We hired Aikido of Charlotte to host a self-defense class for a womens trade organization and it was a hit! The class was easy to follow with great, hands-on practice for real-world self-defense situations. The trainers were knowledgeable and showed us a variety of techniques to stay safe on our own. I really liked how they worked through each technique with all of us until we had mastered it as well. Highly recommend!

I attended the self-defense course offered at Aikido of Charlotte. It was led by knowledge instructors, and assisted by aikido students who were available to assist us with learning the various self defense tactics. I came away feeling more confident in my ability to defend myself appropriately if the need arises, while also being able to identify and diffuse potential situations. I highly recommend this self-defense class.

I learned SO MUCH in the community self-defense class I took at Aikido Charlotte. I was an absolute beginner but still learned so many useful techniques for how to get out of various situations. But the biggest takeaway was the mindset they taught. There were advanced students attending who were there to help the beginners which was so helpful. I plan to go to the next session as well. I highly recommend this whatever your experience level with self-defense.

I attended a one day self defense class here last month and it was a great experience. I learned a lot of helpful techniques and information, but it was also a lot of fun. Everyone there was really nice and helpful, and Sensei Weiner is a great instructor. I would definitely recommend any of his self defense classes and Im sure his aikido classes are just as great.

I attended a self defense class at Aikido of Charlotte this past weekend and I cannot say enough good things. I took a Self-Defense Class at Aikido of Charlotte a few months ago. As a wife to a Police Officer, I know how important it is to be aware of your surroundings and have the skills to protect yourself if needed. The Instructors are experts at what they do! We learned how to assess potentially dangerous situations as well as learned practical self-defense techniques that were easy to learn, practice. While its a serious topic, the instructors made it a fun and enjoyable class - all while learning the skills I needed. I highly recommend this class to everyone!

My boys and I attended Aikido of Charlottes self-defense class recently and we had a great experience! The facility is excellent. Jonathan had many instructors there to make sure everyone had guidance and got hands-on practice. The class was well attended with several repeat visitors and was very informative. Definitely time well spent and a good introduction to self defense for all ages.

Can’t recommend this class more to anyone, especially girls and women. Some potential life saving techniques were taught, demonstrated and practiced during the session. The instructors are extremely experienced and knowledgeable in the area of self-defense and aikido and I feel privileged to have been taught by them. Not just informative but really good fun. Can’t wait for the next class will definitely be back!

Aikido of Charlotte is first class! I sent my daughter and my granddaughter to a self-defense course that they offered. The facility was clean and modern. The staff is knowledgeable and professional as well as good at teaching their craft. It was awesome to see my daughter and granddaughter come home and show us the techniques that they learned to help protect themselves. They were convenient to get to just off of I 77 at exit 23. If you ever feel the need to be able to better protect yourself and your family you have to check them out.

Aikido offers a great self-defense class! I got so much more out of it than I expected. The hands on training was invaluable. The instructors do a great job making you comfortable while being very convincing. People can show you or tell you what to do, but the repeated practice makes all the difference! Highly recommend this class to all women, especially those in college! Its 2 hours of your time that could one day save your life.

As someone who travels to different Aikido dojos, I get to see the great, good and not so good in martial arts environment and instruction.This dojo scores top marks in all categories. The entire building was made specifically to train in, with lost of natural light and great mats (if you know martial arts, you know how important that is!) but the quality of instruction is even better.Whether youre new to the art or have been practicing for decades, I found the instructors here to be very open and receptive. Theres always something to learn from folks who have been in this art 30+ years, and if youre brand new they have an extremely welcoming environment to walk you through the basics. If youre like me, it wont take long in a place like Aikido of Charlotte to decide THIS is the martial art to practice, and this is the place to practice it. Highly recommended!

I recently attended a self defense class led by Sensei Jonathan Weiner, and WOW! The class was informative, engaging and used real life scenarios to drive home how important awareness and technique are to protecting yourself. He uses demonstrations, hands on exercises and repetition to make sure everyone is using the right technique and offers corrections when he sees you struggling. I will definitely be back to hone my skills and learn new techniques in self defense!

I just took Women’s Self Defense class for the first time and I absolutely loved it! I don’t know what took me so long to take this class… I learned so much from it (yes in just one class) and I feel a lot more confident. All instructors are amazing, very informative, helpful, and know all types of different techniques and scenarios that could possibly deal with. I am definitely planning in going to the next one in November as well. This is a class that everyone should take it at least once as it prepares you of how to deal with different possible scenarios. My son has been coming to this dojo since September and absolutely loves it. Their kids classes are a full hour 2x a week, and its great. He is so confident and happy there. I would recommend them to anyone, we are beyond thrilled that we found them!

Ive studied martial arts at various intervals throughout my life. Ive never before found a dojo where the culture was so perfectly meshed with the art itself. There is nothing but a humble enthusiasm from every single instructor and student. Though new to this particular art and my previous training often getting in the way of learning I have never been made to feel anything but encouragement.They are exceedingly competent, and not just in the art itself but perhaps even more importantly in the art of teaching. If you havent had any formal training or just think you know how to defend yourself, youre 95% wrong. I am very pleased with my experience at Aikido of Charlotte. This is not a place that churns out black belts; they want to make sure youre learning effectively at a pace thats appropriate for you as an individual. The sensei work closely with students, ask what you feel you need work on, and follow up on your feedback to see how youre progressing.As a female student Ive found theres an air of comraderie that is different from the hyper aggressive/competitive atmosphere of other martial arts. My sensei and fellow students have given me a feeling of acceptance without making me feel babied or othered. I work with other students every single class and never feel like Im at a disadvantage.Theyre also involved in the wider Aikido community. Our sensei host and attend seminars all over the country and invite sensei from other states to teach at our dojo. It feels much more like a cooperative network and means were invested in the longevity of aikido practice.

I had previously practiced Aikido over 13 years ago while attending university. When I found out about Aikido of Charlotte (and how close I lived to it) I became very excited to resume my Aikido journey. What I have found in Aikido of Charlotte is a dojo that has far exceeded my expectations (and previous experience). Dennis Main Sensei and Jonathan Weiner Sensei have set a comfortable environment to learn and are excellent at recognizing where your experience level is and adjusting their instruction to make sure you are working at the right pace. The dojo is very clean and can accommodate large classes. The students have been my favorite thing about Aikido of Charlotte. Experience levels range from Black Belt down to beginners. Beginner students are encouraged to train with more experienced students who are eager to accommodate that training. They are a warm and welcoming group that I am happy to work with.If you are interested in Aikido and live in the area, you have an incredible opportunity waiting for you at Aikido of Charlotte.
