This is a great small private school. You wont find the Common Core here or a one size fits all education. My child is receiving a more relevant education than she did in public school and feels much more comfortable and confident. The staff is caring, competent and invested in the success of each student.

Middle school is always hard, but by the end of 6th grade my daughter was so unhappy with the chaos and mean girl culture that we decided to make a change. The Maven Academy has provided the alternative we were seeking. It is a supportive, calm and positive environment with a one-room schoolhouse vibe. Cell phones are collected at the start of each day so that kids will focus on their schoolwork, not their instagram feed. My daughter feels safe, appreciated and respected by her teachers and her peers. The 3-day school week requires a self-disciplined approach to homework but provides great opportunity to explore other interests outside of school. The education here is what you make of it - the teachers give you the tools you need to be successful, but it is up to you to do the work. If you are considering Maven, you should stop by for a shadow day to check it out. Because of the Maven Academy, my daughter finally likes school again - and that has made all the difference in our family.

This is our third year here and it’s been a perfect fit for us. Getting the core classes at the school and homeschooling electives has been a great way to manage our time and interests. The dual enrollment program offered at AACC has put our child on track to graduate early. There has been some rotation of teachers but we are very pleased this year. This is a school best suited for students who need some structure but can also work independently.

If you have a child who is struggling with serious mental health issues, this school is not for them. My child delt with bullying on her first day, she knew she wasnt welcomed, in the schools defense the person who showed ill feelings toward my daughter had known her before she enrolled there, although she didnt expect any of this to happen. When she went to the administration about it, Mrs. Vogel, the head of the school told her several times it was drama but didnt stop it. My daughter had delt with bullying before and she thought shed be safe here. My daughter missed several days of school because she was so emotionally exhausted, after going to Vogel several times she didnt do anything. She was even too scared to tell the Administration that drugs were being used by students on school property because she didnt think they would believe her. On a good note she told me that she felt comfortable talking to Mrs. Stella and Mrs. Nordstrom, two very kind women who helped make plans and talk to her about her academics. We never heard any positivity come from Mrs. Vogel when it came to our daughter. After the student who bullied my daughter left she had hope to return and do what she needed to do, but she would still sometimes struggle with her mental health, when she explained it to adminstration only half of them understood and let her confide in them. Mrs. Vogel made the decision to expell my daughter due to absenses (If you have a child suffering from severe depression you know this a normal and difficult thing to deal with). Meanwhile she let the student who bullied my daughter and brought drugs into the school graduate. We even had rumors going around that apparently the students family paid extra (or as we like to call it a bribe) for her to graduate. My daughter reached out to this school for help and understanding and got the opposite, which is incredibly heartbreaking. If you have the perfect student I would still suggest you put your money and their talents to a school that would appreciate them.
