We love our family at Bright Horizons Short Pump. The teachers and leadership team are fantastic. Our children have been at this center for just over 5 years, and they have established lasting relationships with their peers and teachers. They truly feel nurtured at school. The curriculum fosters such creative learning. I feel certain that my oldest daughter is ready for Kindergarten after being at this learning center. Even during a pandemic, we have felt comfortable with our children being at the center. The teachers and leadership team have established thorough screening and cleaning protocols to ensure everyone stays healthy. I also really appreciate the teams transparency with all matters related to COVID. We highly recommend Bright Horizons Short Pump!

Both of my grandchildren have been at Bright Horizons Short Pump since they were infants. The staff have always been very friendly, caring, and responsive to the needs of the children and their families. As a retired early learning specialist I have been impressed with the quality of education offered. Academic activieties are age appropriate and varied. Character education is also stressed. When the sad day comes that my grandchildren graduate from Bright Horizons, they will be well prepared for any private or public kindergarten program. Bright Horizons is a shining jewel in Short Pump.

My name is Debbie Rebuck and I have been employed at Bright Horizons Short Pump for over 8 years. The administration team and all the teachers are very loving and caring to all children and their families. I feel very safe coming to work each and every day with all the safety protocols we have in place.(examples:all staff wear masks, and everyone in the building have their temperatures checked before they can enter the building. We also disinfect the playground after each use and throughout the day we disinfect toys and other high touch areas). This is a wonderful place to have your children enroll and come and learn with us.

My son has been at the center for a few months now. Within a few months my little guy as blossomed and doing so well in his infant program. BH at a Short Pump as been so flexible and walked us every step of the way with questions and guidelines. As a first time mom, I always have questions and BH at SP, has great resources. BH at Short Pump offers a healthy menu with Veggie options which we are so happy about. My son loves his teachers and the entire staff is so friendly and willing to help. The staff takes pictures/videos and sends it on the My Bright Day app, and I can see what my son is doing through out the day. It is so nice to see pictures of his activities while I am at work.Very happy with the quality of care that is offered at BH SP!

GRATEFUL! As a parent, I cannot explain how fortunate I feel to have the opportunity to send my children here, in the care of the most wonderful teachers and staff! I often find myself asking the Director and staff for their opinions and the greatest thing is that I respect their advise, I trust them. Bright Horizons in Short Pump is truly a blessing to my family. And my last thought is that Ms. Diane, the Director, is ALWAYS at the school. Many times directors are ‘floaters’ to multiple locations, not the case here!

I am a former employer of Bright Horizons and I will say that the teachers are a beautiful, hard working and lovely bunch! However the administration and higher up need a lot of work. Especially within themselves as people. They don’t care for their staff whatsoever, there is a huge lack of communication between admin and teachers as well as admin and parents. The director never interacts with her employees other than using BH money to shower them with “gifts” and even redecorate her office instead of using the money towards work on the center. She is cold hearted, rude, and has no regards for others or their feelings. She doesn’t interact with the families or their children. She is very disconnected from all of it because she stays in her office all day or at the front desk not answering phones. No one offers bathroom breaks to the teachers. They get offered a bathroom break MAYBE once in the morning then after that they are left to fend for themselves. When a bathroom break is needed, the front desk phones and the director’s phone goes unanswered... the center as a whole is great but the treatment of their teachers/staff is absolutely disgusting. If you would like your child to attend then I would say go ahead but don’t expect a warm atmosphere from those who run it.

My son has attended Bright Horizons since he began doing drop in days in infants. He just began Kindergarten this September. I attended Back to School night at his school recently where his teacher shared how the year was going to go. It was then that I realized that Joseph was already ahead of the game. Even just having participated in a two day a week program, he is already able to accomplish tasks that other children are just now being introduced to. I give many, many thanks to all of the teachers who have had the opportunity to love and to educate my son. He has truly been prepared for this next step.

Best decision we ever made! Our sons development has thrived since we started a year ago. He is always happy to go to daycare! The teachers and staff are excellent, and the facilities are very clean. It was the only daycare we toured that was so clean and gave off such a happy vibe! Highly recommend!

I am a former employee of Bright Horizons. I was really excited about the opportunity to work with children, but had to resign suddenly due to childcare issues of my own. In my very short time at the center, I had money stolen out of my wallet, as theft was very common, apparently. I was told my another employee to “get over it.” Before I ever started, I had to pay out of my own pocket to have a TB test done, with no reimbursement whatsoever. If you require this as part of new employment, then YOU, the company, need to pay for it. Judging by the turnover rate, I’m glad I got out when I did. The kids were great, but the center was very poorly run.

Working for Bright Horizons Short Pump was literally the worst year of my life! It saddens me to say this because I was extremely excited and on board when offered the position! The turn over rate is horrible, management takes no responsibility for faults, if they take an interest at all. The director lies to the parents with a straight face & the assistant director is verbally disrespectful to staff & doesn’t mind doing it in front of parents at times. The regional manager crunches numbers at the front desk during her visits & takes no time to build relationships with her employees. Bathroom breaks are slim to none and planning time is non existent however you are expected to turn all lesson plans in on time, all documentation boards must be done on time & failure to do so results in disciplinary actions! There is no room for error in the extensively flawed system! Due to the high turn over rate many classrooms were left out of ratio at times. Management makes the employees feel as though they have to walk on eggshells. They use the Education Coordinator as a puppet and throw her in the classroom majority of the day because they don’t have enough teachers to run the center. Getting away from Dark Horizons was the absolute best thing that ever happened to me!

I would encourage you to look past negative post of ex employees. I have three children who have been at Bright Horizons (BH). One now who is a top performer in his Kindergarten class and two still enrolled at BH. In my six years at BH there has been plenty of changes in personnel however there are a few teachers who have been there the entire time my children have been at BH. We feel blessed to have some of the best relationships with teachers, administration, and other parents. The administration and teachers are like a second family. There has been a recent change to administration with Diana taking the lead. Her changes to the center have been positive and we are very happy as a family. We all know how costly childcare is right now. BH is a great investment in the education of your children and that’s how you should think about the monthly payment. I highly recommend BH to anyone lucky enough to enroll!

The administration at this day care is irresponsible, unprofessional, careless, and unsympathetic. Their lack of attention to basic information, like having the correct name, led to one of the most ridiculous and stressful weeks of my life. The fact that they are not concerned with accuracy makes me wonder what other safety measures they are ignoring and just how accountable they are for children’s safety and whether they actually care for the families they are partnered with.My child was scheduled to begin in October in the infant room. I happened to call to see what their thoughts were on whether he would be ready to begin in the toddler room. I was told that his start date was in February. I assured them that was a mistake, “can we call you back?” Once they returned my call I was told that when I “attended curriculum night” (an event I did not attend due to a doctor’s appointment) I asked for my son’s start date to be pushed back. When I told them I was not at curriculum night they once again asked to call me back. The director called me again and said that my last name was on the sign in sheet and that the teachers remember speaking to me about pushing my son’s care date back. At this point I had already told her SEVERAL times that I had not attended curriculum night. She continued to reference the sign in sheet and offered no apology or provided absolutely no options for providing care for my child on his actual start date. Simply, “we have no room for him.”The way the director and her assistant handled this misunderstanding was borderline inhumane and absolutely wasted many peoples’ time and resources. Clearly someone made a mistake somewhere, but the leadership at this center was determined to cover it up. They stuck to the story that someone must have come to the center and impersonated me. They showed no concern for the safety risk that presented (that any adult can walk in and make decisions about babies without first confirming their identity) and no compassion for how stressful and scary it would be for someone to believe there is someone in the community who knows where their child is attending daycare and is impersonating them. The whole ordeal involved contacting Henrico County police for a potential fraud investigation (something the director and her supervisor said “I guess so” when I asked if I should be concerned) and having to reach out to the Vice President of Bright Horizons of this region for them to acknowledge that there was another family who had asked for their son’s care to be pushed back, and that it was in fact not me.I completely understand and can forgive mistakes. What I find absolutely unacceptable is refusing to believe a mother’s word when she assures you that she was not present at an event, showing a complete LACK OF CONCERN for the safety procedures of the center, and the fact that not one member of the staff appologized for the confusion or the total agony of being accused of something and being led to believe that you are being impersonated...not to mention the stress of losing your daycare spot 2 weeks before your child is supposed to start.Unacceptable. Irresponsible. Unkind. There are so many options in the area, surely any of them would be better than this center under its current leadership.
