Campbell was an absolute dream to work with! Oracle hosted a leadership event at Coopers BBQ, and we hired Campbell for a 45 minute group lesson. She was wonderful!! Not only was she knowledgeable, but she managed to get most, if not all, of our 40 guests/leaders country dancing (which was quite a sight to see). She made the whole process a seamless experience, and I cant recommend her enough, especially for corporate events!

My husband and I worked with Campbell for our first dance for our wedding. It was about 2.5 minutes and a medley of three upbeat, fast songs. We sent her the music in advance, and when we arrived for our first lesson, Campbell had already given it thought as to what options we had and gave us a few choices of dance style before diving into steps. We had little experience prior to our first lesson, and in five lessons, we left so amazed at the progress we made with Campbells teaching. Her teaching style is so fun, really patient and encouraging, and she truly cares about teaching the most she can in the time she has. We loved working with Campbell, and if you live in Austin, consider yourself so lucky to have her in the area! We now moved to SF and are hoping to find someone like Campbell so we can keep up our dancing.

Campbell was super nice and fun . She explained how to do certain moves in a way that a lay person could understand. You dont have to be an expert dancer to learn from her and to understand her. She is not high pressure or intimidating in any way. She helped my daughter and me learn a dance for my daughters wedding. She was creative and easy to be around. Her studio is a very comfortable place to dance. I recommend her highly and would take lessons from her again.

Ive known Campbell for a few years and she never ceases to leave me awestruck. In the dance world, there are good dancers and there are good teachers, but rarely do you find a perfect combination of the two. Campbell is just that. She isnt verbose, but finds precise analogies that make everything click. Not only is Campbell incredibly perceptive, but she caters her teaching style to your learning style. Above all, shes a firm believer in show, dont tell. You can expect her to avoid lectures and drill practice -- something that is a rarity in the dance world. On a personal note, its important to note that Campbell is patient, caring, and empathetic. She teaches dance manners and good partnership. In her house, she hangs a sign that says We dont make mistakes, we do variations. Expect to be amazed by Campbells experience, but theres no need to be intimidated. Campbell just wants to make the dance world a better place by changing her students lives every day.

Worked with Campbell for a first dance with my wife at our wedding. Went in with no partner dancing experience. On the very first lesson, Campbell had us doing a basic box step and a turn to a song we had pre-chosen. Throughout our lessons, Campbell was very enthusiastic, kept incorporating new elements without being overly complicated, and kept us feeling great about our progress. I felt very confident by the day of the wedding and many guests were surprised by our dancing abilities. Campbell is not just one of the best dancing instructors, she is one of the best teachers. I worked with Campbell for about 2 years. I was a student in her class at UT as well as a class assistant alongside her for a year and a half. Ive had experiences with Campbell teaching audiences of over 100 dancers as well as been one-on-one with her. This woman is not only an incredible dancer but I believe her teaching skills outperform any Ive experienced in my 18 years of taking dance lessons. Campbell is extremely knowledgeable and kind. Her years of experience have made her capable of teaching people at all levels. I have seen her make confident, skilled dancers out of people who have never stepped on the dance floor in their life.Campbells story is an inspiring one. She is a fabulous teacher, mentor, and friend. I would recommend anyone and everyone looking to improve on their dancing (or even just brewing an interest in dance) to seek out Campbell Miller!

My mom bought my husband and I two private dance lessons for a Christmas present and it was amazing! We both knew we wanted to learn to dance, but thought we might not ever be good enough to feel comfortable doing it in public. Campbell taught us some amazing basics (we came into it literally know nothing about swing dancing). After two private dance lessons, we definitely feel like we have some solid moves to take onto the dance floor. Campbell was very sweet and patient, and gave great instructions.

Learning to dance with Campbell has been a wonderful experience. Having had some earlier negative blues dance instruction I was surprised and pleased with the way Campbell approached this style of dance. Not only did I learned the steps but also how to be creative as a follow and how to hold my own space. I liked the different approach to Blues, incorporating Lindy-hop, west coast swing and even the waltz to make a more interesting dance. The way Campbell teaches encourages each dancer to find the best way to dance for themselves, teaching the steps is one thing teaching us how to move our own unique bodies is another. I would recommend any style of dance she teaches and look forward to more instruction when she is back in town.

Campbell has a unique ability to conceptualize the complex and simply transform it into a substantive and easily digested order – in other words “Now I can DANCE!!” – AND, it’s fun!! Her videos are clear and concise, and the results are virtually immediate. From there it only gets better. The moves in the routines are designed to either stand alone or blend with each other, like a special kind of puzzle – no matter how you put the pieces together, it always comes out right. The emphasis is weighted on personal creativity and confidence building. She will provide the tools and the “starter kit”, and then offer you the opportunity to put your own personal spin on it whenever you feel ready. I’m continually replaying the videos and each time I discover some nuance that either I missed or wasn’t yet ready to learn. If you’re tired of sitting on the sidelines and watching and wishing while others are on the dance floor having fun, then it’s time to “Connect with Campbell”, in person or by video.Becca’s Dad

I walked into Campbell’s social dance class two years ago without having any prior dance experience, social or otherwise. I never really thought that I was or could be a dancer, but after a few minutes in the class, she had us all laughing and dancing along together to a mixer. In each class, Campbell did three things that in my eyes made her an exceptional teacher. First, she has a knack for breaking down movement in a way that we all could understand, even those of us without any background knowledge. She had us saying the rhythm aloud for those who couldn’t hear the beat, she could simplify movement in a way that everything became a series of steps, and she explained style through her own movements and through descriptors.Second, she is very knowledgeable. She knows the dances that she instructs inside out, and she can answer any questions you may have about leading and following, break down a certain move, or show you variation on that move if you’re curious to learn more. If you ask her about the origins of a certain dance or the style or the spirit with which it is danced, she can tell you everything from where the dance came from, how it has evolved over the years, and the different scenes of social dance in different cities across the world. In sum, she knows a lot about dance and she knows how to communicate her knowledge. And third, she cares. She cares deeply about dancing and wants others to see and experience the beauty of social dance. This permeates through in everything that she does, from her smiles throughout her lessons, her kindness and patience when you are trying to learn something knew, and her enthusiasm and joy when you finally get it. Her joy is infectious. After two years of instruction, I can now dance styles ranging from east and west coast swing, salsa/bachata, tango, blues, waltz, country, and more! I’ve met the best people along the way and deciding to take lessons from her has been one of the best choices that I’ve ever made.So for whatever reason you may want to learn social dance, be it for one-time events like weddings, to learn a little more about social dance by yourself or with a partner, or to improve at a certain dance style, Campbell can cater to what you need and break it down for you, step by step. You won’t find a better teacher in Austin! Or anywhere else for that matter.

She was prepared for our sessions and always had ideas for us but ultimately we discussed everything and my husband and I got to choose the direction we wanted. She asked for our opinions and vision and truly help tailor to fit the dance to our personality. She’s picks up on things that may not be so smooth and is able to correct them by providing the right cues and aids. After only 4 sessions, we had learned so much and were truly confident. We got so many praises and we’re told that our dance was one of the best that’s some of our guests have seen. Ive known Campbell for years but never taken a private from her until recently. Her teaching skills are great for newbies and old hands alike! Here are specific examples of how she easily tailors a lesson to you no matter your skill level:Exhibit A: I showed up to her house after simply saying I would like to practice either blues or cross-step waltz - lets be clear that she knows I both lead and follow - and we smoothly got from my goals to practice.Exhibit B: Language - a small deal for many, a big deal for some. I told her that I needed to say front, back, front, back more than 1, 2, 3, 4 to understand the move I was doing and she adjusted her language for the rest of the lesson.Exhibit C: One of my goals was to transition from one step to another. She showed me one transition and I said that just doesnt feel like me - heres how I was planning to do it, but I never quite got it right. She then took my own crappily-formed idea and helped me make it a reality! This is major, yall!Major props to her for emulating all the different follows I may encounter during social dancing. That is *key* to helping someone move from dance lessons to dance socials, and so few people teach it!Above and beyond notes: She noticed when my brain was full and helped me write notes on what I learned so I could work on it afterwards. She also helped me find people to practice with afterwards, since practice is key to retention.14/10, would recommend.

Just a quick thank you. With deployments and training its been tough to keep up with dancing but I danced with my mom for the first time at my wedding (too shy growing up) and she was beaming the whole time and afterwards and people asked her the entire night how many hours we practiced (which we never had obviously). Taking my wife to 2 step when we dated was I think how I tricked her into actually dating me haha. And of the 200+ hours of courses with 3 degrees, I consider the skill I learned from you 1 of the 6 useful skills I actually learned from school.Hope all is well!

I have known Campbell Miller for about two years now, through the Argentine Tango community of Austin, Texas. Initially I used to get really nervous inviting her for a dance, since I was very sloppy back then, with just couple years into barely starting to learn Tango, and Campbell is a professor of social dancing at the University of Texas at Austin, who was already a pro by then, not just at Tango, but probably any dance you can think of. You name it, and Campbell is an expert professional at that particular dance style. But, as I danced with her, I saw what a nice attitude she has. Even though her caliber was much above me, every time we dance, she makes me feel so comfortable and brings out the best in me. Soon afterwards, I started taking a series of private lessons of Argentine Tango with Campbell and her dance partner, Ricardo. And that series of private lessons (I think about 10 or so) was a real turning point in my dance life. It just boosted me in a very short period of time from someone who couldnt even walk properly, to someone, whom now-a-days, a lot of people have been regarding as well into the intermediate level. I myself can feel the difference. Campbells and Ricardos pedagogical approach is so smooth, that one wouldnt even realize how much his/her abilities are sky-rocketing. Campbells depth of knowledge, teaching style, and friendly attitude motivated me to work hard and practice the things she taught me on my own, and even with her at practicas and get constant feedback. My confidence went up, and the following year, I participated at 6 different tango festivals and marathons at 6 different cities in the US, including some of the best in the country like Portland, OR, Seattle, Los Angeles etc. Incidentally, we ran into each other at Seattle and danced too, and that was indeed a heavenly experience. I have many more tango festivals and marathons for next year (2017) already planned both in the US and in Europe, and probably even a visit to Buenos Aires, Argentina. I owe all these primarily to Campbell and also Ricardo. It hurts my heart very deeply to know about her recent injury and resultant hiatus from dancing. I miss my teacher, Campbell every single moment I am practicing or dancing at a milonga. I wish her a very fast recovery and cannot wait to see her back on the dance floor, dancing and teaching. For those of you, who havent yet taken a dance lesson from Campbell, you are being deprived of some real good thing in your lives and you shouldnt do any further delay. I wish you all the best and good health, Campbell !!!RegardsSambuddha Chakrabarti (Sam)
