I really wanted to love this place , as there are so many good reviews. However, I am severely disappointed with the unreliability of the instructor. I understand the shortage of staff and everything going on because of the pandemic, but I believe it would be fair to refund or make up missed classes especially when it is at fault of the instructor/owner. Instead I was told I was “out of luck” because I didn’t want to pay for a second month after I was charged a different price ($108) then what was listed on the website ($80), along with a $75 year membership that wasn’t mentioned until you signed up. The Extra fees would have been fine had I received good service 😊 Regardless of the “hidden” fees, I was excited about my daughter learning a new skill and it would give me peace to know shes safer in the water but unfortunately out of 8 classes we only had 6 and our last one was some young girl who seemed to be really shy & didn’t really know what was going on?? Not her fault obviously she was not trained.I have now tried to contact Amanda at least 4 times about making up the 2 classes or potentially getting a refund but again super unreliable so no response. I included a picture since she seems to have not received my messages. There were multiple other parents in my class who were upset with her services or lack there of. Don’t waste your money. Seriously it feels even worse when it pertains to your child. But I guess “having a rough week” makes it okay to steal from parents. Thank you for reading!

My boys have been in swimming lessons for a year now at seahorse academy and we absolutely love it. We started with three months of baby and me with my youngest who was 9 months at the time while we waited to be able to get in to private lessons with my oldest who was 2.5 .My oldest took some warming up to but Amanda was so patient with him and he has absolutely flourished in the water. This summer has been so fun with all our water activities due to these boys new confidence in the water due to Amanda’s great work. My oldest was even brave enough to jump off a diving board at the cabin we just went to.I’m pregnant with my Third and can’t wait to get back into water babies with her.Thank you Amanda and staff at seahorse for creating such a great space for our kids to learn water safety

We have had such a wonderful experience with Seahorse Academy. Swim lessons are a highlight of our week. Both of our boys love Miss Amanda and her approach to teaching. They have both learned so much, gained confidence and found a new love for the water. We can’t thank Seahorse Academy enough!

Amanda and her team are all amazing. I have five boys and they all have special needs. Other folks have told me it’s not worth the time to teach them. Seahorse Academy not only said yes but taught them to love swimming! Thank you!!!

We absolutely adore Miss Amanda and her other instructors! She cares so deeply about the kids and it shows! I don’t know how she does it all and when she does have to cancel she always apologizes and does whatever she can do to make the situation right. She’s a human like the rest of us and needs a sick day every now and then and I totally understand that!

I can’t say enough good things about Amanda and her swim classes. We have known her since she was first doing her lessons at the country club house and special olympics. My son loves coming to Amanda’s class and he really loves Amanda. Amanda has been working with my son since he was 4 months old. The boys I nanny for all have taken her classes and still do and two of the boys have Down syndrome and she does a great job with them. She takes consideration of children’s fears and parents concerns. I would 100% recommend her classes.

I will say I enjoyed the blow up sea creatures that decorated the pool area with my grandchild .Still blow up sea creatures are not enough when working with families .I had until now excused Amanda’s behavior believing she was experiencing some personal issues. Now that I see missing class is a habit for her , and she has no remorse , I can only feel disgust. The arrogance she displays as she apparently puts away hundreds of dollars a month of unearned income is an embarrassment really . Our little group alone was at least five babies at two missed classes each (50$ Per person ).The “wait list “ ( though this could be false information) she claims to have is not the equivalent of a happy customer . It is a group of unknowing parents intending to enrich the life of their child . I hope Amanda will think about the experience of others in the future . With the money she has allotted as a donation to herself she should take a course in ethics .Amanda ,Thank you for finally responding below. Why is this the only forum that receives a response from you ? Did I misunderstand the pricing ? If so I apologize. This complaint is not simply about money it’s about the way you treat clients . I have to agree with the negative yelp reviews..“…and scammy” .Yes I understand you are busy like the rest of us . I also have my own business and I know things can be difficult with the public. Still I think it is unhealthy to dismiss the experience of others .Are all of your reviews false? If I had an unhappy client I’d be concerned ,not insulting . I find this toxic.Just as I found the conflict with the uhaul dropping off personal items during a children’s class odd and out of place.I cannot be sure as to what your reasoning is or what is true from you. If you did refund the others , thank you . As of this moment I was not refunded for missed classes , this is a fact. All other fees were clearly a waste of money.I have compassion for the other folks that have had the misfortune of dealing with you . If you want my experience removed from your reviews then make it right . Otherwise carry on .

Sea horse academy had sent my family a link for optional swimming classes. We had decided to sign up and were excited to be apart of the swim academy. During the process there were some mistakes made including the wrong class time we needed and the date of our childs birth. We had emailed, text, called, left voice-mail and no reply or call back. After 2 weeks of trying to get ahold of the academy the classes had begun, they charged us for half of the cost of the course. After finally getting ahold of them in week three of trying. Now they did not have availability for the class we needed to be able to join in the first place and they also took all the money we had already paid. Our family lost the chance to do any swim classes because they didnt pick up there phone and they also charged us for partial of the class we could never be apart of from the start. The owner was very nice but this company lacks professionalism, organization and refuses to refund your money or except accountability for there mistakes.

This school has been a life changer for our family. My daughter is 9 and has always been fearful of water and we have tried lessons at multiple places over the years. I decided to get on the waiting list for Seahorse Academy to give swim lessons one last try before giving up. Now both my kids take lessons and they both look forward to their lessons all week!. As far as I am concerned, Amanda is a miracle worker with kids that are fearful of water and we are so glad we found Seahorse Academy.

Amanda and her facility are truly top notch! Her instruction is thoroughly thought out, interactive, engaging, and breaks down barriers of fear. We’ve gone from never swimming in open water to rolling and floating in a short period of time. Seeing my toddler progress in just a few short weeks has been amazing and such a praise to the class’s structure, teachings, and Amanda’s calm demeanor even when there’s a tantrum in the pool. We know our little one is learning skills to help her survive a fall into a pool, lake, or river- and for that we are forever grateful!

I cannot say enough good things about Seahorse Academy! Our instructor (and owner) Miss Amanda has a special touch for easing kids into the water and my 1.5 year old daughter connects really well with her method of teaching. I look forward to our sessions and seeing how much progress she makes each time—it truly is a testament to the structure and methods of the classes. I really appreciate how clean and cared for the facilities and pool are, and it’s a joy to watch my daughter light up when I say “want to go to swimming lessons?”. Thank you, thank you, Miss Amanda, for cultivating a safe, wonderful environment for our kids to learn to swim!

We had been attending lessons for a month, with zero issues, and in fact had been having a wonderful experience with instructor Rachel. However, that changed today. My daughter was obviously scared, clinging to the instructor, and saying “no, I don’t want to do that” multiple times for the last exercise she was asked to do (bubbles underwater, while grabbing a toy on the floor of the pool). I was watching as she was clinging to the instructor expressing her fear, and then without taking an adequate breath she was forced under the water to complete that exercise. I yelled out “no” and when they came up I told the instructor to never do that again, that if she is that scared and saying no, she needs to be respected. At that time, the owner Amanda, who was also teaching came over. Instead of being compassionate and understanding, she explained that “if we don’t push their boundaries, then they will continue to say no and not get the hang of it”, “maybe this isn’t the right fit for you” to which I told her we would speak after my second daughter was done with her lesson. When we stepped aside to speak later, she repeated the same things, and did not seem to have any kindness, compassion or respect for myself or the situation that had happened. She only continued to say that “she wouldn’t have her instruction methods undermined” and that “it wasn’t a good fit” to which I agreed and was offered a refund for my remaining lessons paid for. Not only am I upset and disappointed about my daughter’s experience, I’m appalled by the lack of kindness and compassion that the owner showed. For kids to learn, trust, and enjoy being in the water, those two qualities are key to ensuring that for each person. Apart from this issue, communicating via email or phone has been very frustrating. Not hearing back promptly, as in either no response or weeks later, (besides one time I did hear back the day after I emailed) and also no clarity in the communication. What we experienced today, shows the lack of professionalism and respect that this business operates on. I’m saddened for my kids, for my interaction with Amanda, but also for the other patrons and the business. As an owner of a small business, I would have expected more class and understanding.

My 3 year old has been attending swim lessons here for about 6 months and we are so happy with the progress he’s made. The first few weeks were rough (lots of tears and fear) but his instructors were kind and compassionate and really supported him and his anxious parents! They came up with an individualized plan to get him more comfortable and confident and it’s really paid off. The biggest thing we wanted to accomplish was getting him “survival skills” but this has turned into a genuine love of the water and swimming.

We have had a wonderful experience at Seahorse Academy. We’ve had my daughter in water babies classes with Amanda since she was 10 months old. Now, at 18 months she has learned lifesaving skills if she were to fall into water. The classes are perfect balance of skill development and fun. My daughter gets so excited to go “nimming”! I also like that her lessons are twice a week (it seems like once a week is the norm at other places).

I can’t say enough good things about this program!!! I have had my kids in several swim lessons around town, but nothing like this one. Others scarred them so much that they were terrified of water for a long time. My kids now LOVE coming to swim and are much more confident swimmers, and I’m more confident knowing they are getting valuable skills, which puts my mind at ease. They make them really work and have fun during the lesson so you are getting tremendous value during the 30 minutes. My kids look forward to their lessons every week, Miss Taylor and Miss Amanda are fantastic teachers and truly care about their students!! I’ve been telling everyone I know about how wonderful they are! Bring your kids here!!!
