The primary benefit I have received from Dongs Karate is confidence in my ability to defend myself. From that flows a general sense of peace that, even if circumstances get difficult, I can defend myself and those I love. This confidence has given optimism and an ability to see the world as a wonderful place.

I’ve been training and taking classes at Dong’s Martial Arts for 6 years now, and I really wish I had started earlier! The experience is like no other; I’ve enjoyed learning how to fight, and more importantly, make me a better person. I have truly grown more confident, disciplined, and determined to reach my goals. I have a lot to thank my fellow instructors and black belts who have taught me all I know so far. I have been training here for 6 months. I have progressed to. Orange belt. I have been lucky to have been training under. Grand Master Dong himself. I have learned many things with The Grand Master. I also have lost over 30 pounds. And have improved my balance and agility. I am moving to Florida and will miss the training I have received. And also everyone I was able to train and spare with. I do plan on continuing my training in Florida. I just hope I will be able to fine a place that measures up to Dongs Karate. Thanks again for everything.

My 12 year old son started taking Taekwondo at Dongs when he was 9. He has high functioning autism and had difficulty with balance , coordination and also with making friends. Taking martial arts at this school has helped him come out of his shell and the instructors are amazing and so caring. I highly recommend Dongs!!!!

We had a birthday party here for our 6 year old, and it was awesome! Master Steven was so good with the kids, who had a blast. They learned some karate and listening skills, and they had a blast going through the different drills and obstacle courses the team set up for them. Super fun way for the kids and adults who watched to spend an afternoon. Highly recommend.

This place is awesome!! My son and daughter has been going here for almost two years now and we are externally please with the school. The teachers here are wonderful. Master Grossmen and instructor Steven are super nice and they are Great teachers. They teach not just Karate skill but manners and respect and self control and much much more. We ❤❤❤ this school.

I have been taking classes here since I was six years old. I am getting my black belt soon and I love being a student at Dongs Karate. I have learned so much physically and mentally.

Dongs karate has good instructors who work hard to teach their students. I have not been to any other schools, but the students at this school seem to really like being there. They work hard and get to have fun some too. I would recommend it for older children, or children who are are self motivated.

My son has been attending Dongs School since he was four years old. He is now eight and getting ready to test for his black belt this fall. I enrolled three years ago after watching my son from the sidelines for about 6 months. I figured if hes having fun, why cant I. Besides it was something we could do together. It was one of the best decisions I ever made. The staff is tireless and very dedicated to working with you - Grandmaster Dong takes a personal interest in every one of his students. He always follows up on any questions or concerns you may have, I dont know of any other Martial Arts school in Richmond that not only has a Grandmaster, but one that is actively involved with his students. Learn how to kick now, so you wont be kicking yourself later.

My boys have been at Dongs for a few years now. I have been nothing but pleased with the growth I have seen from them since karate has been apart of their lives. My oldest son is ADHD/ADD and I can say that his involvement with this school has given him guidelines and discipline to help him reach his goals inside and outside of class.My youngest has developed more self confidence as a result or class. Instructor Mike and Instructor Steven are firm but fair with the students. This school came recommended by a friend and I would recommend it to ANYONE considering putting their child in karate.

My Son started at dongs karate when he was five years old and been going there for the past four years. Ive had the opportunity to train under Grandmaster Dong for 9 years. Ive learned a lot from him. Learning martial arts is not all about punching and kicking but he also teach me how to become a better person.

Both of my children started Tae Kwon Do classes at Dongs when they were 5 yrs old. Within 3 1/2 years they were able to test for their 1st degree black belts. The program at Dongs has been awesome for helping my older son gain confidence, and it has been great for my younger son to learn patience and self control. The instructors are patient but firm. Class is fun but challenging. The program not only focuses on learning karate moves but also on being a good citizen in your family and community, as well as making learning in school a high priority.

As an adult , I was hesitant to join a martial arts class thinking I was too old . This is not the case at all . There are several adults who started at a later age just as I did . The instructors break us up into two groups based on age so the class is more student focused. The instructors are highly knowledgeable and take the time needed to be great teachers , and you can tell that they care about their students. I look forward to going to class even after a long day at work and is one heck of a work out. This is not your typical dojang.

Signed up my daughter a few months back to help with discipline and conditioning. My expectations have been exceeded. So much that I signed up myself. Great staff, and great school.

This is a good program for children. It give them something to work toward and teaches them to better appreciate the parents who bring them to class every week.

THESE FOLKS ARE NOTHING BUT THIEVES. They are in material breach of a contract and refuse to fix the problem other than offering time. This is NOT what was told to me previously verbally. WARNING: Do NOT sign any agreements with them, as they will NOT live up to what they tell you they will do. They have now been overpaid $900. As far as the teaching, they move the kids along too quickly and do NOT keep focus on the basics and refreshers. They only focus on what the kids need to do to earn the next belt.

My sons been going here about 10 months and he loves it they are big on discipline and respect and hes young so they are always moving and doing creative things to keep them busy. Love Instructor Steven and the Master (idk how to spell his name lol) but they are fantastic with the little ones

You are never to Old, starting a work out- path with Dong`s Karate and the expert teaching with Grandmaster Dong and his dedicated Instructors. I started with Dong`s Karate on my 50th birthday and now at age 62 and a 3rd degree black belt at his main headquarter`s, I am still growing stronger mentally and physically. I truly am thankful and grateful for the everlasting experience, of reviewing my old skills and always learning something new with Grandmaster Dong, his Instructor`s- Master Grossman, Mister Steven and many others that step in and help when they are needed and called on. As a Richmonder all my life, I have found that Grandmaster Dong, his Staff and his students, are truly the best friends that I have and they will help you any time before and after class, when needed. Well let me give a positive they helped my child to start liking karate...now on the flip side.. Dont waste your time my child was going here since he was 3years old ( little tigers) when the time came for him to go the big kids class master Stevens kept saying to my husband and I we are watching his behavior.( Which did not make sense to me because this is supposed to be a positive environment for his behavior but instead it was a negative reinforcement ) .. but anyway it did not make any Sense to me because his behavior was good for a 4 year old, and he knew his stuff, ( So why not move him along) So weeks went by and then my husband asked master Stevenson again! So my husband who is also a 2nd degree BLACK BELT did not like the look are the Response that was given to him.. sooooo we take our child to another school (Master chos) and they said he was beyond READY FOR UPPER CLASS soo we enrolled him.. to be honest that was the best decision ever.. THATS ACTUALLY A TOP RANK Taekwondo school(he has learned soo much ) ( he is in the black belt program, and he can attend classes everyday of the week). .. and master chos is always teaching and helping his students out..( which is plus, and he plays around with them to make it fun)more organized, much better across the board..

It was fun being a color belt at this studio. Pretty soon I will become a black belt at your school. It is a very good school. I have learned a lot about Tae Kwon Do and controlled breathing. I have moved through many belts. The school makes me pay attention. I want to impress Grandmaster Dong and the instructors will not let me goof off. They correct me when Im wrong.

I am a student at Dongs karate and I wouldnt want to learn karate anywhere else. At first, I was reluctant to start doing karate but after a couple classes, I came to love this school, the instructors, and the curriculum. This is a great school with instructors who want to help you become the best you can be and achieve your goal. There is a firm but kind way on disciplining children and it helps to teach children self-control and other valuable lessons. The instructors not only teach Tae Kwon Do, but they teach students to be good citizens, respect their parents, elders, and figures of authority, and they teach them to do well in school. Adult black belt classes are even taught by Grand Master Dong himself. They have an affordable payment plan with reasonable prices. All in all, I would recomendad this Dojo to anyone and everyone.

After 17 years if studying at Dongs Karate,I have absolutely no regrets.Before I came to Dongs,my life was bland.When I was 43 years old I started from the beginning. I not only learned physically but mentally and spiritually.The learning was comprehensive and I learned how to really think! Never to old to learn!I never got a mean word from anybody or was treated wrongly.I know of no better school.My life was greatly improved because of Dongs and have seen the positive improvement in so many other students.So I will share what Ive learned with others.Soon, I will get promoted to 5th level black belt and I will keep going until I die(I hope the school goes that long). Dongs Karate is am AWESOME PLACE BOTH the Morehead City,NC school & the Headquarters school in Richmond,VA. I HIGHLY reccommend it to ALL!!!!! The instructors at both schools are the BEST!!!!My grandaughter has been enrolled in the Morehead City,NC branch & she just recieved her Black Belt after 2yrs there. She has come so far & I cna not express how PROUD I am of her & how much we appreicate what the school has done for her confidience.

Impressively, Grandmaster Dong still teaches most of the advanced classes. I was shocked to hear that any school in the area had a grandmaster, let alone one who is so actively involved in teaching and genuinely cares about the quality of his classes. Grandmaster Dongs classes are exceptional and I would recommend them to any martial arts enthusiast in the Richmond area.Dongs Tae Kwon Do school has exceeded my expectations in my first year of training here. I trained in a Tang Soo Do for several years in the past, and the instructors at Dongs were great in getting me up to speed with Tae Kwon Do requirements so that they could recognize my rank at their school.

5 STAR SCHOOL...Grand Master Dong and his Instructors have improved our quality of life. They are dedicated to the students and the community. The school motto Thinking Before Acting is apparent in the schools appearance, teaching methods, its actions, and its success with the students and the surrounding community.I participated this year in a fundraiser that raised almost $30,000 for the Richmond Childrens Hospital and a total of over $300,000 in 15 years of dedication and giving back to the surrounding community. To me; this alone is extraordinary!!As a previous owner, operator, and instructor of a different style of martial arts I was extremely impressed when I relocated to Virginia and happened upon DONGS KARATE SCHOOL. I was looking for many things, But; first and foremost was a school that would help My 14 year old daughter learn a new Way Of Life thru a Martial Arts Discipline. I have found that in Grand Master Dongs philosophy and training. After just six months of training my Child has become a A- student (8th grade) , for the last 4 years she has been at best a C student.... She was struggling to discipline herself to achieve her goals and to accomplish tasks at hand. I, myself struggling with physical disabilities, and also learning a new Karate style (injured 10 years ago) feel stronger and have a more positive outlook on life.The Skills and Abilities that myself and my daughter have achieved in just 6 months have proven to help us both become more successful in every aspect of our daily lives. We have been able to put Grand Masters Philosophies and Teachings into practice in our everyday lives.Being a single parent isnt easy, and raising a child alone without the other parents help,, support or involvement is even harder. But I have an even stronger and unique bond with my child since we share a common goal: to become the best we can be in Pro Tae Kwon Do, Traditional Tai Kwon Do, and Kum Do. It is more then just the kicking and the punching...IT IS THE PHYSICAL, MENTAL, and SPIRITUAL aspects that have brought us closer in the Karate school and in our HOME!!!P.S. Grand Master Dong is a rare breed, the REAL DEAL as I say when it comes to a true Martial Artist. It is an honor to train under such an accomplished man.
