Having attended a number of grappling schools in the area (mostly BJJ), I have found a home at Master Martial Arts. The culture Master Um has built truly fits what Ive been looking for. Being close to 50, I was worried that like the other schools Ive attended, the focus would be on winning against the other students. I do enjoy an environment of healthy competition but the focus here is on learning and self improvement. I recommend Master Martial Arts to anyone regardless of their age who wants to get in shape, learn a martial art, and build their self confidence.

Attending Master Martial Arts has been my best TaeKwonDo experience yet. Master Um is very patient and engaging, which is great for both young and adult classes.Him and his instructors are quick to help when ever you need it which creates a welcoming and comfortable environment. My kids have been attending classes at Master Martial Arts for at least 6 years. This is a wonderful martial arts school. Master Um is an excellent teacher who really cares about the students. It is a great way for both boys and girls and even adults to learn discipline, self defense, and gain confidence.

Ive attended Master Ums classes off and on since I was 5 years old. I am now 20 and take his classes whenever I can. He is an expert teacher and knows how to work with both young children and older adults. He operates with patience and respect, and he teaches the same to his students. I have never had a complaint. His class is well worth it, and I would recommend it to anyone.

Master Um does a fantastic job with students of all ages. I highly recommend him. Prior to Master Um, my kids had attended three other martial arts schools for short periods of time , Master Um clearly the best! He keeps the class fun for kids of all ages. And teaches them respect and hardworking. In the short of two years, my 8 years old kids have learned Korean words, combinations, and forms from the white belt in Taekwondo to the black belt. My younger boy who was only 4 when he starts his white belt year ago, now he just received his browns belt. Thank you Master Um. Kids live you!

I trained here as a teenager and returned as an adult and find that its still introducing new techniques and giving a good workout. The people here are great and the sparring is fun.

My kids LOVE this place. Both of them a boy and a girl. They understand kids here. Master Um is a firm teacher but I have never seen him get frustrated ever.

I have two kids who are currently in Master Ums Taekwondo program. Weve been enrolled for about two years, and the experience has helped with their physical development and with their mind/body awareness. But most importantly, it has helped instill in them a sense of discipline. Master Um possesses the gravitas to make even the rowdiest of children fall in line, but at the same time has enough patience to make the children comfortable with learning.We really cant recommend Master Um and Master Martial Arts enough.

I was always interested in studying martial arts, but given my age (45), I was concerned about injury and I wasnt sure where I would go. I asked a friend (Grand Master in Hapkido) to help me with some research in the Austin area. He recommended Master Martial Arts and Master Um.I tried Master Martial Arts under Master Um for one month and now Im hooked. Ive signed up for a year and I intend to keep going at it - hopefully achieving black belt along the way.Master Um is am amazing instructor. Very mindful, patient and his teaching style is extremely effective. Im excited to study TaeKwonYuSul and recommend it to anyone of any age!I wanted to add one last thing I forgot. Master Ums credentials, experience and lineage is amazing! He is such a humble man that you would never know from the website the extent of his training, experience, success and awards. Just ask and youll easily see hes probably the most decorated instructor in the region. Truly an honor to study under him.

This school is an excellent place to study martial arts. I’m currently an Adult Black Belt student here and all the classes are taught by Master Um. Master Um, is an 8th degree black belt in Taekwondo and he is phenomenal when it comes to teaching his students, especially with younger children, he is very patient and thorough with them as to make sure they learn everything properly and correctly. I Highly recommend coming and checking Our school out if you’re interested in learning a Martial Art, either it be Taekwondo or TaekwonYusul which is a standing and ground fighting class much like jiujitsu.

This is a fantastic Dojang, whether you are attending for self defense or fitness the instruction is the best and available for all ages. Master Um is very knowledgeable, a great teacher and cares about his students. The Traditional TaeKwonDo and TaeKwonYuSul provide a great combination of stand up and grappling arts. I highly recommend this school and have been attending for over 6 years.

When I first started martial arts 10 years ago, I searched the area for a suitable place. The first I went to was very militaristic in nature, and me being the rebel I am I couldnt stand it. Coming to Master Martial Arts, what stood out the most was Master Um. Unlike the previous guy, he was very laid back and understanding. In the 10 years Ive known and trained with him he has never gotten mad at anyone. Regardless of his pleasant personality, the quality of instruction has been phenomenal over the years and has kept me in shape. With a mix of tae kwon do and tae kwon yusul, I can choke, throw, kick and punch people who would do me harm effectively. The sparring is fun and safe, which you wouldnt expect from an activity where you choke people. Its a great way to blow off steam, and Id recommend it to anyone, regardless of their size. I have been taking taekwondo for 2 years now with Master Um and recently started Taekwon Yusul (grappling) and have learned so much. Master Um is an incredible instructor, both for adults and kids. I have 2 kids in his class and they love it. I have noticed increased strength and balance and exercise tolerance. My kids are learning to focus and that practice leads to personal rewards. Highly recommend! Also love his kickboxing classes. What a great workout!!

This is a really good taekwondo school which I am currently a student and have been for 2 years now. All classes are taught by Grandmaster Sam Um who is an 8th degree black belt in taekwondo and a 5th Dan in hapkido. I highly recommend our school if youre interested in learning how to defend yourself. Master Um teaches Taekwondo and Taekwon Yusul too which Taekwon yusul is similar to MMA but more for self defense then sport and Taekwon Yusul has hapkido techniques in it too.

Master Martial Arts is one of the best TaeKwondDo schools in Austin.I started training with Master Um in my late 30s and studied with him for 12 years. I was one of the first students to go from White belt all the way to 3rd Dan Black Belt with him as my one and only Master instructor.I won 2 Gold Metals at the Fort Worth International TaeKwonDo Competitions and I also had the fortune to be able to travel to Korea with Master Um, his wife and daughter and some of our American Students.We studied there for 10 days at the Olympic Center with some Korean TKD Teachers (Sajangnims) and Students from another school in Seoul, Korea.In addition, we did a lot of Site seeing while in Seoul and went to the TKD University and Museum and met Hyeon Jeong KUK( Olympic Gold medalist in 1988 and also won the most World Championship titles 1987, 1985, 1983, 1982). He also visited our school here in Austin shortly thereafter with several students from South Korea. Some of our Students, myself included, were able to train with him at our school in a special 3 Hour class and it is something that will be a part of me for the rest of my Life.
