I made the transition from Public to Private, and I have to say: this school is WONDERFUL. The teachers are amazing, they give the students the 1 on 1 time they need, my grades drastically improved from Fs and Ds to Bs and Cs..Long story put short....ODYSSEY SCHOOL RULES!And we get to do a bunch of awesome field trips!

Odyssey school has figured out the magic formula that just isnt possible in a large public school. They remove anxiety from the educational experience and as s result the students can focus on learning. When my HFA sons very good public school in the Eanes district presented a plan for his success as he transitioned to middle school we were amazed at how comprehensive it was and how many resources were available to him...and it was completely inadequate because it would not address the root cause of anxiety. We are so thankful that Austin has a very special place like Odyssey where he can excel not only with his own talents but do so in an environment that helps him develop the toolkit he will need as he goes through life.

Withdrawing our son from his senior year in the Dripping Springs ISD was the best thing we ever did for him. He is Dyslexic and Dysgraphic and had some processing issues. He was an A-B student at Dripping Springs ISD for all 11 years he attended with modifications and accommodations that we required after taking him to be tested on our own and on our own dime. I withheld him from taking the STAR test his Junior year because it is not a true reflection of his work and the accommodations he required were not going to be provided. We had heard about Odyssey and decided we were done with public education for good and enrolled him for his senior year. He absolutely blossomed in this wonderful environment with a small class size and teachers who actually stuck to the modifications and accommodations and understood how students with learning disabilities work. He had much more rigorous classes at Odyssey then at DSISD (an exemplary school district) and learned how to do so many things that are serving him well in college. Power point presentations, using note cards to make presentations, cooking for himself, doing his own laundry, budgeting his expenses, etc. Life skills that were never even hinted at in public school. The administrators are top notch and you will not be disappointed if you make the decision to enroll your child at Odyssey! It is a small community of caring educators and parents that keep this wonderful school going and all feel welcome at their numerous family friendly events. Take a tour, you will not regret it!

Odyssey School is a much needed alternative in the Austin area for students who have struggled in the traditional school environment and their parents who are frustrated with getting the understanding and response that they need to help their child feel comfortable and be successful at school. At my first meeting with Odyssey, I immediately felt understood as opposed to the usual uphill battle of trying desperately to explain (and even understand mysefl) what makes my unique child tick and stuggling to design my own accomodations to help her be successful in school. The difference in my daughter from last year in traditional school--where she refused to go to school for weeks on end and had many sleepless night full of anxiety--to this year at Odyssey school is beyond remarkable. She is so happy, is cheerful to go to school, and when I pick her up she always has a big smile on her face. She talks about how school is so much fun and that the teachers teach her in a way she can understand. She also says they dont move on until she understands and as a result she never feels like she is left behind. She is celebrated for her unique strengths and accepted for her weaknesses.

I looked into Odyssey for my son 2 years ago. After we shadowed was told that they simply Did not have the resources help him. Then they held out the carrot: If he comes to the summer camp, and does well, we will let him in.We went to the summer camp. Each and every day I went and met with each one of the teachers and counselors personally. Each and every day the teaches told me he was doing just fine. Without a single exception. Then when it came time to sit down with John, I was told that they simply did not have the resources to help him. The week before school started. Sorry. Hope you dont mind that we made our decision at the last second and your other options are now gone. And no you cant talk to the people who actually made the decision. That was one year ago. Im writing this now because a friend went thru the identical experience. Despite knowing exactly what happened to me she brought her son to the summer camp. He did great. Or so she thought. Or so the teachers told her. Then on the day before school started: Sorry we cant help him.If anyone is going to bring a cause of action against these people. Or perhaps go to the the appropriate state agencies. Contact me: Il be happy to tell my story.
