There is no communication with teachers or students. When a student joins in the middle of a year they don’t have one on one time with a teacher to explain anything. The student has to jump in and figure ever out on there own and you are lucky to hear from anyone and you never hear from teacher coach that is suppose to help I have emailed call and text and it took 3 weeks to get a call back this is a laughing joke

I applied three of my children to this school and I’ve had to keep resubmitting documentation over and over and over. The documents were deemed unacceptable when they came from doctors offices and their previous school. An example, for proof of age, they need a birth certificate and I submitted it. It was rejected the same day no reason given. I submitted it again thinking it might be blurry. Again, it was rejected. At this point I am like okay what now. So this time the reason was it need to have the child’s full name and date of birth. It is clear as day on my child’s certificate. I have had to call numerous times and they couldn’t figure out why it was rejected. This is beyond ridiculous and at this point I am done trying. One document is accepted for one child while it gets rejected for my other child. It makes no sense. Only nice thing I will say is the dozen of women I have spoken to where as helpful as they can be. As to those whom look at the documents... yikes!

They do not give parents the training they need for success. They withdrew my students twice with no notice. The lessons were poorly put together and the assignments were complicated. I had computer issues and the girls were still expected to be on time for meets and get all assignments done. I had two family emergencies but my girls were expected to still attend. They are unrealistic with their requirements.

I pulled 5 kids from their brick and mortar public school and put them in the Idaho Virtual Academy. I found the enrollment process easy. It didnt seem like there was anything about the enrollment process that was really that different from putting them in a regular pubic school. I actually felt it was less paperwork. My kids still get their work done in a timely manner well before their old school even let out for the day and I feel they are getting a better education. They are able to focus better, their attitudes have improved and they are not so tired all the time like when they would come home from their old school. My kids do school work, chores around the house and we take field trips.I like that someone calls you every week to see how you are doing and to see if you have any questions or concerns. Every teacher I have contacted has been professional, polite and helpful. I really like that even though it is a virtual academy we still get text books and use them for every lesson. My kids really enjoy the class connects they have said they are really helpful and the break out groups have been amazing for my younger kids who needed a little extra help with reading.I think when people see online school they think its all the computer doing the work but really as a parent you have to be involved. You cannot just set your child in front of the computer and say See you when your done. There is a lot of work that goes in to this school with your kids especially when they are in the younger grades less as they get older but you still need to be involved. As long as this school is around I do not see myself putting my children back in a regular public school.

They have no training this year and was just thrown into school with no training. So customer service is not good and they cant even send the essential emails to you that they are supposed to.

The enrollment process is an absolute nightmare. The “enrollment specialists” struggle to make heads or tales of the process and don’t really seem to have an understanding of the requirements. This may be because the requirements are unrealistic and rigid. An example would be if the student you’re enrolling didn’t receive a report card as of your application date, for the current school year, your child will be denied as a current progress report is not sufficient. Additionally, you’ll send the same documents at least 4 times, in 4 different ways and still be denied because their representatives “can’t read them”. Either the resolution is low or the print is too small or something was blurry. When you finally find a way to get the documents to them in a way they’ll manage to read, they will still deny your child because of some silly rule such as your utility company put your name on one side of your bill and your address on the other. Madness! On top of all this drama, their phones don’t work half the time. When you can get through, you can’t hear or understand their representatives. Their website is not reliable and crashes often. This “school” is a mess, on a good day. I would never even consider allowing my child to attend an institution like this based on the enrollment process alone.

Getting enrolled is a pain, but once you have access to the curriculum, its life changing. The curriculum is beyond anything we have experienced, and we had done public schools, private schools and charter schools. This is #1 among other institutional options. The main reason it is superior is the individualized instruction, they must read, write and comprehend the material, for the system checks for understanding prior to advancing to the next lesson. Another main reason is do to the amount of invaluable computer skills they acquire. There is much weight on the learning coach, not much for one child, but I had 3 children starting was rough. The time demand is something I was not ready for, you must have an area for multiple computers or multiple laptops for multiple children. You dont want all kids trying to share one computer it would be impossible, we had this happen for a few days while we switched internet carriers and it was practically impossible for each need 4 hours on the computer. It is best to have them all do it simultaneously. You need entire bookshelf for each childs materials. They do send out a computer, printer and other materials such as: art supplies and science supplies. If you structure your time with this many children you could be done with school 5-6 hours, but it takes time to get the routine down. My first week was 8-6pm! This is mainly because with no access to the lessons until the day the classes loaded day of. This only happens for the very first week of enrollment though, then you have access to the entire year of lessons. The school offers multiple languages, electives and even online clubs. There are field trips you can sign up for, live school events, spirit weeks (crazy socks days), you have access to local school sports and extracurricular activities, as well as live chat classrooms, full of students. I am very happy with the school, curriculum. If you have the time I wouldnt hesitate!

Yeah 6 hours of school a day on top of 2-3 hours of class connects and multiple projects to where Im staying up till 10 doing school work every day and weekends if I do my chores. And when they say an hour a class they really mean 2 hours and the make you take all 6 classes you cant just take your core 4 classes so you have time to do all your work. Im constantly behind and was a B-C student now Im struggling to maintain C- in all of my classes not uncommon to be in the D range now. Worst mistake Ive made all my life is to try again my second semester Im transferring back to normal school soon thankfully.

IDVA was the worst choice I could have made with all 3 of my kids. They lost confidence and self esteem. Different standards for different grades, considered truant even when I tried taking them on a field trip to the planetarium and contacted the home room teacher, dishonest teachers who are hard to get in contact with when needed, my information changed for no reason and without my permission, not self paced or individualized program for each kid. This school is NOTHING like what they claim to be!!!

This is the worst school Ive ever been to, its website constantly crashes and is hardly functional it will court you as away if you are gone for 5 min witch forces you yo not save and re-log and its ciriculum is repetitive and boring, I enrolled due to social anxiety, ANF NOW ID RATHER BE ON FIRE ON A CLIF THAN BE HERE. If you were ever considering going here dont , they give unfair grades and all except one teacher was like a high school bully that didnt care if you failed, my parents were getting divorced at the time so my grades were low and I wasnt able to turn things in on time so what do they do? THEY THRETEN TO TAKE US TO COURT AND REMOVE ME?! They are corrupt, unjust, and cruel I was depress the entire time here never consider, never go.

Absolutely the most disorganized school I have ever encountered, and the fat that they are worse than Eagle Elementary is saying a lot.All school year we were given conflicting instructions and information regarding all aspects of our childs school experience starting with not allowing her to start school until late November after telling us she was enrolled in late August. The lack of coordination between IDVA and K12, their partner company showed and added to their confusion.Last school year was a complete nightmare, and we are still trying to sort out the misinformation even after the school year is over because they failed our childs first semester of math after telling us that she was doing Awesome the entire year through. total incompetence just doesnt seem to cover it...

We are very thankful for Idaho Virtual Academy. This is our first year with IDVA and our daughter is enrolled in the 6th grade. She attended a brick & mortar school K-5, her struggles intensified year after year. When her 5th grade teacher said that she wouldnt make it in junior high, I knew it was time to do something different.Confidence has replaced despair, she was giving up a year ago. The girl that was called lazy, unorganized & couldnt focus now sets her own schedule, plows through the work, is determined, organized, confident and sets goals for herself. She is a self-directed learner. Math used to bring her to tears, but now she is able to get the help that she needs daily between her wonderful/caring/dedicated math teacher, the internet and having individual help when she needs it. Her computer skills have skyrocketed. The students take daily assessments & so she is getting invaluable test taking practice. The first few months are quite a learning curve, but it gets easier after that. If you learn to go with the flow and how to handle setbacks to maximize time it makes it a lot more manageable. There have been very few issues overall with IDVA; when there are, the instructors are kind and very helpful. If youre worried at all about whether you can do this with your child/children, I suggest taking an online college class because IDVA is structured much the same way. Being an online student myself has been fantastic preparation for helping my daughter. Also, make sure your student is on board, because if they arent motivated, this could be like pulling teeth to get them through their work! My daughter was 100% on board when we started because she was having such a terrible time at a regular school that she is grateful for the IDVA experience and says the worst day there is better than the best day at her old school. If she wasnt determined, then this wouldnt work. Cant stress that enough. The curriculum is something that Im very pleased with because it is difficult. She is learning that overcoming obstacles is a big part of learning and that is increasing her patience and confidence. My only complaint is that we dont have a textbook for science. She is learning a lot however and we are doing labs/experiments which are often fun and helpful. At her old school, she only studied science once a week, now she is doing 3+ lessons a week. She wants to pursue biology/ecology or engineering and before IDVA, I did not see how that would be possible. But between how much better she is doing in math and the difficult science curriculum at IDVA, Im optimistic that she can do it.IDVA is not for everyone; but if your child is very bright, strong willed, thinks differently and isnt succeeding at a brick & mortar school, I think that you should give it some consideration. If your child is being labelled ADD/ADHD, Aspergers/HFA etc, then I really think that online school could be a beneficial change. We are beyond thankful for the opportunity to have a choice in our childrens education. I am not qualified to home school & couldnt do this without IDVA; they provide the structure, curriculum and teachers to keep us on track. As her learning coach, I supervise, support, motivate and guide, which are things that I can do. Without this option, our daughter would fall through the cracks of the public school system. If you can relate with our experience, I think that IDVA will be a positive choice for your student(s).
