Had a negative experience when trying to pause my membership. School of Rock continued charging my card after I had a phone call with Jim, the owner, in late August, and explained that I wanted to pause my membership. Two months later, I checked my credit card statement, and found that I was still getting charged monthly for lessons that I was no longer taking. I called and talked to Jim, and was initially told that it was a software issue, and that the school audits its software every month to make sure that nobody with a paused membership is getting erroneously charged. I asked why the audit had failed to catch my paused membership account being charged, and was then told by Jim that there was no note of my membership status ever having been changed to paused.Jim asked how I had gone about pausing my membership. I had to explain to him that I had asked to pause it on a phone call with HIM two months prior. He said that he didnt remember the call, and said that I should have sent a written request to pause my membership as well. I was frustrated to hear from the exact person that I had asked to pause my membership, who had assured me on our August phone call that it would be paused, that it was my lack of a written request that was responsible for the schools failure to pause my membership. It stretches my belief that the school would fail to reach out to me as they kept charging my card month after month as I no-showed for the lessons that I had believed were paused. I missed a lesson when attending the school before pausing my membership, and received a phone call that night to check on my absence. The idea that I could no-show for five consecutive weeks, as they continued to charge my card for those lessons, without receiving a single call from School of Rock, is hard for me to interpret as an innocent mistake.I was refunded. However, when I called and asked why I had been charged $400 for lessons I hadnt taken, I didnt feel that Jims initial response was apologetic in any way. Just an oh, well refund it. No apology until I communicated how unhappy I was over the bogus charges. If I had not checked my credit card statement, I wouldnt have known I was being charged, and SoR would have continued to siphon hundreds of dollars from me each month. I did not get an apology from the owner regarding his failure to process my pause membership request in our initial phone call. I would warn anyone who thinks theyve paused their membership to double check their credit card statements, and to put their pause of membership in writing.

The Denver School of Rock has developed a program that turns children into rock stars! My son has been in the program for 3 years and has grown into amazing musician! The staff is fantastic, and really cares about the kids growth as players, but the highlight of the program (for me) is the many opportunities for the kids to grace the same stages that have seen the likes of the greatest musicians in history (looking at you Red Rocks). The chance to play live gigs in real theaters for real people will take your child from just learning to rockin and a rollin in no time. As an added bonus, my childs interest in music has grown exponentially! He is pursuing bands with other SoR students hes become friends with, hes playing in his high school Jazz band, and Ive never once had to ask him to practice his instrument. To see my childs love of music grow into a full fledge passion is worth way more than what we pay into the program. Im grateful to Jim and his team for the wonderful coaching they provide. There is no greater feeling as a parent than seeing your child beaming with pride after knowing they just crushed their performance. Rock on School of Rock and THANK YOU!

My daughter loves this program. School of Rock really helps to foster a sense of confidence in these kiddos. They emphasize teamwork and independent learning, while helping the kids along the way. We have loved our experience working with the instructors and kiddos! My daughter has made lasting friendships with others who love music as much as her.

School of Rock Denver has been such a gift to our lives. My son has had lessons, done summer camps and has been in performance groups since he was seven. School of Rock has given him confidence, pushed him outside of his comfort zone, made him a leader, and instilled in him a deep love of music.

Both management and instructors are amazing - they are friendly, responsive, excellent with and loved by the kids, and have awesome ideas for shows that keep the kids excited. Jim Johnson is a fantastic owner and person with whom to work. Brandon at the front desk is capable, happy to help, and just overall does a killer job. My daughter loves working with Graham, as she did with prior instructors, and he also puts on a good show with his students and bands. This is our one and only must-have activity throughout the year! Thanks SOR.

I like the personal care and consideration for each student. When you walk in it feels safe for the kiddos - no adults beyond the office and each teacher has a background check. When you walk in and hear the kids playing music or singing and you hear how good they are, you know they are well taught. Their passion for music and their knowledge of music shows through the kids.

We are really pleased with the instruction and programing at School of Rock, both for our beginning and intermediate children. Additionally, the administration is super helpful and accommodating and I love that theres plenty of space to hang out and work while the kids are in lessons. Great community asset.

My son has been a student here for more than 3 years and now my daughter just joined last fall. Weve had the opportunity to work with a variety of instructors and directors and all have been fantastic. The school is very well-run and helps students reach levels beyond what Ive seen in other programs. The owner (Jim Johnson) and many of the instructors/directors, are well-connected to the Denver music scene and many play in their own bands. They provide real-world experience in a clean age-appropriate environment. Its been awesome to see how the students grow and advance their skills each year and get to know each other (& its a little sad to see when the older ones age out!). The students are well-prepared for their seasonal shows and are a lot of fun to watch. Highly recommend if your kids are interested in playing in an authentic rock band setting and learning how to play well.

The instructors are excellent and the management team is extremely encouraging and very professional. As a novice adult drummer, I feel welcomed by this team. I had tried a number of instructors at other (non-School of Rock) programs and had been disappointed and discouraged. My School of Rock instructor is exceptional! I enjoy every lesson. Thanks for such a great program.

The most entitled, dramatic group of kids Ive ever met. Most of them come from well off families and walk around like they run the earth because of it, and others just come there to meet people to have sex with. Its not a very good program, and hasnt been since the new manager arrived. The House Band is a disgrace, with only half of the members being able to hold a candle to the last generation of House Band kids. School of Rock puts you in a bubble and while it may seem like what your kid is doing is cool, it just stunts growth in the music world. The only people who ever really come out to the School of Rock shows are the parents. If youre thinking of putting your kid in School of Rock, I would advise you to instead have them take lessons there for a while, maybe do one show to learn some band communication skills (although nowadays that hardly even exists at School of Rock and people would much rather just say a sarcastic comment about you) and try to find people to play with. And if you think you might be able to start a band with other School of Rock kids, good luck. School of Rock teaches you to play covers, not write original music, so most School of Rock kids are inept.- A Former Student

What a wonderful place! My 13-yr old daughter is getting so much out of the experience. The cool, gritty, rocker environment is fun and exciting for her, but the professionalism of the staff, management, and programming are what really make it valuable. A great way to keep a kids passion for music going.

My son has been with School of Rock Denver for almost a year now. This has been the best year of his life so far. People ask why we go to Denver when there are closer locations...the answer is that the owners, directors, instructors and students are all such great people that my son said he will do whatever it takes to stay going there. I love that they teach these kids the love for music on so many different levels and the kids have opportunities to continue to grow towards bigger goals.

Our son had a great experience at the School of Rock Camp. The teachers created a safe space for him to learn and have fun. He looked forward to going to camp everyday and learned so much. The concert at the end of the week was amazing and I was so impressed with how quickly the kids and teachers could pull together a concert. Our sons confidence was definitely greater by the end of the week. I would highly recommend this program.

Its been one of our best experiences in Denver. SoR makes learning different kinds of music accessible to musicians of all levels, and the talent level of the staff is impressive. The shows at the end of each season are favorite local venues (ok, theyre bars :) but what better way for kids to learn about the non-glamorous side of rock - load-in/load-out, and setting up. Its been a great experience for our family.

School of Rock gives our daughter the opportunity to express herself in an environment free of judgement or criticism. She has grown in ability and confidence - both in performing on stage and speaking to the crowd. Onstage and offstage, her ownership about being a musician has blossomed. Friends talk with her about starting a band, but School of Rock actually follows through on that committment! Thank you for creating a safe environment where she can thrive!!

I love the staff, I admire the passion and methods for getting kids to not only learn music but appreciate a wide variety of artists. I feel that School of Rock has been a big part of the foundation for helping our kids become the multifaceted people that they are. I recommend the program to every parent that I can and encourage groups to look at booking these artists for shows.

2/2020Were big fans of the School of Rock Denver! Jim works hard to create special opportunities for students they couldnt get anywhere else: sitting in a sound check at the Paramount for Eric Johnson, Dweezil Zappa, & Todd Park Mohr, playing iconic local venues like the Bluebird Theatre & Hard Rock Cafe, and setting up a week-long summer tour through the Colorado mountain towns and New Mexico! Brandon works hard to fit lessons to families schedules and always makes sure make-up lessons are fulfilled. He helps with rehearsals, and is a terrific substitute when instructors cant make a lesson. Ty runs a tight ship, while challenging & inspiring students at every level, beginner through advanced, to work hard & improve their skill set. He takes good care of kids, making sure theyre safe at show venues in town and out on tour. Most of the instructors are gigging musicians and all have a high level of expertise and training to share with students. Weve been amazed by the high-level musicianship of even the youngest students, at every SOR Denver show weve attended, & its obvious something special is happening there!2019The School of Rock Denver makes it worth our time to drive in 73 miles from eastern Colorado, through rush hour traffic (!) for the weekly band practices and lesson! Weve been so impressed with the level of musicianship of the students, as well as the ability of the directors and staff to harness all that talent while making practices both challenging and fun.

School of Rock Denver has been amazing for my family. Ive learned what prog rock is and how to recognize AC/DC from Ozzy Osbourne on the radio, tell a bass from a guitar onstage, and distinguish a Fender from an Ibanez headstock at 20 paces. And oh yeah, my daughter has strengthened her vocals, learned to play guitar and fit into a band, built her stage presence, and made some of her closest friends.
