Fun Works has the best Summer camp program in Durham, NC hands down every year my brother looks forward to all of the new things that he will learn especially concerning S.T.E.M and he loves the field trips he gets to take and the great exposure it gives him to learn new things. Fun Works has been in business for year’s and I have never had any bad experiences with any of the staff or the director they all love their jobs and always put the children first. The integrity and character of the director is unmatched she takes pride in her business in always making sure that the children come first and that they have a safe and loving environment to always learn and grow. She is always very helpful with any questions or concerns that I may have and I love how hands on that she is with her business. I highly recommend Fun Works Summer program you will certainly not be disappointed.

My son (now 11) has participated in Funworks Aftercare and Summer Camp since he was four. He no longer attends Aftercare, but Summer Camp is a mandatory staple in his summer break. The staff cares deeply about each child, disciplines them with love and goes the extra step to ensure that parents are well informed about all aspects of the childs activities. Not to mention that it is the best value out there given the activities offered. Five stars is not enough to give this loving, supportive organization.

We have been clients of Fun Works aftercare and summer camp programs for the last six years. The staff have always been competent and attentive towards the children. The Program Director is overly communicative with both parents and staff with regards to daily programming and care for the children. Her interactions with the children are personal and they love her! The program also offers varied activities and field trips that are both fun and educational for the kids (i.e. Nasher Museum, Wheels Fun Park, etc.). All of the above for an affordable price (at least for our family of 5 ). Did I mention the meals and extended care options?! Definitely a must try for area families!

On the first day of camp (Monday) when I came to pick up my son that afternoon, there was a teenage boy in charge of watching the classroom. (The owners son) When I came into the class to ask for my son he told me that my son was already gone for the day, I checked the sign-out sheet & his dad had not been there to pick him up.I initially started to panic, The young man was just as confused and had no idea where my son was. There was no adult in sight and a room full of kids with this teenager: about 15-16 years old.I told him to call the owner right now, she was not even on sight of the campus, nowhere in the building was she located. She asked me to stay there and she would be right over. I asked him again who was the last adult in charge and where was my kid!? He got up to search for my son & called the last teacher who was “supposedly” in charge on the phone. While she was rumbling over her words, we finally found my son in a dark class room with the door closed, asleep on one of the center couches. He was covered in urine and confused/dazed. The “mother bear” in me was so furious, all I could do was cry and demand to see the director.Charisse (the owner/director) finally arrived after about 10 minutes to speak with me in a classroom privately. She apologized and told me the only comfort she could provide me at that moment was to tell me that Mrs. Gray was now fired. She was shocked that this teacher had put my son in a room alone and clocked out to go home for the day. Mrs. Gray is also a DPS teacher during the school year so this was somehow an even further shock to her. -somehow I know this entire thing is illegal.I was very much upset but I appreciated her sympathy it’s seemed to be genuine. She went on about how the business has been open for years so she would never jeopardize that. She fired her because the teacher put her in a compromising situation, To Charrisse everything mostly seemed to be about the business and less about the fact that my son had been completely lost & forgotten. His dad demanded that I take him out immediately but summer camps are now extremely full as school has been out for about two weeks now. I literally could not miss work; his dad also works 12 hour shifts so we were literally stuck between a rock and a neglect center. The director Charisse asked for another opportunity and very much hesitantly, I did so. One more day to at least get me over the hump and pray that things would get better, that the first day was just a bad coincidence. She assured us that she would have a staff meeting, she had a waiting list of teachers eager to work for her, the hours or operations would change and that this would never happen again. On Tuesday she was there upon drop off but apparently that is the only time she is present. (I realized this very early)When I picked my son up Tuesday evening he was in a room with about two other kids waiting for their parents. This time the class was being monitored by her daughter who is younger than her teenage son! She has to be about 10-11 years old.As soon as we got in the car I noticed a deep “scabbed” like bruise on his left forearm that I did not receive an incident report about. I took a picture and sent it to the director, I asked her about no adults being present. She disregarded the incident & informed me she was in another room talking to a parent; that she was fully aware that her young daughter was watching the kids.In a nutshell...We are withdrawing my son from this camp. She offered a refund for the first week that I had paid & told me services would end today-immediately which is now Wednesday.I have to miss work to try and find a summer camp that I can TRUST and affordable within distance. This was a horrible experience. I hope that you all are very careful with choosing summer camps. There are no adults available to monitor the children early in the mornings nor in the afternoons. My nerves are a wreck & I’m sure my son is traumatized.Thank youfun works.

As a parent and grandparent of children that have used the services of FunWorks, Ive been very pleased with what they offer. I especially appreciate Mrs. McIntosh allowing my children who were attendees at one point, to assist and earn Community Service hours by working with the camp. Thanks Mrs. Mc!

My son who is 9 years old, has attended Fun Works summer camp and afterschool program since he was 4 years old. My 5 year old daughter has attended since age 3 1/2. When I say these kids hate for me to pick them up early, is an understatement. For almost my sons first two years, he would cry when I arrived because he didnt want to leave, despite being there ALL day. Now on most days, my daughter does the same. They truly look forward to going.I have not encountered any serious problems or issues. If anything happens, Im quickly notified by the Director. If I have a question, she responds in a timely manner. I like the fact that this year, there are younger camp counselors, which the kids love. These are not your average young people. They are mature, responsible, and interact well with the kids. I also like that theres a new adult make counselor on board. Thats a plus to me for the young boys.In looking at other summer camps, you cant beat the price value! Breakfast, lunch, off campus activities that you dont have to come out of pocket for, is unheard of at the price point offered.Over the years I can truly say that when I drop my children off, I have a piece of mind knowing that they are cared for. That in itself is priceless. I highly recommend FunWorks!
