High Five is simply awesome. Dave the new Facilities guy greeted me with a smile each time I visited to see my grandchildren during their swim lessons. BTW, if the littles ones you love dont know how to swim, get them registered for lessons. My grandchildren, 3 & 6. loved their swim instructors. High 5 gets 5 High Stars from me!

Pros: Nice faculty, looks like it is being worked on.Good pools, friendly staff. Pool environment seems well maintained.Cons: No showers in the mens locker room, looks like it was gutted. No working changing table in either the mens, womens, or family restrooms/locker rooms in the pool side of the facility. Luckily the staff didnt seem to mind me changing a poopy diaper on the Picknick tables. The per person price of a membership is more than a family membership at the YMCA.

I am very disappointed with this business. We came here for swim lessons for my younger child. Out of the 4 times we have come we have been turned away on two separate occasions because apparently their scheduling system is not communicating with the instructors(both the instructor and the front desk worker specifically told me this). After these incidents, combined with the fact the aquatics director(Sharon) never responded to an email my wife sent, I asked the front worker to have Sharon call me at their earliest convenience. After 4 hours I called them only to find out that Sharon was not coming in today(front worker told me that they were not in yet, which gives me the impression they were coming in. When I asked for another member of leadership I was told there were none….. this seems like a brush off and makes me feel like a customer with little value. To top it all off when I called, Mariah(sp) decided to reply after re-asking for a member of leadership With “like I said”. Pro-tip for you Mariah, never say that to a customer!!!!! I would REALLY like to get a resolution to this situation.

I do not suggest this place for kids to get taught swim lessons here at all. They are in same class forever hardly any improvement and no professionalism among the swim instructors. Also I would not advise no one to work here not even for a short period of time. The pay sucks, no employee care, etc. Does not matter if you are a customer or an employee you are just a number on a page to them.

I am a Hillsborough county employee at one of BSAC’s Afterschool locations. I just wanted to say it is so nice to have a Afterschool provider at my school that works with us! This year has been tough and BSAC is still a consistent and safe place for our students to go. I know this review is the least I can do in this time of need for small businesses. However, the staff listen to any concerns we have and address them right away! They ensure the students safety and go above and beyond with covid protocols. I spoke with a young woman today who showed the upmost professional and respect to school staff as well as the kids. She wanted to discuss behavior techniques for a child in my class to create a consistent basis for him! This is super and makes what I teach in the classroom filter into the end part of his day, I feel safe recommending bsac to my families because of how professional the environment is. Kudos to this program.

Drove 55 minutes for my daughters swim practice. And was told at the gate that only one parent may enter. I understand for safety however should have posted on the app or on the website. Now I have to miss my daughters practice while sitting in my car for an hour. Definitely worth the 55 minute drive.

BSAC is a great place if you are looking for great after school activities or summer camp. They also provide swim lessons and have a great swim team. I also love that they have a Trident program for adults with special needs to have a place to go during the day and interact. I highly recommend BSAC!

I am posting this as someone who has been employed at BSAC for over four (4) years. I have been involved in competitive swimming my whole life. I have seen it from every possible angle; athlete, club coach, college coach, parent, etc.. I know what a winning culture is when I see it. Winning cultures share many common elements. Of course there is a dedication to excellence, a can do attitude and a passion for providing the best experience possible for your internal and external clients. What BSAC also adds to the mix is a true appreciation for their employees. Family is very important. As a swim coach, we call it. Swamily, but that attitude is present throughout the entire BSAC family. As a man of a certain age, who has enough experience to select his professional environment, I choose to be at BSAC for all the reason mentioned above and more. If you are seriously looking at a great place to work, experience personal growth and make an impact on our community at large, take a closer look at BSAC. There are opportunities for employment and growth in a wide variety of areas. Its more than just a job, its a career opportunity with people who truly care about you as an individual.

Nice place to swim. I love the cleanliness of the pools. Most of the lifeguards are very alert and helpful. However, some of the camp instructors need to have boundaries with the children. In my visit I saw too many children getting in their space, as a parent of a daughter. I wouldn’t dare approve of my child sitting in a instructors lap or between their legs. No matter the circumstance. It’s totally inappropriate.

My familys experience here has been wonderful! My son has been attending the after school and summer camp programs for the last 7 years. My daughter recently started and loves it as well. They have lots of activities for kids to do and the staff is friendly and accommodating. We know that our children are in a positive environment and safe. We truly have peace of mind with the care that they receive.

My son enjoys doing his lessons here, and the instructors hes had have all been very patient and attentive. I will admit the lessons during the summer can be a bit annoying with substitute instructors here and there, but the lessons during the rest of the year tend to have fewer kids and regular staff. The prices are very affordable ($120 for 12 sessions) and the instructors work with you on making up missed classes so you get your moneys worth. They appear to have also revamped their swim program; for example, when my son first started the lessons were 40 mins then were reduced to 30 minute sessions. I was told the reason for this is the kids get tired and disinterested quickly. Class sizes are also smaller with an average of 4 students per instructor, except for Manta Rays and Sharks (level 4 and 5). The schedule of the classes have also changed from one class weekly to 3 classes weekly so they are more aligned with the swim team schedule (in case your child is working towards this). Progression to the next level is based on the childs ability to master the techniques so they may progress faster or slower than others, and may even linger in the same level for a while.Weve only been here for the aquatics programs so I have no input on their other programs, although I have friends and coworkers who have had their children in the tennis and afterschool programs and have nothing but good things to say about those programs. Overall, Id definitely recommend checking this place out to anyone.

I am very disappointed with the swimming instructors. These instructors are just kids doing summer jobs. They don’t have any experience or pedagogy to teach. Each day my daughter had a different instructor and they never knew the individual level of each child. I don’t see how BSAC can be successful with this program if they do not improve it. Everybody is very nice there and I wish them well because the community needs a good aquatic center.

Between their after school program, swimming, diving, tennis, & other programs they have been a fixture in the Brandon community since the 1960s. They are an amazing non-profit organization that has positively impacted the community for decades. I have two kids. Currently, one is taking swimming lessons and the other one is in the swimming group. It is almost two years since my first kid started to learn swim here. We come to the center at least 3 times a week. For Swimming lessons:NO COMMUNICATION from the program director, except two advertisement kind of emails which suggest you that the weather is warm and good for swimming. (Back in January and February, there were few kids coming to the lessons). You have to figure out any changes and ask around and adjust to it. If you do have questions and bring to them. They will give you all those big reasons why they are doing this. For Example: why the program has been through so many changes? The director said that they had done researches last year and they tried to change the program to make kids move up higher level fast. Im just curious what researches/data show that shortening the lessons from 40 mins to 30 mins will help kids to improve their swimming skills more quickly.EVER CHANGING coaches. Always new faces. They come and go. They give lessons. Thats it. They dont track your kids progress. If you stay in one level very long, you just could not find out whats really going wrong and what you can do to help your kids. (There is kid who stays in a level for about 10 months. The mother is concerned. The coach said, oh , yeah? You just need more practice.)COST. Ok, for each session, thats not much. But it takes a few sessions to move to next level. For example, suppose your kid needs 4 sessions to graduate from each level. There are 4 levels here. So you might need 16 sessions. No less than $1300, based on new rate. Thats a very conservative estimate. The program is changing the lessons to 30 mins. Kids to coach ratio would be around 6:1 most of time during summer. If your kid is stuck in one level, the bill builds up very fast. For swimming group:The center is under renovation. Kids are packed in one line. Sometimes, more than 15 kids in one lane. Kids get kicked by other kids during swimming all the time. Its not what we anticipated. But its fully understandable. So no complain. My kid assured me no need to worry about this. However, when my kid was kicked and pushed by somebody in the pool when they were not swimming. I did not expect the following response from a coach, especially the coach was a retired Methodist Pastor. When Coach Steve heard that my kid was kicked and pushed. Coach Steve did not bother to ask further questions about when and where and how these happened. He just jumped into: Kicking is normal. Push is not allowed. But I did not see it.... Most of the words are about how normal kicking happens when kids are swimming. Coach Steve did not pay any attention to my kid. My kid has calmed down before he became involved. Then my kid started to sob again. My kid tried to say something about what really happened. Coach Steve went on normal kicking thing without giving him any opportunity to explain more. The kid who kicked and pushed my kid left happily. This is the second time the same kid who did this to my kid. I have no comment on this kid and the parent. But I was so disappointed by the way how Coach Steve handled this. As an authoritative figure, through your words, you were actually telling my kids that his feeling was so wrong, no big deal. These things do not happen daily. But when they do happen, will it possible to take a few minutes to listen to the kids. And please do not say:I did not see it. I dont want my kid think that as long as coach doesnt see it, kicking/pushing another kid will not be a big problem. (Does the BSAC plan to influence kids life this way?)UPDATE(2 weeks after the accident):IF ANYBODY IS CONCERNED ABOUT HOW THE CENTER HANDLED THIS KICKING/PUSHING HAPPENED TO MY KID, PLEASE JUST LET ME KNOW. I AM WILLING TO SHARE THE COPY OF THE COMMUNICATION FROM Coach Rich Rogers, WHICH WAS JUST ONE EMAIL.

We brought our son here for swim lessons and we were very pleased. So when it was time for our daughter to start lessons we knew exactly where we wanted to bring her. It was a very disappointing expierence unfortunately. The instructor for the class was only present one time which is fine because we realize things happen in life. But, It seemed to be that there was no communication on what to do to the ladies that were helping fill the position. While watching my daughter do the moves I heard the instructors talking to one another asking. “ Do we just keeping doing this same thing til the end of the class.” We unfortunately will not be coming back for swim lessons here. It’s stinks because we did have such a great experience the first time around. 🙁

Not too happy with the summer camp program. Disorganized with a lack of communication and information on schedules, trip plans, and itinerary changes. Too many times I found my son with his group in the wii room and he would share that they would go in there a couple times a day (it wasnt even listed on the activity schedule). Not only is that a problem, but the room itself is not adequate for childcare - small room and there is NO seating so the kids are huddled on the floor in corners. I was also told they would enjoy tennis as part of the camp and they did not once include as an activity. The facilities in general are falling apart and in need of some overdue TLC. Pro: The staff is courteous, however quite young but seem responsible. Need a better organized program with clearer communication among staff and with parents.

Just moved back to FL from CA and I had my son in an after school program at a local boys and girls club. He had an extremely hard time adjusting and did not fit in. He was doing things completely out of character that he had never been exposed to. He’s in 1st Grade and was hanging out with 4-5th graders and always the one getting into trouble bc he was new and not able to articulate what was going on, which was teaching him not good things. It had a huge impact on every aspect of his character. UNTIL I signed him up for swim lessons at BSAC. We both loved the vibe and we did a week camp they offer, the same week. Instant results in confidence and behavior/ respect, he was back to himself because they except him. We now do this amazing after school program and everything has finally got back on track, school, home, socializing, EVERYTHING!! I can not thank BSAC enough, I get emotional every time I think about how hard it was when we first got here and the progress he has made going to BSAC. The difference one place can make on a child, supervision and programs to build their confidence is amazing. Thank you so much!! From a very grateful parent! You guys are doing an AMAZING job!

This place is not a nice place to look at. The pool area looks very run down and depressing. The staff is very rude and condescending. The prices are too espensive for a regular middle class family and the facilities are too run down for the upper class. If you plan to send you child here for swim lessons you should be wary and look for another place. The lessons are not that affordable and the instructors are inexperienced. I sent my daughter to the swim lessons and the person who taught her was barley two years older than her and did not know what he was doing. The center should move up their minimum hiring age to 18 instead of hiring high schoolers for jobs that they are not ready to do.

Parents, you need to know that this place is extremely unorganized and the staff are very inexperienced and have little training with taking care of children. The ratio of the number of children to camp counselors is terrible. The amount of bullying that goes on here is crazy, and the management doesnt seem concerned at all. And I agree with Debby, they use the Wii room and iPads as babysitters. Half of the time my son didnt do his homework or even eat his snack, but he was allowed to play video games for hours. Thank God I never had an emergency and needed to reach them on the phone because thats something that is virtually impossible to do. How can an after school place not answer the phone when parents call? How can there not be an emergency number? Still thinking about signing your child up for after school care or summer camp here? Do yourself a favor and stop by on any given afternoon and see the chaos that goes on here first.

Do NOT send your children here! My 6 yr old was bit not once, not twice, but THREE times and the counselor didnt think it was worth reporting. The following week my daughter was punched by a little boy who had to be restrained and sent home due to other actions he already did that day. I called Christine and asked her to keep my child away from the boy and up front instead of going back to the homework room since I would be there ten mins after the school drops her off. Where did I find my child? The homework room! BSAC doesnt follow child to counselor ratio. While walking to the homework room we saw 6 year olds randomly walking between the gym and the tennis court saying they were getting water. Then we walk into the homework room and there are older kids with the young kids and kids were crying yet counselors were doing nothing about it. Long story short the children are not being taken care of here. Save your child from the bullying and lack of supervision !!!!! I will be reporting BSAC to the state as well.
