I’ve been at Westlake Taekwondo for over three years now and it is the best environment I’ve ever experienced! Everyone is so friendly and helpful- but the curriculum is still plenty difficult!

Westlake Taekwondo has been wonderful for our son - hes learned a lot from the instructors and respects them. The school teaches discipline, core values, challenges them to focus and work towards goals for every belt. Weve been grateful for the McCulloch family, especially as theyve quickly reacted and evolved their curriculum due to Covid. Hes still able to work on his belt material, take classes via Zoom, and its been a much needed outlet while we need to stay at home (though he cant wait to return to the studio!)

Westlake Taekwondo Academy is a family-run studio that focuses on teaching their students important life skills, such as self-control, patience, respect, and the value of hard work. My boys have attended for the past two years and have benefited greatly, both physically and mentally.

I have been attending Taekwondo classes here for seven years and I couldnt ask for a better group of people to learn and exercise with. Going through the belt ranks Ive learned everything from fine motor skills to self-defense to overcoming failure, and as a member of the instructor program Ive gained patience and understanding and a fantastic group of friends. This program has built my confidence and helped me become the person I am today.

Westlake Taekwondo Academy has been a fantastic experience for our son and we expect that to continue for the future. I have a nephew who is a Taekwondo Black Belt and have seen the positive effect it had on him as he grew up so I thought it might be good for our son to give it a try. And it certainly has been. A large part of the Westlake Taekwondo Program teaches life skills and community, and we saw a positive effect almost immediately even being reported by his teachers at school. As well, he has learned to work to a goal to earn each of his belts and the exercise and learning self-defense has been great for him. Quite a lot rolled up into one program and we highly recommend the McCullochs and their excellent Instructor Team.

We joined Westlake tkd in 2013 and its the best place for both Taekwondo skill development and other developing life skills like self control, honesty and perseverance, just to name a few.. Tarkwondo has really helped my son become a better person and I would recommend it to anybody.

This is a fantastic place to both get some exercise, and to learn a lifelong skill. The McCullochs are terrific teachers, very patient, and foster a real family atmosphere at the school. This filters down to the students - everyone treats each other well, even when theyre sparring. Much more Miyagi-dojo than Cobra Kai for those of you that remember Karate Kid. Everyone knows the goals that theyre working towards, and advancement vs. not is usually very clear. Its a testament that most students that start stay for several years - Ive been there for 6+ years myself.

I started taekwondo here back in 2008 and since then the school and people have impacted my life for the better. I began my taekwondo training at a different school and quit because I was unhappy. I eventually started taekwondo at Westlake and instantly began to meet lifelong friends and to learn skills beyond the martial art. I am now a black belt as well as an instructor at the Westlake Taekwondo Academy and there is no place I would rather be. This is a community that anyone can learn to thrive in. Mr. McCulloch is a very experienced instructor who attempts to push his students to do their best while providing a safe and disciplined learning environment. The instructors have a monthly meeting to discuss how to improve the curriculum and how to improve our teaching skills so that the students really have the best experience. It is hard to say that I have consistently done something year round for seven years straight, but I have never gotten tired of coming to Taekwondo. I enjoy taekwondo and the people who are around me on a daily basis: the pre-teens, the people in the adult class, and of course my instructors. I would recommend this school to anyone who wants to learn taekwondo and have a supporting community around them.
