We loved our tandem flight with Johnny and Hal, unfortunately the wind would not completely cooperate and I was only able to get a small flight very low, but they were very understanding and gave me a full refund. Sometimes that just happens and can’t control nature and they are really kind about it! Definitely recommend

I cant wait to take my first lesson on January 2nd 2021!! I spoke with Jonathan on the phone and he treated me like royalty, giving me time and answering questions during his off hours. I can’t wait to soar like an eagle 🦅Follow up addendum of my experiences with Utah Paragliding School. My 1st lesson was the beginning of January and it was absolutely mind blowing! (In an amazing way.) Hal, again treated me like royalty and really showed me the ropes (no pun intended😂). I actually flew 8 mini flights lasting 20 to 120 seconds.First lessons are generally so packed with information that your mind feels too blown to recollect much detail; but I tell you my 2nd lesson, which was yesterday February 5th, I couldnt believe how much I recalled! Hals patience and excellent teaching skills really came through. This time I was instructed by all 3 instructors at various times including, Jonathan, Hal and Dom. I love Doms comparison of the control/brake lines to a telegraph wire, With a gentle enough hand, you can feel the communication from the wing through the line, giving you real time feedback. Each of the instructors are amazing👳‍♂️🧙👨‍🎓 and bring their own experience and perspective to the lessons. In my 8th flight of the day, I flew for more than 30 minutes continuously at a height of greater than 500 feet; this because of Hals constant radio communication through my shoulder walkie and the perfect wind and thermal conditions. Thank you Utah Paragliding🙏. I will be certified in 8 more wonderful lessons!!

Utah Paragliding is the best! My family was traveling in the Salt Lake City area for vacation. My husband and I had paraglided previously in the Swiss Alps. Now my adult children wanted to experience tandem paragliding for their first time. The problem was my daughter is partially disabled, so I didnt know if she would be able to do it. A month in advance of our vacation, I contacted a different paragliding company (not Utah Paragliding) to inquire if tandem paragliding was even an option for her. I attempted every means of communication with them countless times, but they never even had the courtesy to reply. So I assumed it was a lost cause.Fast forward to vacation. At the last minute, I took a chance and tried a different paragliding company, Utah Paragliding. Wow, I am so glad I did! The owner, Johnathan Jefferies, couldnt have been nicer in trying to accommodate my request. We only had one day left, and he tried his best to make it happen for my kids. Unfortunately, the wind conditions didnt cooperate which was beyond his control. But we were happy to meet Johnathan and appreciate the level of professionalism he provides to his customers. If we are ever back in the area, we will fly with Utah Paragliding.

Hands down the best flying and training experience.I have to say that both Jonathan and Hal went above and beyond to deliver the best flying experience to me starting from picking me up at 2.00 am at the airport till the last day of training. Both Jonathan and Hal focuses on the fundamentals- taking off, landing, kiting/ kite handling and huge emphasis on safety. Unlike the other schools who keep trying to sell you the gear, these guys focus on actual training which was a pleasant relief to me. Within two days of working with Hal I got so much better at kiting that I was able to keep my kite stable for almost 10- 15 mins at any given time.Jonathan made sure that I was not only getting the flying experience from the South Side and North Side but also from other flying sites. We made a trip to West Mountain, the V and even practiced the Tow method. Oh and I forgot to mention that Jonathan never missed a training day even though his wife was due anytime during that week. Incredible work ethic I have to say!! Overall in 9 days I flew from 5 different flights, benched up on north side (2+ hr flight), completed about 45 flights in total and got my P-2 certification.I would highly highly recommend that you take lessons with Jonathan and Hal as they will make sure not only you learn the ropes but also learn to enjoy the sport responsibly. I thoroughly enjoyed my training and flying with Utah Paragliding and cant wait to visit these guys again for some more flying action.Huge Thank You to both Jonathan and Hal!

After talking with some local flying friends and reading many reviews, I enrolled with Utah Paragliding. I was not disappointed! Both these gentlemen have a wonderful teaching style and instill confidence in their students. They also put safety as the highest priority. What really sets them apart are the field trips they take students on. On my 4th lesson I was soaring 1,700 feet above the Randolf valley floor for almost 2 hours! It was amazing. We also took a trip to Strawberry which is an awesome flying site. If you are trying to decide if to do it and who to learn from, look no further. DO IT with Jonathan! :)

Utah Paragliding is simply the best paragliding school in Utah, and definitely one of the top schools in the world in my opinion and many others. The beautiful mountains that are your training grounds offer a picturesque background to complement the world-class instruction that you get from Jonathan and Hal. They are the only school I would recommend for women or people traveling from out of town. You learn immediately how much they care about their students and want help you to progress as quickly as YOU are both ready and able. Jonathan and Hal instill a strong sense of conservatism (this is good) and patience in all their students when teaching best practices, and as a result their students literally come from all over the world to learn at Utah Paragliding. From a cost perspective you cannot beat the value you get here! You are not set on a schedule of two weeks and you are done, unlike other schools. Here you learn at your own pace with Jonathan and he considers you his student for life! When I was ready for my P-3, Jonathan signed me off at no extra cost. Jonathan and Hal are always willing to answer questions and offer insight after you have graduated. Their knowledge and experience is indispensable, additionally anywhere you travel to fly they almost always have a former student that is able to be your local guide. The Utah Paragliding Family is a global one and I am grateful to be apart of it. Thanks Jonathan and Hal for many fun adventures and many more to come!

My husband and I started taking paragliding lessons 4 years ago. We started on a whim, needing something more exciting to do for our anniversary. Being afraid of heights my entire life, I didnt expect to fully engage the sport, that was until our first lesson with Hal. You start off at the bottom of the hill, learning about the equipment, and running to get a feel for the glider when it comes up. Gradually you work up the hill, hiking a little higher each time until that blessed launch lifts you a few feet up in the air. Ill always remember Hal, double checking every bit of equipment as he looks me in the eye with a smile of excitement before that first flight and asks, are you ready? That excitement continues after several successful mini flights from the bottom, until you launch off the top of the south side, and on through spectacular field trips to new, much larger sites. The patience these two have with beginner pilots is remarkable. Always calm and never showing frustration, they really work with you and are truly excited when you succeed. I expressed my fear of heights multiple times to Jonathon, and felt he always spent a little extra time with me in the air on the radio, and on the ground. Ive never met a couple of guys as genuine as Jonathon and Hal. Its so important to choose someone you trust when learning to soar thousands of feet above ground and I felt completely confident and safe with them. Even after completing lessons, we still enjoy flying with these two. We were lucky enough to fly Randolph with them, my highest flight to date at 3,000 feet. Not too shabby for a girl afraid of heights. Thanks guys! Much love and deep respect, Julia

My brother and I went to Utah from the UK to learn Paraglide on a whim - Id never done it before and my brother had done one tandem flight. We were told Utah is the best place to learn so we bit the bullet and went out there, not sure what to expect. From the moment we arrived we couldnt have had a better experience - Jonathan was ridiculously friendly and welcoming, as were all the pilots and other students that used the same flight parks as us. Jonathan got us flying as soon as he could and we were up in the air morning and evening pretty much every day we were there (barring a two day stretch when the weather was inclement - but then we just visited South Utah which was awesome!).Jonathan and Hal are probably two of the best instructors of anything Ive ever been taught by - they are both relaxed and totally sympathetic to your flying ability and risk aversion/lack thereof. Theyll get you flying as soon as youre comfortable with it and push you on to new skills and abilities at a pace thats right for you. Their love for the sport comes across immediately, so its really easy to get into it as much as they are from day one.I honestly couldnt recommend learning with Jonathan enough - even coming from the UK it was cheaper to come out the US and learn there than to learn in Europe. The weather is mostly very reliable so you can fly very regularly, and, as Ive said, the instructors are second to none. And if youre unsure of whether or not Paragliding is for you - do it! As I said I wasnt sure what to expect, but its one of the most amazing things Ive ever done.

The wind was weird the day we went, and 90% of those going tandem couldnt make it up the ridge, but Jonathan (the owner and operator) figured it out and got my son up. In the end, they went higher than everyone else that day, and stayed up about 20 min longer than we paid for. Due to factors out of Jonathans control, taking my son up that day was about the most inconvenient thing he couldve done. But rather than cancel, he kept his commitment and took us without ever mentioning the hassle (we found out afterwards from others). Whats more its very clear that theyre more interested in making sure that you have a good experience and become a competent pilot than they are just making money off you- theyre super friendly and make you feel really more that theyre your friends than just instructors. The atmosphere at point of the mountain is also awesome and by knowing Jonathan and Hal you get to meet a load of great guys who are also learning to fly and really become part of the paragliding community. Learning paragliding from Jonathan and Hal was truly a life gift! We had been recommended to take lessons with Jonathan from several people and we were not disappointed from the stellar reviews we had heard from others. While people with other instructors struggled to take flight, Jonathan has the teaching experience and calm collected instructions to get you in the air. We took 2 separate trips to complete our p2 novice paraglider rating, which means you are certified to fly without an instructor at easier sites. In our first 4 days with marginal conditions we were able fly every day and complete 90% of our p2 rating. When we returned for our second trip with stellar flying conditions, we ended up halfway to our next p3 rating. A rating is only a piece of paper and beyond the certification we felt confident to take on flying on our own and learned skills well beyond the scope of the p2 requirements (like thermal flying). Lessons are paid for per lesson with a cap, so if you go over the cap you are not charged additionally. Many others charge a lump sum for the p2 rating. Learning with Jonathan and Hal also makes you a student for life from two of the best instructors you will ever find. If you want to try paragliding out before learning, Id highly recommend taking a tandem with Jonathon, Hal, or anyone they recommend. The Point of the Mountain is one the best places to learn in the country and well worth the trip a better chance at more consistent flying conditions at a well developed site with many experienced pilots and fantastic club support. Youre close to a major airport and minutes from the interstate. There is also free camping and plenty of amenities close to the south side site. The south point is a morning site with good soaring conditions on a mellow shorter grassy slope. Its the best site to learn. The north side is an afternoon site that is much bigger (and more intimidating) than the south side, but still an excellent beginner site for learning. While paragliding is not inherently a physically demanding sport, it did help when conditions werent perfect to be in good physical shape to hike to the upper bench on the north side for soaring and getting as many flights as possible while learning on the south side.

Review №60

I usually dont take the time to write a review but this time I just had to do it.Well, I just finished my paragliding traning and it was soooo much fun. Its probably one the best things I have done and Ive been on a lots of other adventures lately before this one. But this wouldnt have been possible without the help of Jonathan and Hal who are outstanding paraglider teachers, truly to notch and gifted at teaching and transmitting their knowledge. They are so passionate about what they do that it is actually hard to explain, you have to experience it. On top of that, they are always in a great mood and they are really positive about everything that happens... And believe me stuff happens whenyou learn to paraglide :)But you always feel safe and in great hands. This is because they have so much experience and have taught so many students over the years.I have seen teachers from other schools on the flying site that yelled at their students when they did something no so correct and I was thinking that I surely choose the right school. I dont know anyone that is learning better when being yelled at or stressed more! Certainly not me.Sometimes the weather is not cooperating and the wind is not going to be in the right direction for flying at the Point of Mountain, the main flying site, so other schools will just say sorry we cant fly today but not Jonathan and Hal. They are very proactive and they see these things coming and thats when they say its time for a field trip.Yeah! This is possible because they have so much experience with and knowledge about the weather and the local flying conditions in all the available sites that they will find another great place for everyone to fly at that day. By everyone I mean the current students of course but also the previous graduates that have come back to fly and they know that the UtahParagliding team will rock the day. So they come on these field trips too. These trips are so much fun. Besides the awesome flying that day, the best part of these trips is the next day when you talk to other paragliders and say: so did you fly yesterday? The answer is usually NO because the wind was crappy here.Hehe! Then you got to say: Well we flew and soared for 2h at this other mountain site yesterday and at the end of the day we glided 2000ft down into the valley. And then you just watch they jaw drop. Then you cant stop thinking Im hanging with right crowd :)Anyway, Im rambling but if you want to learn how to paraglide while having tons of fun, this is the school to choose.Ps. There is also no pressure what so ever to buy a new paraglider like with other schools. You do it if you want to do it not because you have to do it. In case you want to, you can get new gear of course but they are also great at finding very good used gear for your level if your budget is more tight.By the way, youre also learning on the latest gear available on the market and they are in fantastic condition. I found out that other schools would want you to buy your own gear fairly quickly no just to get use to it also because their teaching gears are pretty lived in and old, to say the least. At the end of the day, you get what you paid for but when it comes to pricing Jonatan is super fair and has great integrity. You can tell that he loves what hes doing, you can see the passion. Finally the student groups are kept small (I dont honestly know how they do it because they surely have a lot of demand!). So you always feel properly supervised or watched and helped. You always feel safe.Well, not only did have fun learning how to paraglide here but also made many new friends and Im certainly going back to Utah in the near future to fly with these guys...And you can too, just give Jonathan at Utahparagliding a call!
