You know Mr. Miyagi in The Karate Kid? That is who I associate Anglea with. I have had a few different voice coaches over the years, and she is by far and away THE BEST!You will not find someone more dedicated or knowledgeable of the skill of singing, but who is also time and again kind and compassionate in how she teaches.I am so beyond grateful that I found her. She is a remarkable teacher who not only challenges me but also creates pathways for me to meet those challenges. Even when I fail, she acknowledges how far Ive come. Teachers like her are a rare find. She constantly gives me these little nuggets of wisdom in how to approach a note or a word in a song to make it easier to hit. And it works every time like a miracle! I call her my singing Jesus - there really isnt a higher compliment than that!

I started taking lessons with Kathleen last July and have already come leaps and bounds, much further than I ever expected in such a short amount of time. Not only is she a world class teacher with extensive knowledge and experience herself, but she creates a safe atmosphere to grow and learn. Singing is a very vulnerable process, and working with her has fortified my vocal ability, strength, and confidence. She not only knows how to train your voice for general healthy use, but she also can specifically train you in performance and whatever vocal style interests you (pop, classical, musical theatre, etc.). I have wanted to be a great singer for literally twenty years, but I never had a teacher who could adequately verbalize how to adjust my technique for proper placement and tone. Kathleen has quickly and efficiently whipped my voice and my vocal confidence into shape.I also very much enjoy our lessons together. Shes a wonderful person as well as instructor, and I very much look forward to our weekly meetings. I am in love with this place. I have been seeing Kelly for a few years now and am still so grateful to have found her. My 5 year old daughter plays Tam in Miss Saigon on national tour. While we were in LA for a month with the show I brought her to Kathleen who was amazing! On one of the days I brought her my daughter was hyper and exhausted from a late show the previous night and Kathleen did an astounding job of still finding ways to sneak in some voice exercises, and games to help her learn the songs. Almost any other teacher would become exasperated or give up. It was amazing. Clearly a pro with both music and little kids!

I was fairly new to singing when I first started with Kathleen. I had gone to one voice instructor before and improved but was still just an ok singer. 1 month (4 lessons) after starting with Kathleen, my voice improved drastically. After a year, it was as if I had be a professional singer my whole life. She not only gives you the tools to better your voice, she gives you the confidence. She lets you work on whatever style and songs you like so that you are never singing anything you arent interested in. Great instructor, wonderful person, worth every penny.

I have had the distinct privilege of taking lessons for a few years now at the Singing Place from both Kathleen and Shealeigh. As soon as you walk in the door there is a slogan that says, “where talent is nourished” — and that is truly been my experience here. At one point in my life, I was a guitar player for a living, but I never really had the courage or vocal skill to step out as a front man— The Singing Place has given me both. I have found them to be first and foremost a place that encourages me as a singer to find my unique voice while developing my skill level. Because of this environment, it has allowed me to check my fears and insecurities at the door and enjoy the journey that it has been. It’s hard to really express how indebted I feel to this place. My voice has improved so tremendously that I am confidently setting out to record my first EP in 2019 and giving this whole music thing another shot. Thank you to a truly miraculous place.

Ive been singing jazz professionally in my home-country of Argentina since 1985, and since 1999 in The United States. Since the age of 16, I have been taking regular singing lessons with different instructors in Argentina and in The United States. Now in my forties, I had not settled on a single instructor teacher for all these years while in Los Angeles since I could not find a technique that really satisfied me. That changed when I met Kathleen through Seth Riggs web site. I have attended 16 classes with Kathleen so far, and am gaining control of my full voice and ridding myself of old bad habits!! I am convinced that Speech Level Singing is the best singing technique available, and Kathleen certainly knows how to teach it! I am expanding my sound, stretching my range, and my throat feels very healthy. I am also gaining confidence in my singing. What else can you ask for? Kathleen is helping me to reach my full singing potential. Period! I only wish I had met her before!!!

Ive played guitar in bands for 7+ years but have always wanted to be a singer too. I tried to teach myself how to sing by buying DVDs and watching videos online but that didnt work.I tried going to another voice teacher a few years ago but never felt I made much progress. That changed with Kelly at The Singing Place. After a few months of lessons, I sang I Want It That Way by the Backstreet Boys at karaoke in a bar in Montreal. Every cute French Canadian girl in the bar sang along and thought I was awesome. The lessons paid for themselves in that one night.

Hands down the best gift Ive ever given to myself. Ive always dreamed of singing confidently and finally decided to try out lessons. I was terrified before my first session, full of self doubt but ready to give it my all. Shealeigh made me feel comfortable right away and has been steadily giving me the tools I need to develop my voice. I have been taking lessons with Kathleen for over three years now and my voice has never been in better condition. I have been taking voice lessons for the most part of 30 years, and have two degrees in Music-Vocal Performance (singing), and have taken from some very reputable teachers, but was never truly satisfied with my technique, as I was not achieving the right sound I wanted. My classical training made me sound too operatic, so singing karaoke or contemporary music always sounded weird, as if I had two different voices. Learning the SLS technique has been a God send! I now have what sounds like one voice and the versatility I have in singing is incredible. If I want to sing contemporary, jazz, pop, country, musical theatre, I can. If I want to go back to my classical (operatic) sound, I can do that, too!The best part of taking lessons is that Kathleen is such an angel! She makes you feel very comfortable from the moment you walk in the door! Her gorgeous red hair, bright smile and always happy personality will set you at ease. She tweaks every lesson to fit your needs and knows exactly what to do to help you correct problematic areas lickety-split! She is honest but is so kind with her words that you dont feel like she is judging your singing during your lesson. She makes you feel like shes your #1 fan, because SHE IS!! Out of all of my voice teachers (and believe me, I have had MANY) She is one of the best and my favorite!

Working with Kelly is the best decision Ive made in the past 3 years. She helped me find my true voice and taught me how to use it. Now people are always telling me how big, unique, and special my voice is, and I wouldnt have found that without Kellys encouragement and training.

My daughter Alyssa Kennedy took lessons at the Singing place with Kathleen Kernahan since she was 7 years old. She went on to sing the National Anthem in Santa Barbara UCSB Thunderdone and was televised by Channel 3. You can watch it on You Tube. She is 16 years old now, and released her 1st single Need You on several platforms like I Tunes, Amazon, Apple Music, and Sound Cloud. . She also wrote the Lyrics. At her High School she performed on stage and has a You Tube video called To Make you Feel My Love. She will be releasing two more singles in the near future. My 10 year old daughter is a signed SAG actress with one of the Big 5 agencies as well as two other agencies. Her artist development team is comprised of some of the biggest names in the music business and they wanted her to take eight vocal lessons per month with a certified Seth Riggs instructor in preparation for her musical debut later this year - she will be the youngest female solo artist to debut on a major label in the history of the music business. She is working with the Producer for Selena Gomez/Katy Perry/Miley Cyrus to give you an idea how big this is and how important a vocal coach is for our needs.We interviewed all the top vocal coaches and what we found was the typical bloated egos who overcharge and under deliver, or worse yet, coaches who werent even singers themselves; or worse yet, coaches without proper certification. Folks, regardless of what you have been told, it absolutely IS NOT synonymous to charge exorbitant rates and care about your students, period!! If the vocal coach loves what they are doing and truly wants to help you, then they will charge fair rates, and if they dont, run, dont walk, the other direction. Also, in LA everyone is a vocal coach, just like everyone is a photographer. People, dont buy into that cr*p!!! Check their credentials, check their schooling, check everything before you hire a vocal coach or you wont see the results you are hoping for, or worse yet, a vocal coach without proper certification can actually damage your voice.If you want to look for a vocal coach and go through all of the time, trouble and disappointment that I went through thats your business. However, let me save you the hassle, and $$$.....I have checked most all of them out, and rest assured, to my knowledge, there is no better place to get vocal lessons than The Singing Place. We chose to go with Kathleen, whom my daughter has grown to love, not only because of her knowledge and professionalism but because of her compassion and caring attitude (nurturing) which is extremely beneficial for any student. However, I hear that the other instructors are also great, so check them out too. And, one final thought...my daughters NY music representatives who are involved in the careers of Beyoncé, Adele and John Legend, monitor her vocal progress weekly via video. And, from their lips....We are very fortunate to have found Kathleen and The Singing Place. You cant get better confirmation than that!Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
