I think the hair cut price went up $9 and up (still a deal), but everything has been going up in price. I tell them what hairstyle I want and they always come through.Due to the Pandemic hours have been cutTuesday - Friday 8:30 am to 12:00 noon.Make sure you are there early. And you also help students practice .

Its not only a hair salon but its also a place where they teach you how to cut hair like a short trade they teache you had to be a barber if you pass the test you get to get your license.

$5 haircuts, cant beat it. Students aim to please costumers. Picture of hair style is helpful. Street parking. Cash only. Tip the students since youre saving on haircut.

I am satisfied with Royal Hair Institute. They did a great job on my fade and recommend it to anybody trying to learn the trade or get a haircut. Only way learn is with real customers.

As far as haircuts, you get what you pay for. Dont get me wrong, there are some talented barbers in the class, but their stay is limited.Thinking about enrolling? Think again! This is a private school, a business. One lady runs the whole place by herself. Everything from keeping stock, running the front desk, doing paper work, running errands.

Over friendly, if theres someone you particularly like cutting your hair, you can ask for them (provided theyre there). And you can tip them for a well done job, if you so desire. There was one who I like, she was fast, efficient, and really knew her job. I wouldve gone wherever she went to after graduating but, unfortunately, she decided to go to college to persue her study in animation.

I have been going here since 1966 and consider it a very good place for hairstyles of different types. You have to watch for the over eager students not to overdo it otherwise it is a very good experience.

I grew up in the area. This school is a historic building. I had been looking forward to attending school here for years. I hit several road blocks trying to get in. While I was making arrangements to get enrolled, I began to meet people who had nothing good to say about the school. They claimed she didnt teach them anything and they were having trouble passing the licensing test. But I ignored the negativity. I really wanted to attend the school. I understood that the owner was a young Latina, single mom, running the show by herself. I felt like supporting her.But I regret that move from the pit of my stomach! On the first day, I realized the rumors were true. She doesnt teach. I already have a cosmetology licence and had already invested 1000 hours of barber school somewhere else. This school was the only school (to my knowledge) that offered a cross over program where I should have finished my barber class in 200 hours. But in the short time I was there, I realized this school is a sham. She charges more than nearby, updated schools. The kits are given in pieces and its highly likely you wont get everything until your close to graduating. The kits consist of the cheapest tools that you probably wont use in the workplace. She does not give you a case or box to carry your stuff in. She plays favorites, awarding her faves with nice tools and extra equipment that isnt even necessary in a barbershop. Her people skills are horrendous! Shes rude, controlling, insecure, and a little paranoid. She has her brother follow students after school to report to her who hangs out with who and what they do after school. Her elderly mother follows you around in the school, popping her head in as you step out of the bathroom, checking on you when you wash your hands, spying on you when you open your locker. Any time you look in a mirror, one of them is staring right back at you.Her classroom, where shes supposed to teach, hadnt been used in three months. She hated me from day one when she realized other students were coming to me for help. She took me into the classroom to discuss her concerns, and the odor of cat urin and moth balls slapped me in the face when she opened the door. She feels the need to interrogate students about other students. She uses people to display her authority. She doesnt have students practice properly to be ready for the licensing test. She cuts corners everywhere to save money and in the end, the students come out with very little skills, questioning their knowledge, and struggling to pass the test. She never teaches students how to mix hair color, how to look for diseases and disorders, how to disinfect tools, not even one lesson on how to use clippers, so you may contract some strange skin disease while getting a haircut there. When I brought all this to her attention, I got kicked out. There are other schools nearby with plush furnishings, that charge less and teach more. You can also enroll in an apprentice program and get paid while you learn. This place is a business and shes going to cut corners as much as possible so she can pay for her luxuries on your dime.Public school provides a way better education and equipment. You can also check out Trade Tech, Abraham Friedman Occupational Center, Trade School on Shatto Pl.,Cosmetica Latina in Downey, ZMS in highland park, Paul Mitchell in Pasadena, or even the Alhambra Beauty College. But dont waste your time here!

READ FIRST: If you are looking to enroll, this is by far the WORST school. First of all, there is no registration office nor financial aid office. One lady handles everything and she is always busy and extremely rude. She said to call back at certain times which i did multiple times and she was STILL BUSY. I called multiple days and every time i called, she was busy. Even showed up in person..yup..you guessed it..she was STILL BUSY and said she couldnt help me and immediately went back to working. Being the business owner and adult she was, it really surprised me that she had NO COMMUNICATION SKILLS whatsoever. Couldnt even tell me to scehdule an appointment when she was available. Did i mention shes also the teacher. And i think its family operated because she has a very elderly woman who doesnt even speak english answer the phone (her mom). Very dirty/unmaintained/ghetto school. If i could give no stars as a review, i would. Friends i know who have attented, left because they said the teacher doesnt teach well, waste of money, and that people who have stayed, failed state board. Very low passing rate.

Choosing this school was the best decision I made. Almost 15 years after I graduated from that institution, where they instilled my passion in this profession and which I love more and more. The teacher and owner, was a great influence for everyone. Very committed to all of us.
