I attended the sixth grade graduation for Merriman Park Elementary there last night. The huge auditorium was full. Had a e not been sitting directly behind the graduates we probably wouldnt have heard any of the speakers. I was very disappointed in the sound system.....the children speaking could hardly been heard. I am from a small town in Arkansas where we sometimes have limited resources. We do have, however, a sound system in our auditorium that allows persons speaking to be heard. In a school the size of Lake Highlands I would expect better.......

This is the second school I was transferred primarily because it was the closest that a Special Education Program and department in the district. Originally, I was supposed to be at a different school within the district but was instead sent here because of distance. The school district provided us type of students a special bus to ride. That included all the schools Ive been to aside from Berkner and Springridge. After Yale Elementary as a fifth and sixth grader, I spent my seventh year in school at this school. Like most parents who had kids in the program and not willing to drive their kids. They allowed their kids on the bus. Since I was the first kid on the bus, I had to wake around six or seven in the morning and wait on the bus from almost two hours before arriving to Lake Highlands and its because there were other kids in the program they had to pick up.They had to pick up three of my bullies, two genetically disfigured students who cant either breathe, talk or think properly that were confined to wheelchairs and the bus drivers son was also on the bus with us and had to be dropped off a elementary school in the district. One of the three bullies disappeared during the school year and most of my interactions with them mainly were contained in the school at most times and within the early rides of the bus ride back home.My classes were watered down English, Math and Reading and a Behavioral course that amounted towards nothing. I also had a Science and Gym class that were outside the Special Education room. The Special Education Program was also secluded in a barely walked area in the school like most Ive been to.The classroom itself was a defined room of crazy. Two of my bullies, and one normal student with myself included in that list. There was a student in the classroom who kept on wearing the same hoodie, jeans, and shoes everyday and many of us in the classroom thought of him as a crazy and he was the only person I got along with since he didnt act crazy all the time. Gave out good advice while acting like a loony and was probably the student to install Halo Combat Evolved on the school computers in the classroom. The teachers in the classroom was a jack-of-all trades sort of type and a coach. Both of them were pretty decent people. Sociable and understanding and both tried to hang out and give the students a decent experience in the room. The treatment I got for tucking in my t-shirt in my pants gratified to absurd levels. One of the three bullies on the bus was a female student who wasnt in the Special Education Program but was in a different program with the disfigured students. The teachers were capable to handle our problems for the most part, just not the really personal stuff that students had with each other.Like I mentioned above, the bullies were on the same bus as myself. My levels of sanity of slipped quite a lot on the bus rides to the point during the month of February that one of the handicapped students nearly drowned. I showed emotions of extreme happiness over it due to how long it took for them to get off the bus and how much time it would cut. By that time, my addiction to video games and computers were increased to abnormal levels due to the issues and problems occurred here and Springridge Elementary. I would later regret thinking that way a year later and in a different school.School life with other students was non-existence unlike Yale Elementary where I was allowed to be with the other students and be apart of their lives. This school has shown nothing of that and its mainly how much control the district had over out classes and our status of Special Education did not help matters one bit. I registered for a gym class and wasnt given it because of the status I held and one of my bullies in the same classroom as myself was allowed for reason I do not know. The ratings for this school is mainly aimed at the districts policies during the time I was at this school. Staff too.
