Based upon the reviews I am reading, I am certain this review will warrant another snarky response from whomever is responding, however I will be very honest in my review.Based upon the information I was presented by staff at the magnet fair, I was excited to send my children to this school, however that excitement quickly faded. I will admit, as a middle school, it works very well, in fact, much better than most. I would highly recommend the middle school. It is the high school that falls far short. The high school is far behind others in terms of a challenging curriculum. Honors courses have non honors students in them as well. There is little work that is an academic challenge for an honors student. In fact, many of the honors students, mine included, will be leaving the school after this year. Unfortunately, the school population is dominated by students who are very low in academics and attracted only to a small environment. In fact, upon a friend learning where my children attended school, she made the statement that she heard it was a special needs school for children with emotional and academic struggles. She is not wrong in that.If you have a high acheiving student look elsewhere.

Good teachers, some rules are silly especially for the seniors (not leaving campus, eating in the courtyard, dissuading study halls) but I like all the clubs and the teachers clearly care about us. A lot of my teachers have big hearts. A good chunk of my peers are planning on going to college, which is awesome, but I felt like they promoted Duke way to much considering it can cost $500,000 to go there....otherwise good school!

Its hilarious that the REVIEW section is dedicated to children whining about so called unfair treatment. Its apparent from the reviews that some students need to reflect more on themselves before proceeding out into the big world of Google reviews. These kids are at that stage in life where they feel they are never in the wrong, combine that with computers and i guess some feel their best course of action is to post here. Nobody will ever look at the Google reviews and if they do its unlikely they will take it seriously especially since this particular section seems to consist of students complaining and the teachers reassuring them. Ill honor the the school by giving constructive feedback anyway. The teachers here are extremely respectful and more than qualified for the job. All the teachers are willing to reach out to the students and talk over their issues. The environment here is respectful and supportive everyone feels like a family (some that are loved and some that are less than loved). There are several issues with the school. Not with the students or staff but rather with class options. SCS is much smaller than other traditional high schools and the classes definitely suffer. The creative part of the school consists of extremely specific video production, audio production, and digital media. It would be nice to also have several web technology oriented classes to supplement the existing onesAlthough its not really my style sports take a big hit due to the year-round schedule. The school day ends at 4:00 (announcements take a long time so we get out at 4:10 usually). This means that sports clubs are already in session when we get out. Also if you look to the right that lake area looks kinda like a spine and if you look to the top left it looks like a hand

This school is lacking in the AP department. I would like to see more AP classes. The good thing is the math teachers. The food is one thing that I avoid. Also Ignore Simons Comment. Also there are some strange people who go here.

This week I started reading reviews on the School for Creative Studies and let me tell you, they were not happy with this school. I gotta say that I agree with them though and Ill explain. Im not gonna be one of those people and just say this school sucks and not give any justification why so here are my reasons. My first reason is that its not the school, its the staff. I feel like the school does no background check on the teachers at all, they just see a degree and let you work here and from what Ive experienced at this school, the staff can be really petty at times, you know like calling a parent for burping in class, which I believe is a natural way for the body to release acidic gas so whats the problem? Next thing you know well be getting ISS for walking to homeroom in the mornings-- oh wait, thats already happened. Another reason is that the school lacks respect. Last time I checked respect was a mutual thing. So why threaten to suspend young women who wanna show pride in their culture for black history month? Wheres the respect for that persons culture? I mean after all you guys do want us to be ourselves right? I just find it disturbing that this school contradicts itself. You say you dont want us to be afraid to be ourselves yet you threaten to suspend students for showing pride in their heritage, you say you want others beliefs to be respected yet you write students up for not standing for the pledge of allegiance. Students cant even report issues they have about teachers anymore. I swear if I had a nickel for every time I wanted to report something about a teacher and I heard this Oh that doesnt sound right, we wouldnt hire them if they demonstrated said behaviors. So students cant even get help from higher authorities anymore? I feel like Im under a dictatorship with this school. Others might not see it but when I look at this school I just see capitalists exploiting education for a quick buck, not all, just some. I wrote this review just to give a more in-depth view on this School for Creative Dictators. Thank you.

I was so excited to come to this school until it became major trigger for me but staff said I had to come for 2 hours to do my online classes. Which wouldve been fine. Dont have a problem with doing my work I just dont wanna be anywhere on their property and me and mother expressed it numerous times. But, they didnt care so I did stupid stuff to get suspended because I didnt want to be there. It finally took them for me to punch a staff in the mouth for calling me stupid to realize that Im not going to keep going there if it triggers me. Glad Im not there anymore and I havent been so relieved in my life. But I dont recommend this school to anyone so go at your own risk.

Wait a minute, the comment from the owner seems very rude. If someone feels disrespected means they arent respected. For example, if a child came in and was extremely rude to you, you say that they were disrespectful , they say , clearly you define respect differently than them.Wow thanks now I know my child shouldnt go here unless I want a terrible life for them in the future with lots of drama ahead. Just saying dont send your child here, even the owner is rude, plus look at the ratings , arent parents supposed to want the best of their children ... the school of creative studies doesnt support that idea. Im proudly attending Durham School of the Arts, where I feel respected always, never been bullied, and the teachers know how to make you feel respected and if you dont feel respected, they fix it!

I believe this school is not a good fit for mosy kids my age. No one takes in to an account why people are leaving or why people are complaining. All the good teachers are leaving and no one understands why. So many things go on and no one does anything. The cameras that were stolen? Administration never did anything. The teacher and students did. They are too worried about what people are posting on the internet. I am so ready to get out of this school. I dont feel comfortable or anything. The teachers and students are so rude. Not having sports either sucks! Most kids our age play sports or want to be apart of it.

SCS, though in it’s name, is not a creative school. It lacks good teachers, good food, and a good education. Many of the classes are much too easy. I’ve never felt challenged in classes and generally while attending SCS. Though there is no chorus (which I am quite upset about) I feel that SCS is a very accepting school. Across the school you can find signs posted onto the wall, showing support to those students who don’t feel accepted in their home environment. We have club dedicated to the wellbeing of the students that feel unsafe and unaccepted in their own home (GSA/ Gender and Sexuality Alliance). So, though it doesn’t have the best teachers, it is a school that you can feel accepted in. Overall, I would not recommend it as a school, but if it is your only choice, we’ll then, good luck, and I very much hope the you live through it.

The school is trash. Only the 6 graders say that it’s a good school. No discipline for like “big stuff” but u do a simple thing that can be easily solved BAM 💥 your suspended. Punishments are unfair. EX a kid said he was gonna shoot up the school.... he didn’t get punished.... people talking about it online got 10 days. There’s sExUaL prEdaToRs. Administration is slow. And all the good teachers left. It’s real easy to skip, and most of the teachers are real gullible. No sEcuRitY, You can walk out of the school and leave for an hour and get back in without having to go to the main entrance. 40 cameras in the entire school and nobody sees anything cause the lady watching the cameras stays on facebook

The middle school bathrooms are disgusting. the school dont have a punishment rule every teacher is different they hand out a.s.d and i.s.s like stickers the bus is a whole other story very inappropriate things can happen on the bus if the bus driver dont pay attention especially with the high school er another issue with the high school ers is that they dont separate the middle school with the high school ers and students also should be allowed to listen to music during class while working if the song is appropriate because telling us we cant isnt really going to stop anyone

I had a previous review that was saying things that i didnt like about this school. Our teacher got mad at us for leaving bad reviews but i know we should have the freedom decide how are review should be wrote. No one can tell me what i should feel about the subject so he can not tell me how my review should be written. Anyway, i dont like this school because, all the good teachers left, there is always a puddle in the bathroom, the people are really rude and annoying, and you always get in trouble for sharing about things that you are into. I used to like this place in sixth grade but that was just because of the fact that we have computers. Now that i have been here for 3 years i have noticed that they have not done a lot of things that they promised when this school started. Their motto is Think outside the box. I think that this school has done everything except for that. Also if you want to switch a class it takes FOREVER for them to get to it but when i went to the office to officially get my class changed it only took about 5 minutes. But im glad that i did get my class changed so i dont have to be in outdoor education which is pretty much the same thing as PE which i had last semester with the same teacher that i had for outdoor education. That class was mixed with PE kids and Outdoor Education kids. There was about 3 kids in PE and about 20 kids in Outdoor Education. Once or Twice a week he made the outdoor education kids sit on the floor in a tiny hallway while he let the 3 kids in PE/Health sit at the desks in the classroom and do health class. The only thing that i look forward to is the bus ride home with our really nice bus driver. I wish that i didnt go here but i cant wait to go to northern high school next year to get out of this dump. Incase it was unclear i dont recommend that you come to this school unless you are ready for the worst time of your life. Dont expect to be going to any football games on friday night either cause... They aint got none. Good job SCS.. SYKE!EDIT: I dont care about the review part, i want to know why everything else that i have written was not fulfilled and why no one has done anything about it. Especially for the people who are in outdoor education who are not treated like the PE kids. ESPECIALLY sense he makes them cram into a tiny hallway while the PE kids get to stay in the class at the desks 😤

(Keeps getting deleted so Ill keep posting)I dont understand why the person responding to these reviews continues to invalidate peoples opinions just because they dont think highly of the school. To anybody who is considering having their child come to SCS, please look elsewhere. I have been a student here since ninth grade, and I am currently in my eleventh. I personally have not had any issues with administration, although there is a serious issue with student/teacher respect. Weve always been taught to treat people how you want to be treated, and in this school, that no longer applies. Dont get me wrong, there are a few good teachers who genuinely care for their students, and respect that students come from all different walks of life, but can also be serious and strict when needed, which is a good thing. Although I feel that other teachers attempt to go beyond what is in their job description, or do/say things that are just not necessary. As a high schooler, it confuses me why some teachers still continue to line their students up in the hallway before they are allowed entry into the classroom, and why people get suspended for attempting to break up fights, or why belching in class is a reason to suspend someone. I feel as though there is a disconnect between students and staff, because there are multiple occasions where staff have undermined students capabilities and stood in the way of their opportunities, or even literally telling them they cant wait to see them in jail. And yes, this has actually happened. This year, I am taking all honors classes and one AP class, and a few of my honors classes are mixed in with regular ed students, and it is often hard to keep moving forward when you have to also deal with the regular pace. There is another issue that I have with this school, regarding safety. Now if you are a parent is is concerned with your childs safety and well being, please listen up. There is an alternative school attached to SCS, called C.O.P.E. But the issue with this, is that their students are allowed to mix in with our students if they show good behavior. The issue with this, is that one, SCS has a raffle system, so it is unfair for these students to be allowed to come over without going through the same system we all did, two, safety is an issue, because there have been multiple occasions of students from C.O.P.E. having meltdowns and going on violent rages, which causes the school to go into lockdown, and frightens SCSs students. I witnessed one of these meltdowns take place, as a student from C.O.P.E. lashed out on a teacher and began throwing chairs at students, knocking over desks, and screaming, before they were removed from class by an SCS student. The crazy thing about that, is that that same student was put back into one of SCSs classes not even an hour later. This is just one situation, but there have been multiple lockdowns due to similar situations, such as COPE students running around shirtless, or going on rampages in the hallways, causing safety risks and and disrupting education. This is not acceptable at all, and I will be addressing this with the school board, as I am concerned with mine and my peers safety. And from a parent standpoint, I would not allow my child to attend a school where these situations happen. I understand that fights are inevitable in high schools, but SCS did not always have this rep. A lot of the teachers know it as well, and have addressed their concerns to students, but are afraid to take it up with their bosses in fear of losing their jobs. Ive run out of space, I can say that I do like some of the classes and programs this school offers, but the bad things about this school outweigh the good. This is a review is my personal opinion based off the experiences Ive had at this school, so invalidating it and accusing it of Complaining in the reviews is the response it gets, let it go to show how much your opinion is respected. I also recommend seeing some of the other reviews.

Let me describe my background with this school first, to prove my legitimacy. I came to this school in its first year of opening, fresh out of elementary and ready to learn. I went through this school, from 6th grade to 8th as well as Math I, before leaving this year (Ill be going to Riverside High School and attending their CTE program, wish me luck!). While this school has rewarded me with a few great teachers and granted me friendships I wouldnt have otherwise, I have gripes, much like any other person here.I know anecdotal evidence isnt actual evidence, but in my experience, most teachers were mediocre. They would say their lines, teach you the things you needed to be taught. They were doing their job, but at the bare minimum. For example, a history teacher (or social studies, as they like to call it) I had would list things off a PowerPoint presentation and, if asked a question or wanted us to see something, would Google it, then and there. Lowest level of effort put into presenting information and engaging with the class. HOWEVER, there are diamonds in the rough. My sixth grade science teacher, for instance, is a fantastic teacher. He engages with the class, answers questions off of his knowledge on the subject, and even taught us things that we could use in real life (their economics and finance talks really helped me see money and wealth in a different light). One of the biggest things Ive noticed during my time here is the big push on student activism. Pushing towards gender/racial equality, raising money for polio victims in countries that dont have access to vaccines, among many other things. With this, though, brings up an issue I saw toward the end of the year. This issue involved a month (I think it was May) dedicated to girl pride. Honestly, I didnt really care much about that since schools always like to frame girls as inferior to push the necessity of these things, and I stopped giving it attention. However, what ticked me off was an event they held during lunch hours, where girls, and only girls, were allowed to attend. This, even though the event itself means nothing to me, is sexism; barring boys from attending an event due to their sex. That isnt right, no matter how innocent the cause may be.My third point (this is too much text, isnt it?) isnt necessarily the fault of SCS. Rather, its the student body themselves. Many students that I had both in my grade and outside my grade have this deafening sense of entitlement. This entitlement causes classes to be interrupted constantly. An example being a science teacher I had in a separate grade. As much as he tried to teach us, some classmates would constantly find it easy to outburst because the teacher was so unconfident in their abilities to control a rowdy classroom. Another teacher I had would almost actively encourage the outbursts, pausing in the middle of a lecture to add to comments about the latest Drake song or whatever nonsense was prominent at the time.My fourth (and final) point is that the administration doesnt respond well to situations involving teachers. For one, a teacher I had was mediocre yet had a huge ego. According to a test they made us take, my lexile was somewhere in the high 1400s, yet I received a zero on an assignment because I didnt turn it in (spoiler: i turned it in). After complaining to administration, I was ejected from the class for the remainder of the quarter to do an open study; where Im allowed to stay out of that teachers class as long as I do homework and write a paper on a subject. For that quarter, I did all the homework and completed a 13 page paper on the misconception of social injustice in the USA. The last few days of the quarter, the paper that started it all was filled in with a 70 for being late, even though I turned it in as due. (I didnt turn in anything as reparation, which means she had it the whole time).Ive run out of space now, so theres my review. Wish I could add more. :(

I went to the School for Creative studies for sixth through eighth grade, it was an awful experience, the teachers are unfairand biased, and the enviornment is unclean and negative. Forget the fact that we use computers. Most of the students in the school use them inappropriately anyway. The computers dont improve test scores, they dont prepare you for college, and they sure do not make you happy. This is gods honest truth I hate telling people where i go to school. Its embarrassing telling people where I go and the other person is like what is that. Some of the smartest people I knew that went to the school for creative studies left and went to another school and told me that the other schools have a better learning curriculums. Dont let this school give you the illusion that it is a great school by the name. Im not telling you to send your child here or dont send them here but im just giving you my experience.
