I just started school here and by far it has been such a great experience. The teaching staff down to learning leaders are simply amazing. Anything you want to learn, they will teach you. The only way you can honestly walk out of this untrained is if you are unwilling to learn and you don’t apply yourself. One teacher in particular I have to talk about is Ms. Shannon Richards. So kind, firm and will bring out the best in you. She truly is an extraordinary master stylist. Can’t wait to continue my journey because the new students coming in are so talented

Terrible, Terrible, terrible. Accreditation is in question here. Always losing staff, no structure. Graduation rate is terrible and from my personal experience I see why. Never answer the phone. Communication is terrible. Financial aid is terrible. The little teachers they do have picks and chooses who they want to teach. They make up their own rules. I hate it, I have half of my credits but I have to start over elsewhere because they lose track of thing and come up with their own theory as to why things are going a certain way. A waste, and most of all I LEARNED….NOTHING!

If I could give this school no stars I would. We wasted our money sending our daughter here. There are never enough instructors. There is no guidance when the students are taking clients. I have begged for our money back with no success. Save your money and go to Toni and Guy or Aveda. Horrible school. A waste of our daughters time and our $20,000.00. And the 5 star reviews are posted by staff there... not students. So unprofessional.

While being serviced.. 1.) Administrators were interrupting my stylist while doing my hair, because she was drinking her water. YET they walked around with no mask. 2.) Administration was in groups gossiping while i was being serviced about students, other staff, and clientele. 3.) I also overheard a conversation of how two Instructors were missing. Very unprofessional right? To conclude, they did not allow my stylist to finish my hair, which was only supposed to be hobby pinned. Not sewed in or glued. YET IT WAS ANOTHER STUDENT DOING WEAVE earlier that day, in the beginning of my appointment. I will be contacting others to report this issue on this location immediately.

I got my hair straightened and it was all the way down my back. I asked for a one inch hair cut, and I left with a bob. Some lady with short hair told the student how much to cut off, and I’m still trying to grow my hair back to the length it was. This isn’t a “horrible” place to go to, but I wouldn’t get my hair cut here if I were you.

My overall experience could have been better... I think with COVID interrupting the school and everything is why my experience was not great... the entire time attending Paul Mitchell I was eager to take clients and I didn’t get to experience that at the school due to the school decision to not take clients due to COVID.I also didn’t get to experience a lot of other things but in turn we had to take distance learning classes online and that is not what I paid for....I am not a online learner , I needed more hands on and didn’t get it. I paid 17000 out of pocket to this school and they didn’t even ask to discount or anything. They still wanted their 1400 $ payment from me each month no exception. I graduated end of feb and it’s June now and I’m finally done paying Paul Mitchell off. I don’t think this was good business practices for Paul Mitchell at all. I don’t think the pandemic was nobody’s fault either. But I do believe they could have comprised on the price of attending due to the pandemic and the change of services rendered.

I only get my hair washed and flat iron. I’m too afraid to get anything else because of past experiences. 70% of the time it doesn’t look great but it’s acceptable when I don’t feel like washing my hair and would rather them do it. The biggest issue I have is I always have a 12:30 appointment and they never see me until close to 1:00. I’ve asked countless times can I just have a 1:00 appointment and they always deny me saying they don’t do 1:00 appointments. If I’m not going to be seen until 1, why not give me a 1:00 appointment?!

Pro:Im a student currently attending Paul Mitchell the School in Atlanta. First and foremost I want to say that the school has improved dramatically since when I first initially started. We have more learning leaders on the floor with us now. I feel like they truly do care whether we are learning something daily. This school is more hands on versus other schools that are more class oriented. I feel like that is actually better for students coming into the industry. I am graduating in a few months, so Im actually really excited to see how far I can go with my new skillset. I love the kit that we received once we started core. Core & theory class are the best two classes to be in, just my opinion. The energy is much happier and Dallas personality is just awesome.Cons:However, I only rated this school a 3 star as they still have some things to improve on. One thing that is just terrible at this school and has actually gotten worse recently is the updating of the students hours in the system. So they have this rule that if your hours are messed up or if you forget to clock in you must fill out a time sheet and put it in Mr. Bryce bin next to his door. Thats fine and all however for the last two or three months he has been extremely behind on updating hours. And when I say actually behind I dont mean a day, two or three, we are talking about weeks or more. I literally had to wait three weeks one time for him to update all the hours in the system meanwhile the hours for other students just kept getting backed up more and more. Before we took our Christmas break all the hours were supposed to be updated the last day before school closed. Yeah, I honestly think he was so far behind that he just took all of the hours and threw them in the trash because he would of had to stay there the entire day and night on a Saturday to get them done. When you say something to him about updating the hours he will either just blow us off and say he is too busy or he will take the hours out of the bin by his door and just put them on his desk for another week to make it look like he is actually updating them. Its really pointless at this point when it comes to approaching him about the situation. I find this very stressful as we all are waiting on return checks weekly, people are trying out for phase two, and we have people graduating soon. All of this requires hours to be updated in a timely manner and Mr. Bryce is definitely not good at the micro managing and administrative side of the position. Dont get me wrong his personality is great, funny guy and great stylist. He actually would be a better fit for working on the floor with students rather than administrative responsibilities. The school either needs to help him out or find someone that can actually handle the scope of the job. The second thing I noticed, Monday, Wednesdays and Friday is over flowing with students to the point were we dont even have enough stations to work at. We are literally sharing stations on the floor as the school is at its mass capacity for those days. They may want to think about adding more stations to the very back of the school as they still have some space back there that is basically open. Other than that, I think the school overall is a success and is going in the right direction.

Hello, I am currently a student at PMTSATL, and honestly I started to leave an anonymous review after hearing that students were being pulled into the office and asked to delete/ revise their honest reviews and opinions. Especially since I normally don’t take time to write reviews, It was disheartening and discouraging to say the least. The solution to the student concerns should not be to silence them, but to find out where we can all do and be better as a team. Upon starting at Paul Mitchell I was beyond excited, having done thorough research, and knowing several Paul Mitchell Alum that raved about the overall experience. The excitement was soon replaced with disbelief the more the program continues the less anyone seems to know, staff and students included. The structure, organization, overall morale, and attendance of students and teachers are all down hill. No one seems to actually want to be there, students are being viewed as lazy, but I would view it as unmotivated. The school seems to be becoming over crowded with new enrolls, every day while not nearly enough stations or product to properly practice procedures for existing students. This is part of the reason students are running from taking clients. They are not confident in their training. While I do understand that cosmetology does require a certain amount of self study, let’s be real, no one is paying $20,000 to teach themselves. Practice does not make perfect if you are practicing the wrong things. I am definitely a team player and am open to positive solutions to better the situation for the current and future students. I agree with all the future professionals who previously expressed their concerns, and as a student I would like to see more positivity, structure, and to get the chance to experience the Amazing Paul Mitchell atmosphere that I’ve heard so much about and paying so much for.

Essentially the school stole $100 from me for an application fee and never got back in touch. I tried a few times to contact them about starting school, and they always seemed like they didnt understand my questions or care enough to answer me. After talking to financial aid, I was told that I could apply to the school and be accepted, but put off my start date until I got a scholarship to help pay for classes. Everyone I spoke to after making that decision, made it seem like I was being difficult. They made me choose a start date, I chose August 4th.... today is August 2nd. Nobody has contacted me since I chose that day. I paid $100 application fee on that day as well. I contacted them since then, asking if there was anything else I needed to do, and they didnt have an answer. They havent said anything since then. Theyre rude. In the beginning I met with Za at the school for a tour and to talk to financial aid. Financial aid was in a meeting at the time, so I had to reschedule. I was annoyed that I drove 45 minutes only to find out that they scheduled my appointment at a bad time. A few days later Za called me asking questions I would have only been able to answer after talking to financial aid... she was upset that I didnt have answers and hung up in my face. Since that day everybody I dealt with from this school was unprofessional and rude. They seem very unorganized and eager to blame their problems on future students like myself. I wanted to attend this school because Paul Mitchell is a respected name in the industry. The staff here dont live up to that name.

I am currently a Student in the Night Program. Everything has went downhill after Core. When I first started school I was excited, eager to learn, I even showed up at 4:20pm every day when class starts at 5:00pm. Once our class advanced and we’re able to go on the floor and start taking clients, I soon realized how unorganized the night program was. The “staff” are messy and are so consumed in drama that they aren’t around when we need help. You’re lucky if you have someone around to help you. They’re usually somewhere hiding talking on their phones. Or talking to other “Learning Leaders” about the other students. I confided in another “Learning Leader” only to have another staff member bring up my personal business when I never told her in the first place. We have no supplies. No space. Sinks flooding. I’ve had to share a station with a classmate several times. The trash cans are overflowing, students leave hair from their mannequins or clients on the floor, dirty tampons and pee are left on the bathroom floor. We even ran out of detergent for the towels and a “Learning Leader” advised the student to wash them with shampoo or dish soap. We are asked to clock out when we refuse to take clients because we don’t learn anything resulting in us not prepared to service clients. I’ve become unmotivated to come to class every day. My tools are falling apart and no one seems to care no matter how many times I bring the issue up. The staff just tells me to use my own money to purchase new ones. I wish I could attach photos. Paul Mitchell Atlanta is the worst school and I honestly wish I had chosen wiser. Please save your $20,000.

Paul Mitchell cancel their distance learning so all the students have to come back inside the building for school. Since they open the school back two students have tested positive for covid putting everybody in harms way since July, now it’s August another student have tested positive. I don’t understand how they check our temperature before we enter the school everyday but allowed students who have covid into the school.I don’t know if the students had covid before they returned back to school or did the students get it from being in the school. That I don’t know because the school isn’t giving us any information. You would think since we’re risking our health they would be honest on what’s going on. I done seen instructors and students coughing and sneezing. We suppose to be 6 feet away from each other’s but students be in each other personal space as well as the instructors be in each other’s space. Paul Mitchell School of Atlanta is putting all their students in danger and not taking covid as serious as they should. Just being real everybody inside of the building might just have covid at this point !!!!

Quite unhappy with my recent experience here. I have been going to this school for my haircuts for a number of years because I love to support the students and school, but the advanced Phase 2 student who last cut my hair was careless in every way possible. In all my 27 years of receiving hair cuts, I have never once started with wet hair from a wash but had bone dry hair by the end of my cut. How can you ensure a quality cut with that kind of practice? Especially if you have hair like mine, which is naturally wavy/frizzy; you should be using a spray bottle to maintain the wetness through and through until the cut is complete. To add insult to injury, she was sitting down the whole time she was cutting my hair. Again, never seen this before EVER. But, the worst of my experience is the crooked, ugly, thick front bangs I ended up with that I did NOT ask for. This was the result of their dire attempt to fix the botched job the student did on a simple swoop/face framing long bangs I had asked for. Not to mention, the bangs have been pulled from halfway back on my head, so a considerable amount of my hair is now extremely short. Furthermore, their only policy to rectify is to provide a re-do service up to two weeks after the original date of service. Why would I cut my already short hair within two weeks? Deeply disappointed in how my experience was handled at every level at this school.

I first would like to congratulate all former alumni who was fortunate to have graduated from this amazing institution as I did some years ago. This school taught me a lot about not only cosmetology, but also about life. I was fortunate and honored to meet a well-qualified staff of people who gave me what was needed for me to seek and secure gainful employment. I understand that there are some challenges happening currently with the school and it’s staff, however, think about it, what has one contributed to their experience? If a person can’t or won’t respect the rights a school has to modify their policies at any time, then are you ready for the real world?I love and respect the staff of this school because contrary to the belief of some, they really do care. And the connections they have in the business could possibly be an amazing future for you as it has been for me. I’m appalled at the remarks and the behavior of professionals and future professionals who feel as though what they feel and how they feel as an individual should speak for the masses. Please remember, not everyone shares your pain; some actually are enjoying their experience, at least the people I’ve interviewed for positions in my salons.I find that each and every school I’ve spoken at or have done guest artistry work at, has their issues and challenges, but PMTSA has always been viewed by professionals in the Atlanta market as one of the best institutions of learning in the field of cosmetology in the Georgia market. I never thought that the educators their received what they were really worth, but they still gave with humility and love. I highly recommend to all who may read my review, and are considering PMTSA from a student perspective or to have services in the clinic area, please know that the majority rules in any situation, so if the toxicity out numbers the degree of positivity, then you’ll always find challenges in securing an amazing experience.

I have “trusted the process” and stuck it out as long as I possibly can considering I graduate in December but I’m sick of it and almost positive this facility could be shut down based on lack of education and structure. It is a chaotic environment all around and rarely ever any hands on classes. Students teach themselves and you are lucky to have an instructors attention for more than 5 minutes at a time to assist you. I chose this school solumely because the 3 day schedule aligned with my work schedule and if you are in a similar situation please just go ahead and quit your job or change your schedule there because this school is not worth your time if you genuinely love to do hair the way I do and want to do it as a career. I left work at 10:45 and arrived for my appointment at 11:30 and did not leave until 4. As the Master stylist instructed another student to come over to assist her (the student) to assist with the iron work of my hair. ☹️ I was very polite to the both of them, but I was burning up inside. This place is amazing! Its basically a massive salon with wonderful prices. A haircut for $15, that includes a shampoo, and blowdry... Im in! They also offer services such as keratin treatment and coloring. Basically, this is a salon for the students to get some practice before they go off into the real world. You can choose from 2 levels of students, the higher level is about $5 more and they have more experience. I really enjoy it because these students are excited about being there and learning. They really care to make you happy and get everything right. That being said, there are times where they might not do exactly what you want, but its not due to a lack of effort. I have been there 4 times, I have always received great cuts and 3/4 times I was blown away with their styling. The whole process for a haircut or even a trim takes about 2-3 hours, so make sure you dont have anything scheduled for the day. You cant put tips on your card, so make sure you bring some extra cash to tip with. I would definitely recommend this place. Just make sure to keep and open mind and be a little patient, and you will be very impressed. If youre extremely high-maintenance then this may not be the best for you.

Karla, who was the lead of the design team, contacted me and assured me that the students would volunteer for hair and makeup for the event. We remained in communication via phone, text, and email. The MORNING OF the event, I called Karla and she rudely told me that they were no longer going to volunteer for the event. She didnt give me an explanation and she lied and said that she wasnt able to reach me. She also stated that if I had a problem with it that I needed to contact the supervisors at the school and that was it. My participants were left with no hair or makeup for the fashion show and because of this, many of the models that were participating decided not to any more. I will NEVER say single positive word to anyone about Paul Mitchell the School. I am no longer a supporter. Prior to this, Id even done an initial consultation to become a student there. Again, I was refused service and told to sit down and wait indefinitely to be helped...!!!

(Review from Former Core Teacher) After reading these reviews from the Future Professionals at Paul Mitchell the School Atlanta, I must admit that every review that these students posted about their experiences are TRUE and VALID complaints. I am not surprised that they disregarded their grievances and ask them to remove their reviews from Google. I reported a grievance that was also ignored and dismissed regarding the Education Leader, Sheri Loeffler and Director Tiffany Ferrill. I was forced to resign because how they treat their Students and new Employees, lack of support, lack of communication and not having necassary supplies and training to teach. I was paying for some of the supplies out of my own pocket until I realized that I wasnt getting paid enough to continue to do so. I became so frustrated and overwhelmed that it landed me in the hospital. I witnessed on numerous occasions how the some of the Staff would discourage, talk down to, ignore and neglect students, instead of inspiring and teaching. I was a student back in 2010-2011 and its gotten worst during my employment as a Teacher. I cant even count on both hands how many calls, texts and messages that Ive been getting from the students venting about how worst it has gotten since I resigned. It breaks my heart to read these reviews but I must take a stand with the students to show my support and validate their concerns. I visited the school today to find that the students are still not happy and losing the passion & desire to continue their careers. The Staff runs the school as if it were a prison or jail. The smiles and joy of learning has disappeared and everyone looks very unhappy but cant leave because they have a student loan debt to pay back and cant. They are told by Staff that they can clock out and find another school or deal with it. Period. These students pay nearly $20,000 for Paul Mitchell Master Cosmetology Training and this is what they get for their money.$0-Lack of Training & Support$0-Bullying and Discrimination$0-No Training after Core$0-No Job Placement after graduation$0-Lack of Hands On Practice with Real Guests instead of Mannequins$0-No Grievance Policy Enforced$0-Underpaid & Untrained Teachers to support the education process$0- Understaffed with Poor Teacher to Student Ratio. Hundreds of students but not enough Motivated and Skilled Teachers.$0- Unprofessional and Rude Behavior from Front Desk Manager$0- Unprofessional Behavior from StaffNow, add it all up! $0! Unless your Lucky, Thats what a Future Professional get for $20K at Paul Mitchell the School-Atlanta. Disappointing and a Complete Ripoff.(Personal Message from a Student)Well, if you weren’t accepted in a place that you were trying to create good energy, then it wasn’t for you anyways. You clearly started a movement with your core class. We know how we’re supposed to be treated as students and we know what a healthy, supportive learning environment is because of you. We won’t settle for anything less from them. Thank you.#PostUnmuted #ReviewUnmuted #PMTSAtlComplaints #Getyourmoneysworth

I have been here 3 times for highlights and a cut every time, and I have always had a good experience. This last time, I probably got one of the best cut and colors that I have ever had:) The one downside is that it takes quite a long time--bring a coffee, some magazines and maybe a laptop, because for full highlights, a cut and style, it takes about 5 hours!

Ive been to PM a few times over the last 5 years. Its like tequila. Or a cheap buffet. Every time I go, I remember why I vowed to never go back!Painfully slow haircuts (literally 2 hours for a straight bob). Poor communication with the clients. (The students go confer with their instructors in private over your hair color. Should be a 3 way convo.)A light and tentative application of color (another 2 hours) that came out looking NO DIFFERENT than when I walked in.The 2 hour cut is a fantastic cut. The color was a total waste of money. $60 for cut and color is not such a discount that its worth your time and patience.THINK LONG AND HARD BEFORE YOU COMMIT.

I have been to this location 3 times for various different things; haircut, color, trim, etc. Each time I have been I have disliked it more and more. Other than the cheap haircuts, there is not much going for this location. Yes some stylists are friendly but others are more interested in chatting with their neighbor than making sure your haircut is going properly.I went in today for a simple trim and style, three hours later I left extremely upset. The stylist, a Phase 2 girl nearly at the end of her training, decided to completely ignore my picture and proceeded to do what she wanted. I left with several inches taken off and my hair style the complete opposite of what I wanted. I have been trying to grow my hair out for months and in a matter of minutes, she took away any progress. I will never ever go back. Although the prices may be tempting, do yourself a favor and skip the disappointment.

A friend recommended this place to me, I stopped by for a pedicure. Worst pedicure of my life not worth $15 she literally just painted my nails like I could of myself at home. She did not seem like she wanted to be there and it was obvious she had no training on how to do a proper pedicure even though she had a book right in front of her. She took off my polish, filed each nail for less than a second each, pushed back my cuticals and got to painting. No clip, no lotion, no massage, no cutical cutting, there are no color option besides 9 or the same shade of red. I wouldnt recommend getting your nails done here. I would of been open to trying a hair cut here but it seemed like they do not get much experience with white hair so Id be very nervous. Ill stick with going to Paul Mitchell School for my hair needs and spend the $25 for a real professional pedicure.

I use to go all the time but they raised the price tremendously for only a wash and flat iron. I get a semi-good result probably about once every ten times I would go here. But it was inexpensive plus I like the products. Now the less than mediocre results, are not worth the price.

While I love my student who cuts my hair this COMPLAINT is completely about the lady they have working at the front desk. Getting an appointment here is a nightmare simply because she does everything BUT answer calls. I tried all week to set a appointment for a hair cut and every time I’m left on hold for more than 20 minutes. This has happened to me more than once where after being frustrated with not EVER getting thru I’ve driven more than 45 minutes to walk and am turned away because as she says “we are booked” and gives this extremely condescending “I’m sorry” no if you were truly sorry you would do the job they pay you to do. I’ve sat at the front desk waiting on the few occasions I can get thru and watched this woman do EVERYTHING but answer the phone or she will put people on hold to have a conversation that is NOT work related. This school is never busy so it is unacceptable for a client to never be able to call in for appointments and have to waste gas and time front more than 45 minutes just to be turned away when this could easily be prevented. While the service is great my experience and impression of this school is very tainted by this lazy incompetent individual. Once my professional graduates I WILL NO LONGER PATRONIZE THIS SCHOOL AGAIN..... if I could give it no stars I would.

I have a lot of mixed feelings. Make no mistake, my stylist was wonderful, but I think I wouldve been better off not going here. Drawn in by the low price, I bought a Groupon specifically for an ombre and cut. I showed the stylist pictures of what I wanted and he came up with a plan that sounded exactly right- then, his teachers came by and told him it was too ambitious and basically suggested to just give me highlights. I tried to break in and tell them that I wanted an ombre and not highlights, and I thought my concerns were being heard, but I walked out of there with highlights. It doesnt look awful, but its not what I wanted at all, and thats kind of a huge deal. Furthermore, all of this took FIVE hours. They let me know it might be a little longer than average, and I totally get that...but to sit in a chair starving, bored and tired for five hours and come out without what you even wanted is honestly pretty awful. I definitely cried on the way home. Again, the stylist I had was wonderful. I think he knew what I wanted, and he wanted to do it, and I feel like the teachers really messed it all up and held him back. Im sure hell be an awesome stylist one day and Id totally go to him as a client when his teachers arent there holding him back. I am the most laid-back, passive person imaginable but by the end of the entire DAY spent in that chair I was really starting to lose my patience and was on the verge of tears. As soon as it was over, I hightailed it, so I didnt really get to voice that it wasnt what I wanted to the teachers. The cut came out great, but yeah, just a bad experience overall for me. :(

THEY ARENT ACCOMMODATING.....I didn’t have an appointment but I looked on their website last night and it says they open at 8 am. Google says they open at 8:30. I went according to their website and got there at 7:50.early enough to hopefully get in even if I had to sit n wait for a couple of minutes. I asked one of the students outside what time they opened and she said 7. So I’m thinking omg I could’ve gotten here an hour early but that’s ok. I’m still pretty early. I should be out before 12. All I needed was a wash blow dry and flat iron. I go inside and I’m sitting there for 10 mins waiting for someone at the front desk to help me bcuz they were all in the break room laughing and having a good time. Then when the ladies come out they ask me if I had been helped yet. I said no but I would like to get my hair done. The lady tells me oh we have no one who can take you. MIND YOU THEY OPEN AT 7 AND THERE ARE STUDENTS JUST SITTING DOING ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.!!!! Then she says if u want to wait and see if No one shows up you can so I said well when is the next appointment time she said 9 o’clock. So I said y’all want me to wait an hour just to see if someone doesn’t show up for their appointment. NO.! I will not sit here while ur students do nothing for 2 hours and then on top of all of that told me they’re getting new menus and new pricing I said well how much for what I need (wash, blow dry, flat iron) and she said $25-$35. First of all, you’re a school.! Stop trying to be a professional salon. Second I wouldn’t have minded paying the money if I didn’t have to sit there for an hour JUST TO SEE IF NO ONE SHOWS UP.! No thank you. I will not be back.

They deleted my original review. It explained that my hair care was provided by a student who was about to graduate and was grossly unproffessional. Her instructor told me she did a great job knowing she cut about a foot too much hair because she was too distracted singing and telling personal anecdotes. Not worth the money. Save yourself the trouble of awkward long bad haircuts

I have been coming here ever since it opened, but this last visit was my last. I got my roots done, lots of regrowth, lightest blonde. I was there for several hours, which I knew was the drill. They split my head in half and 2 students, who did NOT do the same exact thing to both sides. They left the bleach on WAY too long and I definitely lost more hair on the right side. I dont know how much hair came out in the sink but due to her overly ginger washing, Im guessing a lot. She blow dried me with heat and pulling. My chair was not faced toward the mirror so I didnt see how much hair was coming out. I lost about 20-25% of my hairs thickness. Large hair clips no longer work, I use baby hair ties now. My helmet fits differently. My friends say you can’t tell, but I know and I’m pissed. When I was asking the instructor about it, all she did was kept pulling hair out and saying I dont know what to tell you, while 10 people watched me. MORTIFIED. After I paid $75, the student asked if she could take pics. Wasn’t feelin it. I did not tip her, which even despite the situation, isnt my style and I feel bad about that. I just had to get out of there.I rewashed my hair when I got home as there was still some bleach left in. Pulled hair out all night. Next day was better. The color came out soooo light, which is great but I’d rather have a full head of yellow than burn it off to get platinum. Hindsight.I guess this was a personal lesson. I could have paid the same-ish at a professional salon and walked out with a full head of hair. Shame on me.
