Very nice and family orientated business. Im happy that I chose this place for my daughter. Andrew is such a great teacher. My daughter has Language Impairment and has a hard time learning but he was very patient and understanding. Sadly, I moved away and my daughter can no longer attend but I am very grateful and happy with the outcome. Theyre very friendly, professional, nurturing, and kind. I highly recommend this place!

Coming to Valhalla has been the highlight of my day for over a year and a half. Andrew, the students, the positive energy, and the gym itself all make for a place you can find personal growth that you can’t get just anywhere.I’ve consistently found different kinds of self improvement by training striking, grappling, and FMA here, along with so many others. The way you can improve with your peers here makes for a way to have a better quality of life inside, and outside of the gym. You can’t find that at just any gym.

I would definitely recommend Valhalla to any parent looking for a martial arts class for your child. My daughter started when she was 4 and now she is 8 and still loves coming to Valhalla in the afternoons. Andrew is incredibly patient with the children and finds the perfect balance between teaching and playing. Valhalla is very clean and everyone treats you like family. Its a wonderful atmosphere for children to learn and grow.

This school is amazing and really helps martial artists grow and develop, not only with skill and technique, but mentally as well. Training here has boosted my confidence in my own abilities, and given me the tools to better myself as a person, too. The instructor, Andrew, provided me with these tools when I doubted myself, especially when competing. He is by far one of the best, and I highly recommend anyone wanting to train martial arts to train here.

My sons have attended Muay Thai and BJJ classes at Valhalla for the last 2+ years. The classes are very instructive, fun, and have helped to instill a sense of discipline and dedication in the boys. Since the COVID lockdown ended, they are more excited than ever to get back to the gym and train with Coach Andrew!

I’ve been training here for a year and a half and I really love it. Some schools can be a little cliquey, but I have never experienced that here. All of the students are just great people who want to help you get better and Andrew gives his attention to each student. If you are thinking about training and concerned about your abilities or being judged, you have nothing to worry about here. Andrew and his students want to make every new student comfortable and help them succeed.

A really good place to train.... I have been training here for about 8 months, just entered my first BJJ tournament and did pretty well. The Professor (Andrew) is a great instructor and mentor. The school is clean, everyone is nice and it is a top notch place to train. Being that it is a smaller school, Andrew teaches all the classes, so you are always learning from a black belt who is legit.... I highly recommend you give Valhalla a try if you are looking to start training!

If youre looking for an awesome place to train in the martial arts look no further. This school is the bees knees! Striking, grappling, weapons, you name it they teach it. When I started back in 2014 I felt like a deer in the headlights. But thanks to the expert (and patient) instruction Ive received, I have come a long way. So again, if youre in the market to train martial arts from experienced teachers who really care about seeing there students succeed then Valhalla is the place to be.

I have been attending Valhalla for about 10 months and my experience there has been absolutely amazing. The head of the academy Andrew Heatwole is very knowledgeable in everything he teaches and he is very good at explaining the concepts to all levels of students. The community at the academy is also another highlight. Other members of the classes encourage and help you which creates a very supportive environment. At Valhalla the quality of what you learn is very high. I feel as though I am not only learning, but also getting a very good workout. Sometimes a martial arts gym can feel very exclusive or intimidating, but that is not the case at Valhalla, staff and students are very welcoming and going to Martial Arts has easily become a highlight of my night. If you are considering studying a form of martial arts for any reason, Valhalla is the place to go.

I found an immediate sense of community and friendship with the people at this school!I initially wanted to try out Jiu-jitsu but soon came to love Muay Thai / Savate Kickboxing and (FMA) Filipino Martial Arts. I have come to find out that studying this art is a never-ending pursuit that only becomes intriguing as time moves forward. It’s a way of maintaining physical fitness, flexibility but most importantly, self-defense. Its activity that promotes friendship, a spiritual path, and most of all, it’s simply just a lot of fun!The head instructor, Andrew is patient, highly skilled and uniquely talented with his knowledge of the arts. I have really appreciated Andrew’s patience in helping me focus and develop my skills. The classes are open to all levels of ability and designed to promote personal growth and a sense of fellowship. I would recommend and encourage anyone, regardless of age or physical ability to give it a try — and I can think of no better group of people to pursue this art with than the members of Valhalla Academy of Martial Arts!

The school itself is clean and easy to get to. Andrew is wonderfully knowledgable and professional. He is patient without being coddling, instructive without being condescending, and pushes you when you need to be pushed. Really knows his stuff. Couldnt ask for a better teacher, or a better school. I have been to three different martial arts schools in the past year. I have been taught by many different teaching styles and Andrew Heatwoles style of teaching has been the best by far. He breaks down everything step by step and ensures that each student has a strong grasp on each move/submission that was taught. He is more than willing to stop and answer questions and will also help you if he sees that you are not grasping the move properly. Everytime he steps on the mats you can see how much passion and love he has for each class he teaches. By far the best martial arts school in the area, if not the whole east coast.

I LOVE this place! My best friend and I joined together over six months ago and were complete and total addicts. You cannot find an instructor better than Andrew in the Fredericksburg/Spotsy area -- hes got the experience, passion and, gratefully, the patience. The striking program is totally comprehensive and really fun, as is the weapons self-defense course (Filipino Martial Arts). Everyone else is great, too -- the staff and the other students -- because theyre all friendly and encouraging.I already have and will continue to recommend this place to my friends, family, and random strangers. If all youre looking for is a workout, youll definitely get that here. But if youre dedicated, youll get that and so much more. Valhalla cant be beat!

Had the opportunity to meet the owner, Mr. Andrew Heatwole, at a martial arts venue. Impressed by all that his school has to offer and how he took his time to educate me on the various martial arts styles that he teaches since they are of interest to me. He helped motivate me to encourage the other men and women I work with in the fire department to also take martial arts. We are often the first to respond to an emergency which means we can be exposed to danger even before the police are. Anyone who is any type of emergency responder or in the military should consider some sort of martial arts training so that they can be better prepared for the unknowns that we face on the job. Greatly appreciated learning about Valhalla Academy of Martial Arts in Fredericksburg, meeting Mr. Heatwole, and learning how important martial arts can be not only to personal growth and development, but how it can benefit a person professionally. I highly recommend checking out his school.

I, unfortunately, no longer attend Valhalla due to my cancer diagnosis and requiring chemo off and on for life. The Valhalla community and The Heatwole family provided me with the support I needed during a very difficult time in my life. I wish it had worked out to stay, but my physical condition procluded me from doing so. Valhalla offers 6 month contracts which benefited me due to my health issues not allowing me to continue. Other martial arts schools require 12 month contracts. The owner/head instructors brother, Jason, assists at the school. It was cool to know that even though he was serving the community as a career firefighter, he took an interest in helping out at his brothers business since he also has a passion for martial arts. I found the owner/head instructor, Andrew, to be professional, courteous, helpful, an excellent instructor, detail oriented in his teaching style, patient, outgoing, and highly motivating. He is knowledgeable in multiple martial arts styles, such as, Savate, Muay Thai kickboxing, Bruce Lees Jeet Kune Do, Filipino Martial Arts (Kali, Arnis, Escrima), Combat Submission Wrestling, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. He encouraged taking the classes for fitness, health benefits, self defense, just for fun, and/or for the opportunity to compete based on what your personal preference is. I valued Andrews support and guidance at the time since he is a pediatric cancer survivor and could relate to my situation. I highly recommend Valhalla and the atmosphere that The Heatwole brothers have created. It allows you to become more confident, patient, insightful, and happier which will benefit you in all aspects of your life and make for more positive interactions with those you come across in your every day life.

Valhalla is an important role in my life. Brazilian jiu jitsu jas taught me discipline and the true meaning of sport. I started with having no idea of this incredible sport to an abundace of knowledge amd still learning. My first tournament experience i came home with no medals bit thanks to andrews knowledge and lots of training i am proud to say i come home with gold medals. Most importantly the pride of achieving. Each one has its own memory. No matter how tough of a life you may have. Paradise truly takes place the second you set foot on the mat. Awesome martial arts gym! I love Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Muay Thai, and they offer both of those and more. What I particularly appreciate is the lack of big egos that plague a lot of BJJ and MMA-type gyms. Andrew and Jason are both very methodical and patient martial artists and instructors, yet also push you to encourage development. The positive environment has me leave the gym not only feeling accomplished, but also like I had a good time. My only complaint is that I dont have more discretionary time in my day to attend the gym more regularly.Oh, almost forgot to mention the cleanliness. As someone who has had several bouts with ringworm, I appreciate the clean mats and overall gym cleanliness.

I have been going to Valhalla for almost 8 months and have loved the experience. Andrew is a great teacher, and takes time with everyone. There is not just endless punches and kicks in the Striking class like some schools, but applicable sequences, combos and counters. All of the students are really friendly, and are there to learn not just to kick someone else really hard. I have my brother attending with me, and am constantly recommending it to others. Its affordable, and Andrew makes it easy if you are interested in more than one program (Muay Thai, BJJ, FMA, CSM, etc.).

Ive been enrolled at Valhalla Academy of Martial Arts since late 2014, and have nothing but positive things to say about it. Professor/Coach Andrew Heatwole (owner/head instructor) teaches grappling, striking, and weapons arts, in a way that breaks down sometimes very complex techniques, into easily understood pieces. Andrew and the staff at Valhalla are extremely friendly, and will bend over backwards to help you improve yourself at whatever art you choose to learn. If you show interest/dedication in the style you choose to train in, Andrew will invest in you above and beyond what he has to just to see you improve. Because of this I believe Im farther along in regards to skill than I would have been had I enrolled someplace were that wasnt commonplace. When compared to local competitors cost-wise, Valhallas rates cant be beat. If youre interested in Brazilian Jui-jitsu, Muay Thai/Savate, or Filipino Martial Arts, its absolutely worth checking out.

My son has been going here for a couple of months or so now. It has been great. Mr. Andrew is a GREAT teacher. The programs they do there are phenomenal. I consider myself pretty educated in MMA in general and they are really achieving the goals I wanted for my son. First off I wanted to make sure he was having fun, If he wasnt having fun we werent going to sign up or at worst we would quit - and thanks to the free trial my son got a good taste and in 30 minutes he was ready to sign up. We never looked back. Second was to teach him respect and actually get educated in BJJ ( Brazilian Jiu Jitsu ) and Muay Thai Boxing. In my mind these are the foundation of MMA in its current form. Andrew really looks after his other students as well. If they are training to compete or just coming in for fitness, it’s a pleasure to see how he is with them. The offer a bunch of other classes and if I had time I would be signing myself up.
