I graduated from this University. It is one of the top ranked research institutions in the country. Their pharmacy school is ranked second in the nation and believe me they deserve it. Excellent instructors and facilities. You are treated with respect by your professors. The campus is beautiful and the student body friendly. Minneapolis has a reputation as the biggest small town youll ever know. Large metropolitan area but the people are friendly and down to earth. I love this place.

At the University of Minnesota, you will find that you have all the resources to make your college experience completely worthwhile and have a huge return on investment. However, the size and scope of the campus is overwhelming and can cause many people to believe they are just part of a degree machine. If you are willing to put in effort to build relationships with professors, make use of the countless research opportunities, and capitalize on the fact that the University of Minnesota is one of the only flagship universities with a major metropolitan area in its backyard, then this school is the place to be. I recommend it to anyone.

This is definitely a great place to get an education and experience. You will need some money or a open to significant debt, but if you can find a balance between the education and experience, this is a fantastic institution of accredited learning.

If you dont get weeded out in your first two years, you will enjoy the upper level courses. The best years were in junior and senior years where I interacted closely with accomplished faculty and their research. They dont give away degrees at this school. The University demands that you be resourceful and if you are used to being babied you will not survive this school or life, for that matter. I have the U of MN to thank for giving me the career I have.

I love this school, the campus is great, the transportation system is stellar, but it is missing one thing. For some reason, the University shuts down the air conditioning in the residence halls. My room is currently hotter than Satans living room. My window is open, my fan is on, the door is open, and yet I still cant keep my chocolate from melting. Sure it tastes better melted, but it is a heck of a lot messier that way. Just once do I want to rest my head on my pillow after a long day of classes and other joyous activities without sweating. It is gross. I just want my chocolate to not melt.. I like chocolate... a lot.

The University of Minnesota claims to be higher quality and more inclusive when in reality that isn’t the case for students with disabilities. The Disability Office will not advocate for you. If you are planning on coming to school here with a mobility limitation, don’t.

Amazing students and buildings. Good professors (except when they decide not to show up and just let a grad student teach 95% of the time, which makes learning VERY difficult if English isnt their first language). Very nice use of green/open space. Parking can be a problem, so better to use mass transit.

The UMN Twin Cities is one of the best universities in the world. The main campus is located just a couple of miles away from downtown Minneapolis and it is so beautiful. It is also considered a “Public Ivy.” If you are hungry for knowledge and motivated you will get all the resources you need to grow at this wonderful university. Several of its academic programs are ranked highly in the US.The university has light rail service which in fact is modern and sophisticated. As a result, commute to campus is convenient from both downtown Minneapolis and St. Paul.

Dont pick a useless major otherwise it is a huge waste. Campus is nice in the summer and BRUTAL in the winter. Commuter students are going to have a hard time with traffic and parking. Be prepared to walk a lot since the campus is spread out.

I have been there for non-educational visit, I have been very impressed by the University Of Minnesota in different ways. First of all it is very very big Campus. If I were a Student, I would definitely go there and see before making last decision. Another thing it is one of the best University in the USA for educational success you can go ahead and search about it I am pretty sure youll be impressed. Last thing I want to mention about is Culture. There are different many students from different Nations which makes it perfect in my point if view. If you have mix-culture then youll reach success easier than others.

Universities are a place to learn, people pay money to be taught material relevant to their future careers. Classes now are polluted with politics, teachers lording over their students opinions, and whiny so called feminists. Get politics out of the classroom and teach people about what their class is about.

Do your research on employable fields, obviously, and go from there. The size of the U allows anonymity for those who want it, or intensely personal experiences through volunteering, groups, serving on boards, research opportunities, etc. I did all of those things while doing my undergrad at the U, and went on to happily accept an offer to do grad school there as well. I worked my butt off, but did end up landing an amazing job. I will be paying them appalling amounts of money well into my mid-to-late 40s, but that problem extends far beyond this one school. I have some of my best friends and memories from the U, as well as a great education. Highly recommended.

All other things being fairly standard in terms of engineering programs at state schools, Ive been very disappointed by the limited access to tools and lab space. All students at Century Community College have regular access to lathes, CNC mills, CNC router, 3D printers, laser cutters, and more. I pay twice as much, but its several tomes more difficult to gain access to the tools I need to learn and be familiar with as an Engineer.

Transferred out due to poor quality of many courses. Felt like I was just another sheep in the classroom, and was tired of constant pushing of liberal agendas by my professors. Oh and dont even bother trying to get into the professors office hours during midterm and finals week...there are literally lines. Also, printing was not free even though I paid almost 20K tuition a year..its a no from me friends. Save your time and money. The school is too hyped up for what it is.

There are a lot of great things about the UMN (e.g. large variety of departments and programs), but there are also some very mediocre aspects. My best advice is to do your homework. Look into the program youre interested in very closely. In the end, regardless of the quality of the institution, its up to you to make it a learning experience for yourself....although it certainly makes a difference on your experience whether or not you have the institutional support.

UMN is a good place for PHD students. However, many of the undergraduate programs here suck. Chemistry and programs in Carlson are good though. If you wanna go to programs not mentioned above, AVOID UMN. The school now is trying to enroll much more undergrad students than its resource can bear so that they can get more money. I got many friends in Statistics and they told me they need to get permission numbers for getting into a stat course even the course has no students registered. Usually, above one hundred of students try to get in one stat course that only allows for 30 students to register. The faculties for undergraduate office are also trying to keep students in the U by giving more harsh requirements on Liberal education. Remember that more time you spends here, more they can get from your tuition. Although some of the professors care about undergrads, most of them do not, and some of the math and statistics courses are in very bad qualities. When I first started my studies here, I was excited about UMN. After 3 years, even I got offers from good graduate schools, I felt very disappointed about the undergrad education here. Dont be fooled by their academic rankings as that are only for PHD. Overall, the resource for undergraduate math, statistics and economy students is very pathetic.

U of M is so big that its a puppy mill education. You will not get a shred of personal attention for your development. U of M supplies a list of class you take, you take them, they give you diploma. There arent any other frills, thats it.Take your generals at a community college and save money, because theyre nothing special, you get a TA (Hurray right? You get some student teaching you).If you go here, take the Study Abroad option. At least then you can get some real professors who have to stay on top of things in the field youre entering.

If I were to do it all over again, and didnt manage to get into a good masters programme in my field, I would have gone to another school. LSE, Oxford, Michigan, whatever. If you go to this school for chemical engineering or other small academic programmes, you should be good, as you will mostly be dealing real faculty members. However, for the vast majority of the academic programmes, you will likely get a graduate student, sometimes even (yikes!) an undergraduate teaching you. Midterm and test score averages in the mid 50s are not uncommon either, nor should they come as a surprise when the quality of education is taken into consideration. For a school with an economics department in the global top 15, the way that they treat their undergraduates is an embarrassment, and academic advisors are not much better, as they basically wont care if you cant get into your classes that you need to graduate on time.Heck, they wont even have professors teach 90% of their economics classes. Im glad I at least didnt pay out of pocket to attend this university. I do feel sorry for my fellow students, though.

For those thinking about either of these majors, trying taking a class with Dr. Ajay Skaria whose an expert in postcolonial theory/subaltern studies. Id also recommend Dr. Kathleen Collins who is a regional expert in Islamism, especially in Central Asia. I learned an incredible amount from her 3410 class.
