Overall this place is an absolute hidden gem of Chicago. The dojo itself is a beautiful place to practice and quite possibly one of the best Ive ever seen. But where this place sets itself apart, for me, is the roster of wonderfully talented students and teachers that train there. Im constantly amazed with level of understanding that each teacher has, as well as their unique ability to communicate new ideas theyve been exploring in their own practice. What I learn from this dojo exceeds far beyond what is taught on the mat.Very lucky to have the opportunity to train there and cannot say enough good things about the Chi-Kikai. Im a petite woman with two left feet and zero martial arts background. The prospect of showing up at a Dojo was pretty intimidating. I came to a free Sunday introductory class with my husband and Ive been training now for 6 months. The environment at Chicago Aikikai is so inclusive and encouraging. The Senseis (instructors) do an excellent job of explaining and demonstrating the movements. If youve been on the fence about learning a martial art, I would highly encourage you to check out Chicago Aikikai. You might even see a petite woman throwing a man twice her size.
