experience. I have really enjoyed my class thus far, and I would recommend it to anyone that wants some extra guidance, support, and motivation in learning a new language.

I was very pleased with the SAT tutoring I took there; very affordable one on one tutoring. Strommen Tutoring also helped me with my essay writing for college applications and now Im at UCLA! Theyre also located in walking distance of a metro red line station which was super convenient for someone without a car. Ive been to Sylvan Learning and tried some private tutors off of craigslist but Strommen Tutoring is the best Ive had.

My overall experience with Strommen was very positive. I had a limited time available before moving abroad and wanted to learn as much of the German language as I could before leaving. My first tutor was very knowledgeable, but also seemed resentful of having to do this work, as if it were beneath him. He was not the ideal teacher.Luckily, due to a scheduling conflict I was switched to Daniel Farshid Delshad. Daniel is not only knowledgeable when it comes to linguistics, he is enthusiastic about teaching. German is a difficult language to learn. Not only does Daniel teach you the language, he explains how history and culture shapes the very complex rules of grammar of the language.Daniel provided a solid foundation of grammar and vocabulary, and that has made my continuing language learning much easier. Im a fan of Strommen, and a huge fan of Dr. Delshad.
