I have been a student at Yong Studios for about 12 years, and every time I take class, I learn something new. Both of the instructors are excellent. They work hard to ensure that in every class, no matter your skill level, you are working hard, breaking a sweat and learning the techniques properly -- whether its learning a new form, practicing combinations or sparring. Taking classes as a child or as an adult teaches you how to be disciplined and how to defend yourself.

I recently switched to going to Yong Studios Bethesda as opposed to the studio in Tenleytown. Although the space is different, the same quality instruction and community is still there even in this pandemic. Classes are limited so that students can social distance and everyone wears masks. Also, parking is plentiful.

Hands down the best martial arts school in the whole DMV area! Both the DC and Bethesda locations foster a strong community of students and instructors that make the studio like a second home. Master Kim and Master Surage are both extremely qualified and passionate instructors that hold students to the same high standards that they hold themselves. I have been with Yong Studios for 17 years now and still find myself learning and growing every time I go back for a class (in addition to being a great workout!). I would highly recommend the studio to everyone kids and adults!!!

Exceptional teachers make this studio great. Masters Kim and Surage combine technical expertise and high expectations for students with humor, warmth, and genuine joy in interacting with young people. We consider ourselves extremely fortunate that this studio has been almost a 2nd home for our son over the past decade, as he has grown from a skinny and fidgety 7 year old into the strong, confident high school senior he is today. If you are a parent looking for a safe place for your child to grow and thrive--Yong Studios is it!

Yong Studios has been a part of my life for over 15 years now. I came in as an awkward 7 year old with zero coordination, no confidence, and no friends. I’m proud to say I now actually have all of those things thanks to Master Kim and Master Surage, and what they’ve built here. They make this place feel like home, and I’m a happier, stronger, more confident person because of it. If you’re looking for a place for your kid to grow in a safe space with incredible instructors and mentors, choose Yong Studios. If you’re looking for a place to continue or start your Taekwondo journey as an adult, this is it, you will not find a better studio (trust me, I’ve tried).

Yong Studios took over from Coles Martial Arts back in January and they have done a great job handling the transition amongst the COVID crisis-keeping students up to date and doing what they can to still operate with everyones safety in mind (including offering online instruction). Both Master Kim and Master Surage are extremely knowledgeable and skilled instructors, as well as genuinely good people! With classes offered every day except Sundays, depending on your availability you can really get a lot out of each month of training. Highly recommend!

Tae kwon do at Young studios has changed my life. I started going there when I was five years old, and I’ve never stoped going there since. They inspire they’re students to work hard in the studio, and out. During COVID, I have needed them more than ever to stay in shape, and luckily, they have installed safety measures such as mask wearing, sanitation, and social distancing. If you are not comfortable with going in studio, they have online classes.

I started at Yong Studios back in 2010 because my parents signed me up since I needed an afterschool activity and I wasnt all that into soccer or theater. Ever since then, I havent stopped! Master Kim and Master Surage constantly push all of their students, adult or child, to do better.Yong Studios offers a positive learning environment where students are not only encouraged by the instructors to do well, but by each other. Its definetly a place where you build long lasting and genuine relationships with all of your peers. For children specifically, Yong Studios also offers an environment where they can acquire discipline in a positive environment, develop leadership skills, and grow both physically and mentally. Its an environment where there is a clear hierarchy of ranks and where respect and focus are part of the guiding principles, but its not a place where hazing or humiliation is in store for someone of a lower rank. To the contrary, the rank is earned every day and those who try to bully people because of their rank are quickly reprimanded. In addition, child students are put in an environment where they have more opportunities to hone leadership skills that may serve them well later in life. Higher ranking students are expected to be the more mature mentor/peers that lower ranking students can approach for help with technique or form. Its not uncommon to see students of the same age helping each other with their forms or combinations before and after class. Once a child student reaches black belt, they are also put into a position where they have the opportunity to become a student instructor, leading other groups of students in classes. The higher ranking black belts also help to judge at belt examinations and supervise other student instructors. The leadership opportunites afforded are much greater than in most other after school sports in which it is unlikely that a child will gain much leadership experience until they become a team captain in their final years of secondary school. At Yong Studios, students much younger are put in a position where they are immersed into the responsibilites of leading others from a young age which, regardless of whether or not someone intends to pursue a leadership or management related career, is still helpful in developing interpersonal skills.Ultimately, Yong Studios is a positive environment for people of all ages and for anyone interested in trying out a martial art or Taekwondo specifically, I would highly reccomend it.
