Ray Hayward has dedicated his life to the practice and teaching of Tai Chi and it shows in all aspects (physical, mental, historical or philosophical) of his instruction. Ask him anything! There are students at his school whove been with him over twenty years. The twin cities is lucky to have teaching of this caliber in any art. I never hesitate to recommend the Mindful Motion Tai Chi Academy to anyone.

I have been Sifu Hayward student for about the last 16 years. Instruction there has been good for my body, It has improved my patience , helped me to relax, and given me a chance to learn truly powerful and intense strategies of martial arts. What is offered is extraordinarily rare knowledge taught by a Master of 46 years of experience who has been a long term student if several peerless and famed of Masters. Instruction by Sifu Hayward is not only from a skilled practitioner but he is also a skilled, patient and gentle teacher. He has taught me by example that no matter what you know you should never stop learning..

Classes are available for beginners, intermediate, and advanced students. The emphasis is on learning and doing and improving. If you want to learn authentic Tai Chi, Hsing-Yi or Bagua from a highly skilled teacher who has authentic verfiyable lineage, there is no better place. They teach these styles as art, with solo, two person, weapons, and self defense however this is not a fighting school there is no violence, most students are older, and students are not injured. A great place with a welcoming environment to learn, practice and improve yourself.

I switched to Mindful Motion Tai-Chi Academy after studying tai-chi and qigong elsewhere for three months -- just long enough to know I wanted to stick with it long-term and should find the best possible teacher to study with. Sifu Ray Hayward has spent more than forty years mastering tai-chi, qigong, and several related Chinese martial arts forms. The forms he teaches were transmitted to him by renowned Yang-style masters T.T. Liang and Wai Lun Choi. (If you watch the Tai-Chi 72-Movement Medium Form video on the website, youll see the foundational form he teaches and witness how perfectly he embodies it.) Sifu Ray has a gentle and patient style of teaching, with close attention to details and to explaining the principles involved. Disciples who have studied with him for decades are also excellent teachers who will help you greatly. You may feel slightly intimidated at first as a beginner since youll be integrated into the main class, but youll find the atmosphere is completely welcoming and supportive. Go here if you want to take a deep plunge into tai-chi and gradually realize all its extraordinary benefits for both physical and mental health.

Ill admit that I already left a five star review from my other Gmail account, so this is a repeat. But if youre reading this, you can rest assured that Sifu Ray is a terrific teacher with a wealth of knowledge that you will start to use in all aspects of your life. I have been doing Tai chi for ten years now and Sifu Ray has been my teacher for the last four. Ive learned so much from him - Tai chi principles, various forms both short and long, slow and fast, sword, cane and saber forms - and theres still more and more to discover. A great place to learn and grow and there are many established students who are on hand to help as well.

A treasure of the Twin Cities, and one of the best Tai Chi studios in the country. Having grown up in San Francisco amongst daily Tai Chi practitioners, and then living in New York City with access to some of the best teachers of the 20th century, I can vouch for the world class quality of Sifu Ray Haywards approach to teaching and his mastery of many related disciplines - and his sense of humor. You could spend a lifetime practicing here and never would the well run dry. Plus its very welcoming, friendly, and relaxing! Many students have been involved with Sifu Ray for decades, and their level of fitness and balance, good character and humor, are testaments to the quality of the teaching and the validity of ongoing practice.
