This school has been a second home to us. The administrative staff and teachers are all amazing and we are so grateful for them! My daughter has thrived here and now my son is here. We love it and cant say enough good things.

My son attends this school. The school is great. The office staff is nice and helpful. When I have an concern regarding any particular reason , I send and email( if I cant walk to the school) and his teacher replies immediately. Since racial issues always come up let me tell you that we are hispanic family and never felt out of place or left out due to our ethnicity. We are so grateful to be part of this school.

I am sorry but lol to all the one-star reviews. Yes, the school is fenced off, as many of the LA schools, unfortunately. It shares the campus with a middle school, so thats a standard thing. The staff and kids are diverse and the community is very welcoming. They have kids from families who could easily afford private schools studying and playing together with kids who qualify for free lunches and no one, no one ever felt the difference. On the opposite, they make sure that kids do not feel left out if they do not have funds - everyone is included in field trips, receives a year book, etc., no matter if they paid or not. When 5th graders went on overnight trip last year, it was specifically said that everyone would be accommodated, notwithstanding their ability to pay. Twenty-two kids in a class, with a full-time TA, music, art, Spanish. The teachers are VERY responsive - immediate response to emails, calls, and requests for a meeting.

We love this school and all of the staff which we always find friendly and helpful. They may not have the best campus or a fabulous playground but they have so much more. They teach the kids about being peacemakers and they also have a great art and PE program that you won’t find any other place. We previously went to a fancy private school down the street for 3 years and we started this year at a LAUSD, West Hollywood 10 out of 10 elementary before switching to CWC in December due to LAUSD’s lack of friendliness, behavior and social emotional teaching. We are so happy here and my son loves it. The special ed is also fabulous as well. Our needs are always addressed and met in a kind and meaningful way, which is really hard to find these days. We couldn’t be happier. Go CWC!

Another of those private charter (but all too willing to accept public funds) scams that people with delusions of public sector evil can jump into the jaws of! This is where all the tin foil hat wearing conspiracy nuts who think Obama is out to get them work. Is all the concrete, bars, barbwire and, bullet proof glass meant to keep your kids in or any form of rationality out?

The first thing I noticed at the Citizens of The World Charter School off of Sunset was the 10 foot fence with razor ribbon on top and much of it walled off. It looks more like a prison than a school and, a culture of fear appears to be cultivated. The mainly white Teachers and Staff do their best not to make eye contact with any non-whites in the area (news flash many of the non-whites in Hollywood hold Advanced degrees) on their way to work, getting hurriedly past the armored security door as if pursued by a mob of cannibalistic zombies (non-whites). A few harmless homeless people have set up residence in the area that I periodically pass out doughnuts to, when I consulted the police on violent crime statistics in the area I got none in the past 20 years. The West Hollywood community has a number of highly qualified individuals (including those who passed the CBEST and hold Teaching Credentials) who apply for positions but Citizens of The World Charter School remains fearful of them.

Lovely school with caring, nurturing teachers and staff. My kids love this school and have grown so much as students and citizens of the world.

Bullet proof glass? Fear of black and brown people? Thankfully, the security features are what they are given the neighborhood. One of mine used to be a wanderer, so Im thankful for the fence thats good for keeping kids in, and well make no apologies for the architecture. In fact, show me a Kindergarten without a fence and I wouldnt let my other son in the door. CWC was founded on 40% minority and 40% low income, and the effect has been a cultivated culture ingrained with diversity. In fact, weve recently added neuro-diversity to the spectrum of our vocabulary, if you catch my drift. The CWC community is all about inclusion and weve worked hard to bridge the cultural and income divides. Even our gala fundraiser had $15 tickets for parents with kids on the low-income lunch. Did I bid on the family vacation to Hawaii? No, but it was an awesome freakin time with Wolfgang Puck catering, great DJ...and the dance floor was proof that the staff is not all white. In fact, our new VP is a sista with a Harvard degree. Hows that for tin foil hats?
