Hostile instructors, new comers are NOT welcome. There are plenty of gyms that welcome new members with open arms. Dont waste your time coming here.Edit:Given that they never answer their phone. I decided to stop by to ask questions about their membership. I arrived 10 min early before class started, wearing a mask, and keeping my distance. However, I was met by a hostile instructor who refused to give me his name and answer any of my questions. I left when asked to. The instructor struck me as narcissistic and egotistical. I been training for almost 7 years now, and I have never met someone as hostile as this man. He thinks that his belt entitles him to treat others as he pleases. That very same day I attended a different gym where I was welcome and even offered a free intro class. After all that, if you still want to train here, good luck.

Sorry but I was going to go here and decided this place sucks and that no one here knows even the most basic of fighting skills...

I cant think of anything negative about my experience training under Nathan and Jason at villians. The lessons are detailed but not verbose. The space is clean, neat, and aesthetically awesome. Since coming to villains Ive become happier in all other aspects of my life. The environment is excepting, compotive, and supportive. Everyone in the gym is humble and (honestly) good people.

Excellent BJJ gym with top level instruction. Honestly if youre just casually into BJJ or compete regularly, this is the right place to train. The folks are super friendly and welcoming here (speaking as a newcomer from another gym), and the instructors are really invested in the students.Mats are beautiful!

They should put that they dont accept drop-ins on their website to avoid wasting peoples timeedit: the owners response to this is completely wrong, and it is not clearly indicated on their website that they dont accept drop-ins. it says they offer a free intro class to LA residents, but nothing about drop-ins being off-limitsto the owner: if you dont want 1-star reviews, dont set up your business to waste peoples time. the review stays and is completely deserved. your fake, over-the-top positive vibes dont make up for wasting my evening. aloha.

After floating around different schools with the idea of signing up long term, Ive managed to stumble onto the perfect place for my girlfriend and I. Nathan and Jason are great instructors that make you feel welcome and help you establish fundamentals that will last you until the end of your jiu jitsu journey. The facility is very clean and the beautiful white mats are treated constantly to keep the users safe from ringworm or any other gross skin bacteria. The new schedule lets you train gi or no gi daily, the teammates that usually attend here are amazing people too. Stop by and check out if this place is for you.

Just fun technical jiu jitsu. Members are here to learn and train and instructors are here to help you on your journey. Egos are parked outside and the community is welcoming and courteous to all. Jaison and Nathan are jiu jitsu machines and extremely technical in their instruction. Hopefully this will be my home for years to come.

Villains Jiu Jitsu is a new Brazilian Jiu Jitsu academy in the heart of Los Angeles on the boarder of DTLA and Lincoln Heights. The facility itself is an expansive industrial warehouse space outfitted with modern minimalist decor, life-affirming succulents :P, and most importantly a huge white mat. As UFC legend Demian Maias flagship school, Villians provides introductory instruction in self defense as well as advanced classes in modern Jiu Jitsu-- adhering to Maias philosophy of Jiu Jitsu for all levels and all body types. The instructors, Nathan and Jason, come from decorated competitive pedigrees. It is their methodology of teaching modern advanced techniques in combination with their philosophy of teaching techniques in epistemological clusters that makes the learning experience not only fulfilling but efficient. Another point of distinction; this gym unlike most others is 50% gi and 50% no gi. The gym culture is quite open and welcoming from the instructors down to the students. Though the academy is brand new the student body is made up of a diverse group from white belts to black belts-- some of whom are pursing tournament competition. On a final note, it should be pointed out that this academy does a great job of keeping very clean. Theyre sticklers about their hygiene policy and even go so far as to clean their beautiful white mats with an industrial scrubbing machine before and after each class.
