My husband & son started almost a year and a half ago, my daughters and I joined in a few months after and we absolutely love it. It is definitely a family affair over there in every way (true to Brazilian culture!). My kids take class and then we do after them- so convenient. Sensei hosts camp during summers and brings out Master Darcio and his sons, aside from his yearly visits to Brazil. How awesome is it that we get yearly visits?!!?! So much respect for this tribe and lineage, you can’t beat this place.

Great place to train and grow as a person. Amazing community from the leaders on down. There is a strong culture of humility and respect within the dojo. If you are new to BJJ or looking to train while in the area, this is definitely the place to go.

This place has changed my life. Sensei Jay is exceptionally humble, and an excellent teacher. Every student I have trained with has had a positive attitude and been willing to help me and the others in the class learn. This place is not your normal school. There are no egos, not attitudes and everyone here is working together to learn, grow and excel in the practice of Jiu Jitsu.I came here with my son several months ago looking for a place where he and I could train together. We started and he loved it. Fast forward to now and my entire family is training including my wife and four daughters. We are at every class we can make it to.Try this place out and you will never look for another school again.

I began training at Darcio Lira about 6 weeks ago. This has been my first experience with any kind of martial arts and I was nervous and starting from scratch. Sensei Jay Coleman, the all of the other leaders and students have been so welcoming and patient to make sure that I am understanding and learning during each class. This dojo is much more than just a gym. It has a sense of family and community that is hard to find. They have inspired my love for BJJ and I will continue to train here for a long time.

I was in Northern, Virginia for the weekend. I gave this academy a call (however it was far from my hotel). The instructor went out of his way to help me find a great place to train even though it was not his. The customer service was impeccable. If i ever am in the area i will definitely train at this venue.

Began training at Darcio Lira in August 2017, no experience with Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Everyone in the gym is very welcoming and encouraging. All 3 of my kids(8yo/11yo/15yo) have joined the junior classes and love the training. My 8yo girl looks foward to every class and we can see the gains in her confidence since starting 3 months ago. Highly recommend Darcio Lira to all of my friends!

I joined the school back in 2018. The Sensei is a patient teacher and always takes the time to educate you on the history of BJJ and the science behind it as well. In addition, he does a great job of breaking down submissions from beginning to end. He has a wealth of knowledge of Martial Arts and has a deep passion for it as well. Everyone in the school learns from each other and egos check out before you walk in. Glad I decide to join.

I looked long and hard for a dojo for my six year old son. For me what set Darcio Lira Jiu Jitsu apart from other schools in the area was the sense of community. I didn’t feel like I was getting a service, I felt like I was becoming a part of a family. The authenticity of what they practice comes from their lineage. Everyone their deeply respects the art of Jiu Jitsu and seeks to help beginners develop the same respect. I was so impressed that I eventually began training there as well with my son.My husband posted this review several months ago on the FB page, we both still stand by it. Sensei Jae has developed something that we have experienced no where else. We respect him, and everything he teaches at Darcio Lira. We love the Darcio Lira family we have gained.

Im from Portland, Oregon, and had 2 weeks of speaking engagements in Fredericksburg. I really wanted to roll, so someone suggested this school. What a great place! I was welcomed as soon as I came through the door. As an older woman, Im a bit of an outlier when it comes to BJJ, but everyone was great to work with and helpful whenever a technique was new to me. If I lived in the area, I would join in a heart beat. so

If you are new to Jiu-Jitsu, now is the time to get started. You absolutely will not regret the decision, regardless of age, skill level, or athletic ability. This is a great dojo with a welcoming environment and awesome sensei. If you have been training for a while and are looking to continue, Darcio Lira is a definitely for you.
