I moved down to the Richmond area in June 2020 and had heard nothing but great things about MMAI before joining. Now, almost a year later, I have not only gained more knowledge and experience but I have also gained a second family. All the instructors are professional and knowledgeable and the staff goes above and beyond. Whether youre looking to try something new or are an experienced fighter, this is the place for you!

Back in March of 2020, I did a week’s free trial at this MMA gym because it’s was right down the road from my house and I had the privilege of having Rick (the owner) give me an introduction to the different classes they offer. The atmosphere was very welcoming to students of all levels. Then COVID lockdowns hit and I ended up waiting until a few months back to sign up as a member. Since then I have been taking Muay Thai and Kettlebells in the mornings during the week and it’s not only helped my physical fitness/conditioning but also made me more aware of what my mind and body are capable of. Their instructors are dedicated to the craft and truly care to help their students develop into fighters. If you live in the area and are on the fence about a gym, don’t hesitate to join or check it out. Whether you just want to get a good workout or become an experienced/competitive fighter, It’s absolutely worth the time and effort; at a great price too.

Very competitive and learning

This is a great gym. My kids have been training for 2 years plus and they love it. The kids instructors are top notch. The gym and mats are always clean and the overall atmosphere is always pleasant. I started training over a year ago and the experience has been great. The coaches are very knowledgeable and friendly. If you want train to be a fighter or just lose weight this place can help you.

Love this place! Good vibes. We train together not against each other. Meaning we bring the best out of one another. Everyone’s encouraging. Everyone gets along. We truly wanna see everyone reach their full potential. To become the very best they can be. The training itself is legit. The structure and schedule of the classes are well organized and the Martial Arts that are taught are very effective. The instructors are all qualified to teach. Each one is a fighter and has real experience in the competitive scene. They know what they’re talking about! Rick McCoy is by far one of the best MMA instructors on the East Coast and by far the best in Richmond. You want to learn from the best, come to this school. He had taught me so much and I have lost so much weigh from his classes!

Nice pleace

I should have not signed a contract for as long as I did. My contract was $143.10 a month with a down payment as well. I had a change in work as well that made it impossible to attend the limited class. SO I am in a contract which I can not use nor escape from. It is what it is I suppose.With that being said I was impressed with the facility and the instructors. I am just unsatisfied with my situation. If you are looking for some solid training definitely check them out, but be sure to consider the cost of tuition, time it takes to train and commute to and from the facility more carefully than I before signing a contract. Also be sure not to sign a contract when you are entitled to a 30 day evaluation period.

When I first came to MMA Institute I didnt know what to expect. Then I started to meet new people, was surprised at how quick I learned and how impressed I was with the teachers (Kru) . The more time I spent on the mat the closer I became to all my team mates. Now it feels like family.I am a Thai boxer but now have started to work on my grappling and Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. This has become my second home. I have recommended this place to several people and would to anyone.
