I got my scuba certification at Toms about 10 years ago. My son now wants to get certified so we had to go back to Toms even though we live about an hour away. The staff is super knowledgeable, patient with beginners and enthusiastic in welcoming people into the scuba community.The shop is fairly small but has a good inventory of the equipment that youll need to dive. The best thing about the shop is the heated indoor pool they use for the lessons!I cannot recommend this place strongly enough for anyone interested in scuba diving!

I have had a great experience with Toms. I recently completed my advance certification with Ross, and he was great. Hes an awesome instructor for anyone who is looking to take the next step towards tech diving. A lot of emphasis is placed on trim, buoyancy, technical skills, and diving science. You come away actually being advanced and not just being advanced in title. I am happy to recommend Toms and Ross to anyone.

Swim lessons for my toddler have been worth every penny and more! The instructors are all very sweet and patient. At the start my kid was too scared to even get in the water at all, but even with just one lesson I could tell how well they guided her into loving the pool, and most importantly, how to be safe in/around the pool. After a couple more lessons she is now jumping in, going under water, learning how to actually swim, and getting better every day. Its been a great experience for all of us!

Absolutely loved being apart of Davids group, everyone was super helpful and professional.Equipment looks great, they have a great selection of masks available in store to try before purchasing along with several options for wet suits and other scuba gear.I was able to call and book my Open Water certification course within two weeks and only 1 day after the original date requested - Tuesday was full but Monday was open ❤️There was never a point during the entire training session I didnt feel comfortable or unguided - David and his team are very knowledgeable and I highly recommend them!

Simply, the best dive shop and classes anyone can ask for. You feel like family quickly, get sucked into loving this sport and can’t get enough of it. I got scuba certified during the summer 2021 and really enjoyed the experience. My teacher Bryan was excellent and balanced the difficult task of entertaining a random group of strangers while educating us on all of the important details around equipment and training for a safe scuba experience. The whole team is clearly very passionate and a fun bunch! Committing to the equipment and the class is not cheap, but I highly recommend this course if you do!Our classes started on time but occasionally ended a bit late to make sure we got enough pool time - so make sure to leave a little extra time afterwards!

Cash (the dive instructor who works here) is one of the most helpful employees I have ever come across. Trying not to take advantage of his time, I wanted to be precise and focused in my questions. The gentlemen took over 30 minutes over the phone to educate me, hear my vision, and offer resources and professional guidance / opinions that outweighed my weeks of online research. Very accessible and accommodating!! On our trip to texas, we had and extra day in Austin. We called and Tom made arrangements for a last minute Intro class.Mike was our scuba trainer. Just completed the open water certification course this morning. It was much more technical and academic than I anticipated, but my instructors were amazing and worked diligently with me to reinforce my confidence and ability to focus under water. Paul and Tyler were as every part professional, as they were personable. I cant wait to take more classes.

Our instructors, Carlos and Darlene, were absolutely amazing! They made the experience very enjoyable and did a great job preparing us for all of the potential emergencies that could happen while diving. They were very knowledgeable and informative!

I walked into Toms Dive Shop as a total newbie, wandering the store, probably looking like a lost puppy. Fortunately for me, Ryan Dunn stepped in and asked if I needed help, which I most certainly did. He helped to explain some diving tips and what sort of gear is and isnt necessary for my needs. As an obvious newbie myself, Ryan totally could have tried to sell me on a bunch of gear that I dont really need just as a short-term money grab, but he obviously really has a love for diving, and just wants to help other divers have the best experience themselves with the right gear for them. I will definitely visit Toms Dive & Swim for any future diving equipment needs and recommend them to anyone interested in diving.

My son tried other classes, but had a dramatic improvement after the preschool 1. I’m so thankful to have found Tom’s! I would highly recommend it!!

We have loved our time at Toms Dive and Swim for the preschool swim lessons. Our son, who is timid around water, has felt safe and has been learning so much! The teachers worked hard to gain his trust, kindly encouraged him to do the tough things he was afraid of, and ultimately, increased his confidence around water as he continue to learn! Class sizes are also small which we loved. Well be back for more classes soon!

I could not recommend Tom’s more for swim lessons. I had my boys, 5 and 7, in lessons off and on for about a year and it’s been the best thing. They are such confident swimmers and all of the coaches are wonderful. Coach Andrew built such a strong foundation for them with their strokes and water safety and coach Sarah helped build off of that. We are now starting swim team lessons somewhere else and Tom’s was the absolute best preparation for that. We’ve tried lots of different swimming lessons elsewhere and Tom’s is hands down the best. The small classes and pool create an easy, comfortable learning environment with no distractions. Forever grateful!

Toms Dive and Swim has been my primary dive shop since day one. My open water instructor Ross was superb, my Advanced open water instructor Carlos was superb, my CPR/O2 instructor Scott was superb. As for the shop its self Scott the manager is super knowledgeable always guiding me in the right direction for my equipment purchases and even preventing me from wasting money on unnecessary gear. The entire staff is super friendly and helpful. There is no reason to ever switch shops as long as I live and dive around Austin. You just cant go wrong making this this your go to dive shop in Austin.

It was a pleasure to work with Toms Dive and Swim Shop to learn proper and safe scuba skills while having fun!Having moved from Colorado, I reached out to their office to complete my scuba certification and the staff were supportive and helpful and willing to accommodate my request. Jackie quickly scheduled me for the two weekends I had available to complete a course refresh and accomplish my needed dives. When I arrived at the shop to purchase the gear, Larissa was extremely knowledgeable and helped me get the right fit and best equipment for my style of diving. When I arrived the following morning 30 minutes before class to prepare for the instructor pool dive, Ross took the time to refresh me on all the coursework that I had not accomplished since I took the course in February 2020. Ross was patient and explained everything efficiently and effectively, which is essential in the scuba environment. When my instructor (Dave Gullickson) arrived, he took the entire class through the material and then broke us into two groups with secondary instructor Gary Leach. Despite not diving in over a year, I was well prepared for the open water dives as I left the dive shop.The following weekend, Dave added the store manager Scott and an additional instructor, Tim, to the group to ensure all divers were accompanied and had adequate instructor coverage. The open water dives were fantastic because the instructors ensured everyone had the right gear, we were well informed and briefed on the dives, everyone was divided into manageable groups, and we had a terrific time! Since I lived three hours from the dive location, Scott eagerly took all the scuba gear I had borrowed and checked it back into the shop for me since I would not be able to do so. I was really impressed with the level of flexibility the shop allowed me and how willing the entire staff was to accommodate my schedule.Since I am in the military, I am constantly moving but I will ALWAYS come back to Toms Dive and Swim Shop to purchase scuba equipment/gear and complete any additional certifications! The staff and shop made this experience one of the best memories and helped me achieve an incredible goal and made this once in a lifetime opportunity truly a special moment.

My boyfriend and I, both in their late 20s, have taken private swimming lessons here and feel more confident being by ourselves in the pool. The instructors we have worked with, Blythe, Andrew and Renee, are patient, informative and friendly. We would recommend this place for adult swim lessons!

I finish my Open Water Certification next week and have had a blast! Everyone in the shop is polite, helpful, and knowledgeable. My instructor, Brian, has been great. My husband and I had an awesome experience getting our open water certification at Tom’s Dive & Swim! All of the staff was warm and welcoming and helped us to pick out the right gear. Our instructors Gary and Chris were great and helped us to feel safe and prepared by the time we got to the open water. We also had Matt and Brian help with our dives at the lake and they were great as well! We will definitely be back for more classes in the future.

Three folks in the SSI class had ruptured or perforated ear drums from pool or Lake Travis dive. Learned a lot of valuable information from the “assistant” instructor we didn’t hear before.

Our son has done 2 sessions of the preschool swim lessons at Toms, and each of the instructors weve had has been wonderful. They do a great job of engaging the kids and helping them learn in age-appropriate ways, and you cant beat the price! Highly recommend!

I did my open water certification for scuba diving (the initial certification to dive) here and had an awesome time! Tyler McAlpin was my instructor and he was patient, fun, and so flexible on timing and the certification process. His dad and Scott (the manager) also rotated in for some of my training so that was great to get different perspectives and tips. The rest of the shop team was just as friendly and helpful :)It was so much fun finally getting certified and I would definitely recommend Tom’s for anyone looking to get certified. Maybe next I’ll try some of the dive trips the shop offers!

I took an open water scuba certification course with Ross through Tom’s and it was fantastic. He was very accommodating with schedules and class types (in the pool training vs online zoom etc). He was also super knowledgeable on everything scuba - the gear, how to stay safe, a variety of tips, and easy but thorough training - plus he’s been doing this a long time and has had thousands of dives. I had no doubt of his (and the rest of the team’s) experience. In a hobby where it’s very easy for something to go wrong and someone to get hurt, I appreciate Ross’ focus on doing things the right way, the safe way. Would highly recommend anyone interested in scuba to check it out.

Toms Dive & Swim was a great place to get the advice and support I needed to transition from my entry-level dive equipment to a more streamlined and advanced setup. In addition to having the best scuba retail environment in Central Texas, Toms Dive & Swim has the most helpful staff of just about any place I have shopped in Austin.For a sport like scuba where your gear is true life support equipment, Toms has the right supportive sales environment that makes all the difference. I have shopped for years at other stores in Austin and the reasons I take my business to Toms now is 1) they let me try any gear they have in stock in the pool and dont charge me for the time 2) their sales staff has knowledge of advanced/tech gear that other shops in town refuse to sell 3) they engage their community of diving customers with great sales events and club outings that are much better organized than the local competition. Lastly, their prices are competitive with what I can buy online and they bend over backwards to make the ordering process a pleasant one, saving me time versus buying online myself (which I do most of the time). They are a true Local Dive Shop that i want to support, despite the fact they arent a PADI shop (not an issue for me).Thanks to my great experience purchasing a dive computer, I decided to take my gear tech makeover business to them before a big trip to Cabo this last summer. Most gear had to be ordered which the did for us after extensive help with reg choice, suit sizing and even a side-by-side reg test in their pool. They carry Apeks (other LDS doesnt) so they will be my go-to shop from now on for servicing and new gear.

This is, hands down, the BEST dive shop in Austin! The employees spend real time with you to make sure you purchase gear that fits properly and will last. I got both my Open Water and Advanced certification through Toms and both instructors I worked with (Brian and Paul) were so helpful and knowledgeable.

My one year old and I attended “parent and child” swim lessons here. It was a great experience! My daughter loved it, and the instructor was fantastic. I will definitely be back for more lessons in the fall!

My wife and I met with Curtis for an introductry class to scuba. We were both a little apprehensive but Curtis was awesome! He slowly and methodically introduced us step by step. We felt completely comfortable the entire journey and before we knew it, we were hanging at the bottom of the 10-ft section watching our bubbles rise. I cant recommend Toms (and Curtis) highly enough. Awesome experience!!!

I am moving to Costa Rica soon for a few months. Wanted to get back into diving and snorkeling. Andrew spent a lot of time with me picking out my Snorkeling gear. Very informative and patience. I had a great time learning how to dive! My instructor, Kevin, was super flexible on getting my cetification completed after I had a minor setback. All of the employees I dealt with in the shop were also friendly and helpful (and nice to a noobie I might add). A week after completing the open water course I did my first reef dive and now I am hooked.

Great swim lesson for my 4 year old. It was a small group of 3 kids. The instructor really kept them engaged. Weve only had one lesson so far but it was great and seems safe for Covid-19. The instructor wore a face screen the whole lesson.UPDATE:Weve now been going for about 2 years and have never had a bad experience. The staff are exceptional, friendly, and absolutely great with the kids at all skill levels. If I could rate it more than 5 stars, I would.

Tom’s is great!! The staff is super friendly and go out of their way to help. We have had our kids in swim lessons their for over 2 seasons and the experience has been excellent. One of my kids has disabilities and they took him in for swim lessons just like he was any other child and we’re super patient with him. Andrew is dedicated to a safe and effective swim program and is great with the kids, as are all the other instructors.

My three young boys participated in Parent’s Night Out. Not only did they have a blast but also improved their swim skills. They keep begging me to go back.

Toms Dive and Swim has been such a wonderful place for my son to learn to swim! -warm and inviting, yet structured and motivating with a positive approach. Parents have a great view through large glass window with a full view of the pool for watching their children during class. I love that it is centrally located and Andrew the aquatics director is amazing! Totally recommend swimming lessons here!

We have gone here for parent-child swim classes and they are phenomenal. The instructor is able to work with each child’s different abilities to cater drills and techniques to them. Everyone is extremely friendly and seems to love what they are doing.

My 6 year old and 5 year old have taken 2 week group swim lessons at Toms Dive and Swim every summer for the past 3 years and they love it. They are not afraid of the water, they jump into the water, and they jump off the diving board. We will continue to use Toms Dive and Swim for our kids swim lessons.

Kids left home!! Wife and I wanted to try Scuba. Took lessons here at Toms. Was excellent teaching and it work with our work schedules. Got certified and went to Cancun!! On the boat with us, for our 1st open water dive, was other divers who did a resort certification. Right away we could see a difference with our training and theirs. They were nervous and really did not have a good grasp on what was happening. Wife and I checked each other out, and confidently got into the water and had a great time. After the 1st dive we were on the boat waiting an hour to dive again, the others were asking us how long we have been diving. They did not believe that this was our first dive. Please for your safety and enjoyment get certified here!! BTW, wife and I are getting ready for next trip for dives 33 and 34!!

Great staff. Excellent product knowledge and awesome trainers. Im taking open water scuba at the moment. They have a ton of courses and everything from kid goggles to the highest quality dive computers and everything inbetween.

Tom’s Dive Shop really understands the customer service industry! My husband and I did our open water diver certification over a couple months as a private group due to schedule constraints and my level of anxiety about the activity itself! I cannot say enough good things about Kirk who was not only incredibly knowledgeable about all things diving, but he took his time with me and knew how to teach someone who was scared to death about the idea of diving but wanted to try it anyway!! Everyone at the store is always very friendly and more than willing to help explain all gadgets and equipment, which is very helpful as a novice diver! More businesses need to learn from this store on how to treat customers!!

The teachers here are awesome! They have gotten my son from being completely terrified of getting water in his face to wanting to practice backfloating and submerging his face in the bathtub. The progress he has made in just a couple of courses is amazing!

My 3-year old has been taking swim lessons for a few months and hes doing really well and making progress! The instructor, Hannah, is fantastic - very patient and has an easy rapport with the children. The number of kids in each class is small, so they get one-on-one instruction. I would highly recommend Toms.

Scott Parker was amazing! He made our experience fun and enjoyable! My husband and I hadn’t dived in a few years and he eased us right back into it. He easily relates the skills to real life situations that are not only easy to replicate, but also easy to remember.

I’ve used Tom’s many times since 2000. First to get scuba certified, later when my kids were learning how to swim, more recently when they got scuba certified and then when we all got advance certifications. I’ve never had a bad experience with any of the many instructors over the years. They’ve all had a great attitude, are professional, well-qualified, and keep it fun. Staff in the store are always helpful, friendly and knowledgeable.

My almost 4 year old daughter has almost completed 2 full sessions at Toms Dive and swim, its amazing how much she has improved after only one other session when she was only 2; Shes going under water now, learning basic strokes and most importantly easing into how much fun swimming can be with confidence. I went in recently to purchase some gear and get some advice regarding an upcoming dive trip. The staff here, Sarah specifically, were more than willing to help and truly went above and beyond with the quality of service provided. She provided candid advice regarding the dive computers, was remarkably patient when helping me decide on the right mask, and was quick to point me in the right direction for insurance. I look forward to doing more business with their shop in the future and doubt I could ask for more from a store.

This is a great place for the kiddos to learn how to swim. The people are incredibly nice/welcoming/friendly, the classes are small and the instructors are great and the location is very convenient if you are in central/north-central Austin. They emphasize actually teaching kids swimming and water safety, not splashing around/playing games in the water, like some other places we tried before finding Toms. They are a diving school first and foremost so definitely take safety and good instruction seriously. Their pool is comparatively on the smaller side but perfectly sufficient and well-equipped (and smaller pool means you cant have 10 groups of kids/instructors doing 10 things simultaneously). Seriously, cant say enough of good things about them.

This swim school is a hidden treasure in Austin. Caring instructors, incredibly affordable rates, and a wide range of scheduling options. My son went from being slightly fearful of the water to being able to swim short distances in a span of 2 short weeks. We are so happy with Tom’s!

Kirk and team at Toms Dive are simply awesome. There is no other shop around that I have found that is as friendly and welcoming for people new to the sport. I had, and still have, so many questions and the team are there every step of the way. I will continue to buy all my gear here.

I did my scuba open water certification here under Dave. I drove from Leander every time for my class (30 mins away) but no regrets. Everyone at shop is very friendly and accommodating. I wish the pool were a little bigger but hey I shouldnt be complaining when everything else was so perfect. Definitely recommend this place for scuba certification. my wife is next in line for the certification.

I loved the experience I had getting my open water certification. Our instructor was Casey who was extremely knowledgeable, lighthearted and quick to lighten the mood with a joke. I highly recommend Toms to anyone looking to get certified.
