I have been coming here 2 years now. Great trainers, great people, great facility. I feel safer walking around the streets of Chicago knowing that I can defend myself.

Ive been attending since December 2013. The instructors are great and are focused on helping you learn. Youll have a very intense workout, but youll be learning some great skill in the process. It isnt for everyone, but I find it very fun and energizing. Stop by, try out a free class and go from there.I give 5 stars because of high teaching quality, friendly and helpful instructors, encouraging community, intense workout, skill building, and it is a lot of fun.

The owner of this location, Jeff Horvitz, has done an excellent job of staffing his school with highly skilled coaches. Their Alpha Krav Maga program is outstanding and I would recommend these classes to ANYONE interested in learning a reality based self-defense that actually works in the streets. If you are looking for a place to train, start here.

I live in Charlotte NC and travel to Chicago somewhat regularly. I train in CLT and decided to try a class while in CHI. I was floored by the Instructors and members of the Krav Academy. First rate school and instruction. Those in class were of the same caliber. If you are looking for practical self defense with great training you must check out the Krav Academy.

I think after years at this location, and 10yrs+ in Krav Maga altogether, I can offer an in-depth, honest review about what this club has sadly become. In short: Avoid.1-Expensive price raise2-Beginners get lost, advanced fighters get bored, Any previous fighting experience not recognized at all3-Despicable management and poor overall communicationIf despite warnings, you still Really want to try this club, try the Northbrook one. Seems overall more serious and, this time, maybe worth the investment. Too far for me, else Id have ditched the FFC location a very long time ago.Longer review:1- The price of the membership has risen, with no improvement in the service. Morning classes have been removed. What isnt told: youll be forced to purchase $20 T-shirts to train (else, youre out), also forced to buy a $60+ Testing uniform clothes or whatever, and $100+ each time you want to Test.2- During training, manager Jeff Horvitz will randomly interrupt training to talk to you. While life stories are valuable, timing is critical; the middle of a session is probably not the best moment. There was never a proper class covering elementary things such as on how to guard correctly.Since you can join at any time during the year, the initial progression is very confusing, and youll learn lots of bad habits that youll have a hard time correcting. Its your responsibility to jump on the bandwagon, which creates situations where someone practices for an entire year but fails to properly defend a simple jab. Anyone would have a hard time swallowing that for the time and money invested here you would not be able to properly defend yourself, while Krav Maga is By Design a discipline where you become street wise in a matter of 2-3 months. You may wonder, with the very expensive testing fee, why test at all? u2028The content you should learn for your safety is locked away until you prove yourself. No previous experience, whether in Krav or not, will be acknowledged by this club. The trainers will see the difference - but youll convince a brick wall easier than this management team. Running a business is about more than simply saying no in various lengthy ways.u2028 Speaking of the way management handles clients…3- Awful management.Ive been treated like a dog by Horvitz for simply contacting trainers, who willingly exchanged phone numbers with me, outside of training, and consider me a friend. Actually, scratch that - Even dogs are treated better. He threatened me to take legal action to forbid me to talk to trainers or students. Id gladly laugh at his ignorance or his immaturity despite being twice my age, but it got me thinking - what sort of sports club calls contacting trainers an unacceptable behavior (verbatim)?I think this is more a monumental ego issue. An example to why, when Im told,u2028 After very careful review with all our trainers, business partners, legal council, and other students, unfortunately, I can not allow your return to our school (verb) OF COURSE Ill contact the aforementioned people to find out whats going on.Reply:u2028I understand you have already contacted other students to let them know what is going on which does not help. This is a private matter and should stay that way. (verb)I have many other sad examples of poor management… Once I got locked inside the club, as FFC was closing its doors while I was still in the changing rooms. The way Horvitz reacted: u2028from a business standpoint, I can not and will not let anyone have a negative effect on my business. When you got locked in the FFC club, we overlooked that incident but I can not put my business at risk. (verb)I Really enjoyed being locked in for 1hr+ and having the cops come pull me out of there. That ones really on me, right?Ill stop here. This club had such potential, its not annoying - just sad. Theres an obvious Midas touch will here, but the hand touching this club, instead of turning it to gold as the legend goes, turns it to s…Anyway, you get the idea.

While recently visiting Chicago, I decided to do some training at Krav Academy. Turned out to be a great experience. The instructors I met there were personable, good teachers and (above all) real experts in Krav Maga.I really liked that they explained the why behind each defense. It really helps me when I understand what Im trying to accomplish and how the technique works.I have trained at Krav Maga Federation in New York and at Krav Maga Worldwide in Connecticut. Im looking forward to training again at Krav Academy the next time Im in Chicago. They are the real deal.
