I was a VERY nervous driver. So much so, I put off getting my license until my mid-twenties.I ended up taking about 15+ hours of driving classes with Joel. Despite many tears of fear and frustration at the beginning, by the end of our time together, not only did I pass my test, but I drove all the way back from the test which was near JFK airport in a storm!(Highway driving was particularly anxiety-provoking at one point.) I’m now driving regularly on my own, and in peace!I couldn’t recommend this driving school—and Joel specifically—particularly if you have a lot of stress about learning how drive.

Passed on my first try! So i was recommended Pds through a family friend who (had also passed their test on their first try and had amazing things to say). While i had a busy schedule pds was willing to work around it and accommodated my need for a drivers license asap. my instructor joel was amazing ! he took his time and explained everything very thoroughly to me, as i had some driving experience but needed to know the technicalities for the test, he gave me all the information needed and more, not to mention was so nice! Alex met me at 7 am the day of my test to make sure that i was well prepared for later that day ! he was also very thorough and easy to learn from. while making me drive he acted as if it was the test asking me to turn or make a 3pt turn or pull up next to a car and parallel park! this absolutely eased my nerves!! overall i cannot recommend Joel and Alex enough to anyone who is going to learn at Pds, this small business is absolutely doing it right !!

Terrible driving school. Rude, unfriendly, and very unprofessional.Edit:I would like to clarify what I previously said. I think it is only fair for me to provide examples of what I mean when I say I had a terrible experience. My personal instructor was absolutely awful at teaching me what I needed to know in order to pass my test. He did not teach me how to parallel park until the 30 minutes I had to practice right before my test. Upon not being able to learn how to master the most important portion of the test (parallel parking) in 30 minutes, he told me to just figure it out as I’m taking my test. In addition to that, my instructor was consistently smoking his juul e-cigarette both when I was driving or when he would take the wheel. He had horrible hygiene and the car smelled like nicotine throughout my driving lessons and during my road test due to this. It was absolutely disgusting.I could give other examples but I’d rather keep my review relatively short and concise rather than going on and on about every additional problem that I experienced.I purposefully decided to write this review once NYC was back to normal because I didn’t want to damage a small business’s reputation during the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic during which all small businesses were already suffering enough.I definitely do feel a little bit bad for writing such a horrible review in a time in which businesses in NYC are suffering, but I strongly feel that what I said must be said publicly for other people to know.If the company would like to contact me so I can further express what I experienced. Great experience!!! Had to get prepared for my US road test. Had been driving for over a decade in EU and Joel helped me understand the subtle differences between EU and US traffic/rules; very valuable. And I PASSED! Grateful to the team and in particular Joel - hes the best!!

Had a great experience here!! It was the only school that had been reviewed positively by Time Out and even though this was from back in 2003 I decided to go with them anyway. Glad I did!! I took 10 hourlong lessons and the 5 hour pre-licensing Zoom class over the course of about 1.5 months and passed the road test on the first try.I had Joel and Hoi as my instructors and they were both great (different styles but it was good to experience that too). Both were always on time, professional, and very engaged in teaching. They never slacked off and were constantly watching and advising. I felt like they were really committed to seeing me get my license.The front desk is also really responsive. I mainly communicated with them via email and it was always an easy process even through scheduling conflicts.I will say they are slightly more expensive than some of the other schools out there (and unfortunately didn’t give me the 10 pack discount even though I purchased 2 5 packs [had to because of personal scheduling uncertainties]), but I do think they’re worth it and I’m happy with the end result!!

Stay away from this company. The owner, Wilma is a thief. She refused to refund my unused lessons. She is unprofessional and is unfit to operate this company. I recently learned how to drive a stick using this driving school and this was the best route to take. My instructor was Gerry and he was very helpful, friendly, and the most important quality- patient. You NEED somebody with a lot of patience to teach you how to drive a manual. I took two lessons and I got it down enough to take a road trip from NY to FL a few days later. So this service was definitely worth it and its also reasonably priced. I definitely recommend this driving school to those who want to learn how to drive at all!

This was the best experience I could have hoped for. I was super nervous about getting back into driving and taking the NY road test, and I could not have done it without this school. I definitely recommend this school. The process was very organized and efficient. It was quick and no hassle to be set up with lessons that worked with my schedule along with the road test. Had never drove in my entire life, was nervous at first but with two months of practice and with the driving instructor Joel as my teacher, it became easier and easier each time. Joel is very professional, patient, really great at giving instructions, directions and explains everything so you have a better understanding of controlling the vehicle. When it came to parking, he lets you try parking on your own so he could see how you handle it then gives you guidance on what you did wrong and how to correct it. At age 35 with an expiring permit that Ive renewed once before I told myself it was finally time to go ahead and get my license. At first I was going to forego lessons and take the test on my own. Needing a 5 hour course I went to Professional Driving School of the Americas only because it was closest to my office. Im extremely grateful for my luck with choosing this school. The 5 Hour course was well taught. Making me comfortable with the service and quality of instruction Peary convinced me to take classes being that its been so long since last I drove. Which turned out to be another great decision. Joel my driving instructor was awesome (patient and very informative) For all your instructional needs I would suggests this school.

My whole experience has been great at this school. The 5 hour class was fun. The driving lessons with Joel and Chris were also great and instructive. No problems. The scheduling with Mel was easy. At the end I passed even with all the nervous mistakes I made during the test.

This Driving school is good. They are pretty strict if you are sick on the day of a lesson. The 5 hour classroom lesson on driving is quite an experience in torture, but I didnt expect much. The school is great at reminding you of important dates, very responsive and kind.Joel is a great driving instructor. He accommodated my schedule and was very professional. We focused on my weak points and he had some good advice for passing the test. He wasnt my favorite or calmest instructor but he taught me a lot about driving in NYC. I am your typical native New Yorker who barely gets behind the wheel so I took a 6 pack of refresher classes. My instructor was Manny - amazing teacher. He is really patient but also great at correcting anything your not doing right. He allows you to feel like your in control. I had no driving experience before and I know passing the road test in Manhattan is really difficult. I took my friends advice and contacted Professional Driving School. I like the fact that they will pick you up from your location. This is perfect for people like me who is only available during a short lunch break.Peary was the one that I talked to. She is very friendly and explains the details of every package clearly to me. She sent me emails with all my class schedules and picked up locations listed out. Every time if there is a change in schedule, she will send me emails again with new time and location.I told Peary from the beginning that since I am a beginner, I need someone very patient. So she got me Chris and he turns out to be awesome. He knows how to explains all the details and tricks in a simple way. He is patient and he is always on time. I think there were times that I drove terribly but he was never mad at me. He just kept practicing with me until I got it. He suggested me taking the last hour class on the same day as my road test. We got there early and he practiced in a neighborhood that has similar traffic situation as the road test. And he reviewed all the important details with me again and again for almost 2 hours. Right before the road test he also gave me a mock test which I think is very helpful. I passed the road test with one attempt which is totally beyond my expectation.I am glad that I have chosen Professional Driving School. Fantastic driving school, phenomenal instructors. I took both their automatic and beginner manual lessons with Gerry. He was very thorough and patient (especially with the stick shift lessons). Mel is awesome and got me the date i wanted for the test. Gerry was my driver and he knew in the first minute what i needed to fix. this was honestly the best experience i had. I passed the driving test!

Hello Everyone!!!I went to the school of Americas after reading all the positive reviews, however it happened to be that I was just losing my time!!People that are working there are not knowledgeable and they talk before they think!! Information that are important they do not know and what is always the worst thing they assume it!! I will not write my whole story and whole experience that I had there!I just want to tell everyone to double check information that you get there before you lose your time!Train and educate your staff!! Explain them that they should be listening to their potential clients and not interrupting them!! Empower them and teach them to never assume and to anticipate their client needs!!When you go there you will realize what I am talking about!!Good Luck!!

Professional Driving School is absolutely incredible. That Manny could teach my daughter to drive well enough to pass her road test on her first try is close to a miracle given how badly she drove at the beginning and how adverse she was to even learning how to drive (I made her do it though because I didnt want her to end up like me -- taking lessons as an adult when it is even harder to learn.) From everything my daughter said, Manny was patient, calm and encouraging and knew really how to teach her. And those who work in the office are helpful, friendly and accommodating too. I would recommend them to any one. (Note, I too took driving lessons with them almost nine years ago and had an equally great experience. Not sure how they pick and train their driving teachers, but whatever they are doing works.)

Joel is an amazing instructor that will not only help you pass the driving test but will teach you real safe driving. He is patient, always on time and cares about his students succeeding. I was a bit scared when I started driving, but Joel is one these instructors that teach with his heart. Always pushing you and correcting your errors. He also has fun stories to tell. Highly recommend.

My professor was extremely professional, super helpful and kind! He made me feel comfortable at the wheel and gave me helpful tips on how to pass the exam! This guy wont overwhelm you with a billion tips, he goes straight to the point, which is great! Really recommend! 😁

The school is incredibly professional, communicative and accommodating to changing schedules. But more importantly, my instructor Joel was amazingly patient, kind, punctual and best of all, helped me pass my driving test on the first go! Definitely ask for Joel if youre a newbie at driving. A really fantastic teacher!

Joel is most AMAZING instructor EVER!!! He gives you ALL the tips that you need to succeed for the actual road test! He gives great feedback and is extremely patient. He also SUPER friendly! I HIGHLY recommend him!

I have been driving for years outside of the US, but after having moved here recently needed to get my NY license as they wouldnt recognize my foreign one here. A friend recommended Pro Driving School to me. They were very good at getting me a prompt appointment for the test. I just took the 1.5 hour lesson before the test itself to make sure I was fully familiar with what the local testers are looking for. My instructor, Luz, was prompt and on time, she was friendly and professional and was good at pointing out any little things that could cause a problem in the test itself. She was very knowledgeable and helpful and I would recommend both her and Pro Driving School to anyone else looking to take their test. Happy to say that with her help I passed the first time.

Great driving school!After a long way of finding a right driving instructor i finally found the most knowledgeable and patient instructor Joel! If you want to learn how to drive and also enjoy it, he is your guy.

I passed my road test (on automatic!) first time round thanks to my instructors (Gerry) patience and clear, step-by-step teaching methods. I started learning, a total beginner, on stick shift a year ago, and while it took me some time to get back to regular lessons, the staff at the school were always flexible and friendly in setting up lessons, the prelicensing course, and finally, the road test. I have a couple of friends who learned to drive here, so I knew I would have a good experience, even as a first time driver in the heart of Manhattan!
