I found the courage to take piano soon after retiring. Seven years ago I bought a guitar...that guitar sat collecting dust more than it was touched. This year I decided it was time to take learning guitar seriously. I had taken lessons in the past and tried self paced learning online but what I learned in those never stuck. I found out about Adkins Guitar through searching online and reading reviews. I gave it a shot and called and funny enough they were moving to a new building that was even closer to me. It was meant to be! The studios space is super nice and well maintained. Special shout out to Zach who has been my guitar instructor. 4 months later and I’m still taking weekly lessons and practicing consistently. Zach has been encouraging, makes things so easy to understand, and makes learning the guitar fun. You can tell he just absolutely loves guitar and being able to teach it to other people. I encourage anyone wanting lessons to seek Zach out. He is an amazingly talented player and has the ability to translate those techniques in a way anyone can understand. Not just a shredder, he can play blues, rock, melodic leads, the list goes on and on. He will open up the fretboard for anyone seeking to improve their playing. I have found he observes the threshold of ability and pushes you just beyond that. He will also make tweaks that seem minor to your technique that pay huge dividends later. As an example, grip during vibrato and bending, pick advice, strumming technique, etc. He is punctual and professional and enjoyable to work with and learn from.

Ive been with Zach for a little under a year now and am starting to feel comfortable enough with my playing to actually start posting videos and signing up for gigs (no musical understanding at all previously). Honestly, if I wouldve had any real time to practice, Zach couldve gotten me to this point in 3 months.What I love about having Zach as a teacher is that he really is on a whole different level than anyone else Ive ever seen. The more I learn from him and on my own about guitar and the world of music in general, the more I realize just how impressive he really is.It gives me a lot of comfort to have a teacher who has the answer to any question I have and the skill to be a role model I will never outgrow. Make no mistake, Zach is an expert on guitar, music theory, chord progression, live performance, etc. Beyond that, I think he is a rocker at heart, but he truly loves all music. Theres nothing you can bring him, country, pop, metal, whatever, that he wont be able to help you learn and make sound great. (He might even surprise you and know every song you name by heart and have some explanation about the meaning and background of it.)People talk about how many hours they have into guitar. How about a lifetime? Thats what Zachs got, and thats why I would never go anywhere else.

I have been playing guitar for the last 18 years or so. I have always learned through tabs or online videos. I am a decent player but have not progressed in my playing in years. I wanted to get out of this rut and learn how to be a better player. I really wanted to learn some theory and how scales apply to playing actual music. We live a fair distance from Omaha and had to search far and wide to find guitar lessons options for our 15 year old son. Ive played guitar by ear all my life and finally decided to get some theory. Within two lessons Zack Adkins had me running pentatonic scales AND arpeggios up and down the neck, but in a way that I could almost instantly use in actual playing. Zack is a great guitar teacher. Im 28 and I grew up playing violin, viola, and piano. Guitar was something Ive always wanted to learn, so I contacted Zack and gave it a try.He is very patient and allows my 4 year old son to attend lessons with me for a very small additional fee, because I was interested in simply exposing him to music.He is very passionate about what he does, and it shows. I would highly recommend him to anyone in the area. It can be a little intimidating starting a new instrument as an adult, but he has taught me that it doesnt matter what age you are. Used to be too prideful to take lessons; thinking that I was seasoned enough. But Zach was able to captivate my passion for guitar by intriguing me with his knowledge. After just a few lessons I can already tell Im more confident at open mic nights and improv sessions due solely to what hes been teaching me theory wise. Lets also not forget that he caters to my personal style of playing and helps me with the fundamental mechanics of how I need to play the guitar to be most efficient and comfortable for how I play. Typically I dread leaving the house, especially during winter, but seeing the progress Im making on guitar has me anxious for each new session. Ive had a guitar for 20 years and never learned to play it. I knew some chords but couldnt piece them together so I would get frustrated and not play for a while then try again only to repeat the cycle. I decided to give lessons a try and found Zach Adkins Guitar & Music lessons and have not been disappointed. In just over five months I have learned quite a few songs. He takes the time to explain things and to break down a song so we learn it in pieces. He will also explain music theory when I have questions on how to know if I should play a basic chord, power chord, or a bar chord. Anyone looking for lessons, look no further then Zach Adkins. Ive played guitar off an on for about 15 years, but am 99% self-taught and had pretty much reached a plateau. Ive taken a lesson or two with teachers before and have been underwhelmed. After only a couple of lessons Im having more fun with the guitar than Ive had in years. Zach has an energy that is infectious and motivating. Im a little nervous to write this review....Because I honestly think Zach is the best guitar instructor in the Omaha area and want to make sure this review does him justice. Having had lessons from different instructors over the course of a few years, I never could quite find the right fit, until I started taking lessons with Zach.Zach makes a conscious effort to be a non traditional guitar teacher; he doesnt want to make the instrument more difficult than it needs to be. Many instructors (including several Ive encountered) tend to make guitar seem needlessly difficult. Its almost like they thrive on the difficulty (theory, repairs, etc) to make sure their students keep coming back. Zach, on the other hand, is able to articulate and teach difficult concepts clearly and without unnecessary confusion. For example, I am very interested in music theory. In one lesson, Zach was able to teach me theoretical concepts that wouldve taken me months to learn and master without his expertise.Furthermore, I dont think theres any guitar teacher that will go out of their way for their students like Zach. Very recently, I told him I was interested in learning a little about guitar repairs (truss rod adjustment, bridge adjustments, string changes, etc.) During one lesson, Zach spent the time to show me how to do general maintenance, like string changes, so I wouldnt have to pay places like Guitar Center to perform regular maintenance. However, there was a hardware problem with my guitar. So, instead of directing to Guitar Center or somewhere similar and having me pay to get it fixed, Zach wanted to make sure that I was taken care of. He took time out of his busy schedule and brought my guitar to an expert guitar technician who was able to fix the problem. I acquired no additional expenses, and now my guitar has a custom set up and plays like a dream.If you are at all curious about learning guitar, you dont have to look any further. Zach is a top-tier teacher who will fully invest in helping develop your talent.

I have been taking guitar lessons with Adam for a couple of months, and I am so thankful that I get to learn from him. Had a brief stint of guitar lessons when I was in high school but after that, the guitar stayed packed away for close to 20 years. Was in the basement, saw the guitar, started playing around and made the decision I wanted to get back into playing instead of sitting on the couch watching TV. I started searching for a guitar teacher that likes similar music to me. Jumped on the internet and saw Zach’s Ibanez Flying Fingers winning entry and was amazed by what I saw and couldn’t believe that he was in Omaha. I started watching his other videos posted on YouTube and knew I wanted to learn from this guy.I’m now close to two months into my lessons and don’t regret it one bit. I’m excited to go to the lesson every week because I learn something new that makes me better each time. Zach is very good at guitar and he undoubtedly has a passion for it as this was evident during my first conversation with him on the phone. I truly believe he wants me to develop into a better guitar player and get me to where I want to be. One of the things I appreciated most was him coming with me to the guitar store to help me pick out a new guitar. As we looked at all the guitars hanging on the walls, he explained to me why the differences in price, bridge style, pickup styles, etc. I picked out a new guitar that day knowing what I was getting.I’d recommend Zach to anyone, young or older. I cannot say enough great things about Zach Adkins Guitar! I honesty thought that I would never be able to play the guitar but I took a chance on it anyway. I reached out to Zach to inquire about taking lessons and not only did he respond to me immediately, he made me feel welcome and more comfortable about taking this plunge. About a week later I had my first lesson with Adam Arispe. I walked in there thinking I would have my four lessons and probably have to walk away and find a new hobby. I mean, the odds were definitely against me, so I thought. Wow was I wrong! First, Adam asked ME what I wanted to do.
