My son has been attending their early childhood program since he was two. The teachers have been wonderful and caring. He is always happy to go in the mornings. The student teacher ratios are better than any place we toured. The kids get a lot of out door play time which they need and he loves going to Spanish and music classes, the gym and even the cafeteria like a big kid. He is a rambunctious boy but the teachers never tell me the bad things he is doing in class, they always focus on what he is learning and how he is helping. We went through a few daycares, some priced much higher, that we couldn’t tolerate. My son would have a new teacher every week, there were not any organized activities. I was amazed when we found Redeemer Lutheran School. We had been contemplating moving to South Austin to be closer to my work but couldn’t find an early education program that even came close to Redeemer so we stayed and the commute is worth it. Our younger son will start as soon as he is old enough.

My kid is our second generation to be educated by Lutherans. Many of the teachers who helped me to love learning and formed my attitudes toward God, church, and education are still teaching at Redeemer now. I see in my child a reflection of Redeemers public statement and attitude: Love God, love learning, love others. This is not just a mantra or philosophy, it is a practical application for these educators and serious (but fun) business. My favorite part of Redeemers education metrics is that they watch carefully for a high percentage of children excelling, then increase difficulty because they realize that the kids need more challenge if they are doing too well, not less. My child is reading books to me in kindergarten, a year ahead of where I was with reading at her age. Its wonderful.

Horrible idea to send my child to Redeemer. He got a 2 HOUR SATURDAY DETENTION for urinating outside during recess. He was just FIVE YEARS OLD and in kindergarten. He did it behind a tree. Mothers of boys, would you consider this incident worthy of a TWO HOUR SATURDAY DETENTION requiring him to just sit down and be silent for 2 HOURS at 5 YEARS OLD.

I give it a solid “eh” rating. They were wonderful and sweet the first semester with my child who started the year very shy and quiet but she started having behavioral issues (she has an anxiety disorder and HFASD) and they were not well equipped to care for her. They started sending her home every single day she did anything out of line which just fed her anxiety. I had to provide a full time aide (out of my own pocket) or she was not allowed to come to school. This meant there were days she just could go to school or was only permitted to come half days. She was asked not to come to field trips as well which we had already paid for and we were not reimbursed. There are other children in the school with the same situation and full time aides provided by their parents but it seemed a little overkill for my daughter’s situation and expensive to add on to what we are already paying in tuition.I was also sad to find out from the aide after the school year was over, that the teachers and administration just ignored her and told the aide that she was responsible for my daughter and they werent doing anything with her any more. She was basically ignored by her own teacher. It was very heartbreaking for my daughter who was only a kindergartener.I think the elementary school is probably a fine for nuero-typical kids. Also tuition is actually pretty reasonable in comparison to other private schools in the area.
