ChessNYC is fantastic. My child started learning through a partnership with the school and has continued with the club’s coaches and tournament. She lives for their weekly tournaments, loves to practice the chess exercises (to the point of having to chase to bed), and it’s really given a sense of true accomplishment. Keep up the great work Michael and team.

Really liked the Play N Go event. Well organized with a seamless flow of games. The idea of the open play area is great, both for parents and the tournament team. Planning to come back.

We absolutely love Chess NYC. Its the only program in the city that hosts chess meets on the weekend that allows kids to practice for larger tournaments. The staff is always friendly and knows each individual child and Michael is a truly wonderful coach. He has high standards for the kids, he believes that they can think deeply and achieve their best chess in each and every game. Michael makes this a fun playing environment and the kids love to see their friends every weekend. If you are considering learning chess or playing in games, this is a great way to participate!

Our son loves this camp and seems to be having a lot of fun and playing a lot of chess and that is good enough for me.I do think that if we were more type-A parents we would have problems with the camp as there isnt a lot of communication, counselors turn over day to day and pickup is chaotic. I also am not convinced there is a lot of chess education happening as my son talks more about the water gun fights and the movies he watches at lunch than new opening strategies or narratives of victories.

Chess NYC is the best place to learn and play Chess in NYC! My son has been attending Play & Go on Sundays for 2 years and to say that our experience has only been positive is an understatement. Mike Propper takes the time to get to know all of his regular players & nurtures and encourages them. My son has grown in skill, confidence and love of the game since he started attending PS. 183 on Sundays. They are not in it for the money - some weeks Ive had to chase them down to pay them! My son loves to spend Sundays at PS. 183 with Mike and the gang, its our home away from home :-) This year we are planning on attending the Chess Nationals for the first time - thanks for the encouragement Mike!

So far so good! We got a few private lessons from Chess NYC for our 7 year old before he started chess camp this summer, also at Chess NYC. They make chess fun for kids and have been both awesome and professional. I am sure our child will continue throughout the year in some of their various programs. I highly recommend Chess NYC

Chess NYC has been my son’s gateway to the world of chess. At its camps and classes, expert teachers and grandmasters have fostered his interest in the strategic and analytical elements of the game. The tournaments provide him with an excellent opportunity to practice his new skills and to get to know other kids from across the city who share his love for chess. Its after school programs are a great way for young players to get started on their chess journey or to improve their existing skills. Once students start participating in any of its programs or tournaments, they become part of the Chess NYC family. This is evident at every tournament, where the staff gets to know each participant and celebrates equally the efforts and accomplishments of kids at all levels.I strongly recommend Chess NYC to anyone who wants to improve at chess!

Incredible, if your child not win section 1 he dont get any prize. The organizer must think that a trophy or medal have a very low cost and the child will be happy.

Having gone through ChessNYC training as a student for years, I can assure all a unforgettable experience! Involvement in such a friendly, serious, yet fun atmosphere was what made it so enjoyable.Everyone should go check out those Weekly Play n Go tournaments. They’re something you don’t wanna miss out on!

Great format! This is definitely better than the full day tourneys. The worst I can say is theyre more forgiving about late check-ins, so despite the oversubscribed event they got started a bit later than expected... but i was still out before 2pm. We will participate again.

Chess NYC really has an impact on kids. Michael and the coaches know each and every kid by their name and how to teach them so each individual kid will have a solid understanding of chess. This company is really all about the kids, which is so great to see! Keep up the great work Chess NYC!

We recently attended the $10,000 challenge and it was brilliant. Winners received a big fat check, literally! Michael and his team know exactly how to interest, inspire and motivate the future masters of chess. Not by winning the money but by being their best selves. He emphasizes that you don’t have to be perfect but when you show up, you have to play your best. Grayson learns that winning is as part of losing and losing is a part of winning. Learning this at an early age and learning to be a humble winner and teachable loser are valuable lessons. Cheers to Michael and his team. They have imparted lifelong skills that these children will treasure forever.

Chess NYC has got to be the ultimate chess experience for kids of all ages in New York. The coaches are very passionate about chess and get to know your kids by name, whether the kids are attending the camps or the weekly tournaments. They make you feel like part of the Chess NYC family. The kids all get to know each other, having fun as well as learning and improving their game. There is a lot of flexibility - kids can play for fun and/or competitively - its all down to the individual child. Every Sunday tournament is like a family day-out for us and its so stress-free for both parents and the children! Weve tried other tournaments in the City in the past that dont have that same friendly atmosphere that seems unique to the Chess NYC community. The Chess camp is a blast also, with a great combination of both chess coaching and outdoor fun. I couldnt recommend them highly enough! Oh, and their after-school programs are so varied - theres a suitable class for every age and level of ability, from beginner right up to and including grandmaster classes. All in all, Chess NYC is the best!

The coolest Chess organization I have ever seen. Weekly play and go tournaments helped many kid players to improve chess skills and become Champion in other chess tournaments (like Greater NY scholastic Chess Championship and other big events). Also they have probably one of the best camp in NY. Once I brought my daughter to chess camp, she even didnt know how to move pieces, she was so happy to be there, learned there a lot (not even to move pieces also some basic rules in chess in her first camp day). She always asks me to bring her to chess camp :)

I was looking around for a coach to help with me as I am a beginner looking to develop my game before I travel back to Eastern Europe and found this place through a recommendation of a knowledgeable friend in this area. It was a nice and relaxed atmosphere. Very chill and I would highly recommend looking into the programs and services that they offer.

My 6 year old son has been enrolled in after-school chess with Chess NYC since he was a kindergartner. (They also teach chess in the classroom during the day.) He’s now in first grade and loves the coaches (especially coach Rebecca) and the game. The whole program is terrific and everyone has the right intentions. We’ve gone to tournaments with Chess NYC as well as done the play n go’s. He tried the half-day camp today at ps 183 and had a great time! We will definitely do it again this summer.

My kids love doing day camp at Chess NYC. Its not too intensely focused on only chess (they also play other games, play in the park, sometimes watch a movie, and do other fun kid activities), making it a good, laid back environment for them. The staff and counselors are all wonderful - very caring and also very knowledgeable about chess!

Teachers here are nice but the director of this program doesnt like any honest feedback and will send you hate email because he doesnt like to hear how to improve. There are other better chess organizations out there.(Michael Propper you don’t ‘uninvite’ people for being honest. You take it as a learning experience!)

There are a seemingly infinite amount of chess options in NYC and we have tried out a high percentage of them. The one thing that separates Chess NYC from the others is at the top. Michael Propper doesnt want to just provide a place for kids to play, he truly cares about helping them grow as chess players and people. Every tournament he talks to the kids beforehand about expectations and what they need to do to be successful. At the end of each tournament he provides a free lesson from a grandmaster for those who want to parttake. It is these little things that sets Chess NYC apart from the others.

I myself being a parent love the idea of Chess introduced to children. Times have changed from back when I was in school to the present day! Playing this amazing game not only has benefits to enhancing the brain but a social game and creates life time friendships. I am pro Chess for the KIDS!Anyway back to this organization ChessNYC. I am writing my review because I am very disappointed with the company. My son was in an afterschool chess program led byMichael Propper director of ChessNyc and can reinsure he will no longer attend. He promised my child as well as other children a gift card which he flat out lied. My son was promised a $50 gift card. Crazy how my son received a $5 gift card few months later what a joke I and other parents are disgusted and want an explanation.
