This school is great. You get to meet a lot new people and along the way you learn many things. It was a great experience being in this school. I hope it brings the same out come it did while i was there. I dont think there is any other middle school which will be better for your child.

A good school but then some teachers can treat you like utter trash. They are very concerned for sexual harassment and bullying right now. The principle is amazing though, no one can say that otherwise

Class of 94, Proud to be an Alumni of such a prosperous successful group of Students. Those were some of the best years of my life. I was also apart of the first 8th grade class to graduate during the transition under the school board when 9th grade was added to all high schools.

As a kid from Louisiana living with my uncle, i can tell you this school was more than I imagined it would be. On any given day they were filming commercials at the front entrance. I was in awe at this and felt a magical connection being from the south. Overwhelmed? Not really, but my mind was really growing with the possibilities of making a difference and exploring new beginnings. Now mind you there were others that took the long city bus ride to attend, and they were so cool. Enough rambling, im back in Louisiana but JB is forever in me. That was 78-79, old school years.

Last semester, the 7th grade science class did not get a permanent teacher until the 12th week of instruction. Dr. Martinez (school principal) sent a letter home on the 12th week to inform the parents. This semester, the same 7th grade science class does not have a permanent teacher. It is approaching the 4th week of instruction, and it had been one sub after another. How will the kids learn? How long before they have a permanent teacher? What are the administrators doing?

First of all..I just graduated from this school (8th grade) and i barely learned anything at all at this school but maybe it was because i was in regular. They have magnet and sas but from friends i heard they just give you extra homework..It was a pretty rough year a lot of drama goes on there and mostly all student curse and smoke weed..there was an incident where this girl got arrested for performing sexual acts with another student..I kinda hated my teachers Mr.Sanchez (science) was really nice but i didnt learn much from him Mr.White(English) was a great guy and really cares about his students.Ms.Cruz(Math) Practically everyone hates her she has a lot of attitude and gives out a lot of homework and her tests were difficult so if you were unfotunate enough to get her you gotta study hard...Alot of people didnt graduate cause of her class...Mr.Bohaker(History) Was the best teacher he was super cool even though he gave out a lot of trash pick up his class was definitely entertaining however he just gives a lot of classwork but its easy so its not hard to pass the class and you always need to turn in your portfolio. This school is also really broke and their changing rooms have these mutant roaches that come from the drain which is absolutely disgusting..Most of the kids also know inappropriate things and use profanity so if you send your child here beware of that..Unless they are in magnet or sas maybe the students are different in that program. In 7th grade i was in advanced drama and it was the greatest experience with Ms.heath even though shes kinda rude and scary it was the bond you create in that class which was absolutely amazing. In 8th grade year i had spanish but the problem was we had a bunch of subsitues the school was stupid enough to make a spanish class without a spanish teacher so we had substitutes practically everyday and nobody learned anything the kids who spoke it always corrected to teacher..A similar situation happened in the 7th grade with a mat teacher named Ms.Mac problem was after winter break nobody ever heard from her again and everyone was worried about her after she left we had multiple substitutes one including Mr.Wahington who was an awful math teacher he couldnt teach it to save his life but i passed cause i was a teachers pet..My favorite time at this school was 6th grade my teacher Ms.Schwartz was the best teacher EVER no buts! She was an english and history and art teacher but we mostly told and wrote stories practically everyone was an author in the class and we all shared story telling memories i had gotten a 3.5 diploma! But yeah this school definitely isnt the best but the memories you make are priceless!Like green and Gold 8th grade year was loads of fun everyone got to make signs but that was only for students eligible for graduation all the activities you do in 8th grade you have to eligible to graduate grade wise or else you cannot participate.Another fun thing was the night dance dont listen to what anybody else says the night dance was hella lit and turnt!!The people who say its gonna be lame are probably just not eligible..The best part was graduation day everyone looked stunning and a lot of people including me dabbed on stage lol and we got to take final glimpses of each other before we all go to high school so yeah john burroughs curriculum was okay in regular idk about magnet or sas but regular was okay and a half but the memories you make are precious and amazing and great..Hope this helped

It used to be amazing before, but not anymore. Now, JBMS is gradually degrading from its status as being the model middle school. If you were a new student enrolling in John Burroughs Middle School, you might resort to praying to the lords (not that Im into that, but I feel that the situation is the most appropiate) that youll get teachers who not only CARE about your performance in school, but also can properly teach you the academic subjects from the curriculum--without having to constantly prate about irrelevant topics such as how terrible their students are (whether it be in keeping their mouths shut to something like their performance at school.. in FRONT of the entire class. Ive seen these situations way too many times, to the point where I almost felt bad for those who were publicly embarrassed by their own teachers) to their personal lives.Weighted on terms of importance in a school, an actual math lesson on Algebra outweighs a talk about what you did during the weekends. Teachers seem to forget this, thus using their classes as anything but academic.I wont list names. But I do hope that they get better math teachers; out of all, the teachers who are supposed to be teaching math are the main problems. Solution? Hire better math teachers, not substitutes.Same goes for the others, as well: the school must hire teachers who excel in doing their job best AND are amiable people towards their students as well. Theres no point in keeping up things like school spirit events, rallies, and PSAs if teachers (and staff) are discouraging to students. I have to admit, its quite vexatious to know that there are a few duplicious adults who keep up appearances in front of the students parents. And dont even get me started on the unwelcoming ambiance of entering the counselors office just to try to make a complaint. And once you do, there would be the option of either being dismissed (Oh, Ill take this into consideration/I understand. Ill see what I can do/You cant do that. Wait for next year to come is if you want to change classes due to issues regarding teachers or so) or being told to bring your parents to talk about it more.>Greet students parents and shower them with flattery about student and how theyre doing either fine or not (in a concerned tone, obviously) in school>if good grades, talk about issue... in a really general manner. Asks parents about their opinions on school and stuff. Parents, who see the school as a great place to learn, say how the school is great------->if bad grades, go onto subject about how said grades can be improved and talk about variety of options. Suddenly, parent conference? What happened to you wanting to change classes? May remark about how your performance reflects on you wanting to change classes = Get a perfect A on that class, better yet, ALL classes and talk to me again.. is how it will most likely turn into.Furthermore, John Burroughs Middle School seems to be highly sensitive in maintaining their social rep. Favorite methods of dealing with issues such as bullying/violence/personal problems are contacting parents, suspension, and threatening expulsion. Actually, they might go in order depending on issue (personal things are mostly contacting parents or talk with the adult). More or less explains the random events of inviting public speakers to talk about social issues (check their Youtube channel for more). Or host their own events about no bullying. Whichevers the most frequent. Conclusion? JBMS needs to change. Like, as soon as possible. Is it a coincidence that the former model middle school seems to make field trips for LAHS?..Plus points: Tolerable snack store. Easy to make friends? Library. With computers. Magnet program..
