Ive reviewed Bates at the very beginning of having our sons join the gym. Ill do it again. With all the uncertainty with the state of the world right now, Bates premier continued to keep some sort of normality for my son. Coach Chee and Jill pulled it together and never let us feel like they were going away. With Zoom classes and updates for the families they did a fantastic job. I am the grandfather of two boys at the school. I think TKD has done more for them physically, emotionally, socially and in their character developement then any other activity in which they could have participated. I have sat thru hundreds of hours of class and have experienced first hand the excellent instruction they have received as well as the relationship and bond that has occurred between the coach, them and their team mates. In addition, the team gets a record number of medals and trophies at all local and out of state tournaments and took 19 team members to Nationals last year.

It would be extremely tough to find a place driven with as much passion as Bates Premier TKD. The instructors are as selfless as can be and they build relationships that last a lifetime.

Bates Premier Taekowndo & Jiu Jitsu is a fun, family atmosphere. The kids are all respectful and kind to one another. They are taught to become mentors and help teach which I believe encourages great leadership skills and confidence. They are the only competitive school in New Mexico. My boys and I both attend this gym. The little Braves class is GREAT! My 3yr old went from barely being able to sit still for 2 mins to being able to focus for 30 mins. My 11yr old was a little overweight and Coach Chee was able to get him back on track! My son is focused and healthy. Being the busy mom that I am, coach Chee and his staff helps by picking up afterschool and ensuring my kiddo has a safe place to be. Ive had the pleasure to be friends with Jessie for a few years now and see how much she has grown from her victories, defeats, and bouncing back from injuries. Obviously her skill set is world class; however, there is far more to her than just a fighter with exceptional technique and a competitive nose for gold. I like to evaluate gyms, Dojangs, dojos, MMA spots, and cross training gyms not just on credentials of the coach but who they are as a person. Youll always be able to find world class credentials, but not another Jessie Bates. She exudes passion, leadership, and love for the art making everyone around her better. She has a unique positive energy for her students that is unmatched coupled with an acumen to accommodate for each students strength and weakness. As a competitive athlete for many years and a former Division 1 wrestler for Penn State, I find her coaching and business refreshing. Bates Premier Taekwondo (BPT) is THE premier dojang in NM. We were introduced to the Bates when Chee was running the competition team at another school. When they decided to open their own school it was a no-brainer to follow them. BPT provides a world class level of instruction to all of their students – regardless if they’re a beginner student just taking belt classes or if they’re a national level athlete on their competition team. At our old school my son was terrible at sparring (I can say that, I’m his mom). In 7 months, Chee transformed my son from the kid that was being run off the back of the mat to a silver medalist at the National Championships. A year later my son became the National Champion.
