I definitely got the beauty education I wanted and the flight hours in terms of practice; I would recommend the Beauty 101 course, particularly for those unsure how to begin this career. My instructor, Lisa, was amazing. It was a little weird being in there with so many 18 year olds, but thats not really a criticism or the schools fault, I just happened to be coming into this career later in life and didnt have much in common with the people ten years younger (it wasnt something they told me about when touring; they made it seem like a continuing education school). The hair course wasnt worth the money, in my opinion, but I got a teacher who wasnt there often and seemed deeply checked out. Our subs were very knowledgeable, but also disinterested and we couldnt get a good learning rhythm going. There was A LOT of downtime, like an absurd amount. We didnt even touch on African American hair, which was a reason I was willing to pay so much for this particular course. So, I definitely would not recommend the hair course, in case anyone wants to take it as a stand alone class. But, then again, this school isnt a cosmetology school, so hair really isnt their main strength.Overall, Id say that this is still the best place to learn in NYC. It definitely is a good school and the benefits of going there definitely have outweighed any negatives.

I come here on Saturdays for the workshops. Very detail oriented and enjoyable makeup class. They have different themes each week. And the teacher drops little gems of advice that have made my makeup so much better.

I attended Makeup-up Designory for the master program and loved every second of it. It was six months of hard work and dedication, but i truly feel like it made me into a better artist and learned so many helpful skills to help jumpstart my career. Due to them being an accredited school, they are to meet higher standards which i feel is definitely shown in the outcome of my education. The administration was amazing always willing to help when needed, especially when it came to finding jobs! They have frequent hiring events that current students and graduates are both able to attend and a job board that is always being updated for past and present students to have access to for the rest of their lives which is so amazing! When it came to the teachers they were just overall great with so much training and experience behind them which came in handy when asking for advice on how to handle certain situations in the industry and just overall tips and tricks. I loved my time being there and would do my experience a 100 times over!

I actually really enjoyed my experience there! Most of my teachers were really down to earth and had a lot of real world knowledge to pass down. There is some silly drama between students and the makeup definitely isn’t the best quality for the price they make you pay- but it gave me a solid knowledge base for the industry and I’m glad I attended!

Graduated here a few years back and words can describe how graceful I am. They really care for their students and always trying to open doors for them. My experience was awesome!

School is more expensive then it should be-can get the same training for half the price at various locations in the city. The make up is also really low quality. No one in my class used school products if they could help it-choosing to bring their own supplies instead (mind you, you are required to buy hundreds of dollars of MUD brand anyways.) But thats not my real problem with the school. The biggest issue is the absolute lack of professionalism in the staff. (And Id like to clarify I speak of the administration, not the teachers themselves.)My class was full of mean girl high school drama, which I was unwilling pulled into. The administrators saw fit to get involved and were worse then the students in listing to rumors and spreading gossip. I finished my beauty class and dropped out of the rest of the course. It was all so laughable, I went and finished my training via internship in Florida for a sixth of the cost, and threw all their make up in the trash. This school is a joke and doesnt deserve anyone who is serious about their career. I wont even put my time there on my resume- its an embarrassment in the field.

I am a MUD grad student from years ago and all I can say is that the school and their programs are awesome. All of my teachers, back then, were talented, down-to-earth, and very flexible. I am sure the current teachers have the same traits. What I love about this school is that even though you finish your program you can always come back, for life, for career advice and even a attend a class you feel you need to get some reinforcement about😜They also have constant makeup artist speakers working in the field, handle job fairs for their students and grads, etc etc. Plus, you as a student and grad you can a good discount from their shop for life 😍

I am a 2017 graduate and I couldn’t be more mad at this school. I went to that school on the false hope they gave me. They promised me a career after I graduated, I had issues with girls in my class and they did nothing about it just told me that I’m too sensitive. Also, their job board is a HUGE joke. All of the jobs are in LA and for NYC it’s links to indeed. So incredibly annoyed and 100% regret going to this school. Don’t waste your time and money on this school.

Amazing course with MUD in the UK (Hemel Hampstead) fabulous teacher and simple step by step teaching to perfect each stage of a full makeup. I loved the fact that the MUD outlook is giving the MUA his/her own creative licence instead of teaching looks especially loved the products and how versatile they are. Would totally reccomend MUD school UK

Most of the staff are really helpful, they answer your questions and emails very quickly. However if you don’t have any retail experience it can be difficult to find a job. This school is very expensive but the education is good. All the teachers have their own way of applying makeup and teaching.Their makeup products however are extremely cheaply made and kind of just sit on top of your face, they’re also extremely irritating. The eyeshadows and powder makeup are not highly pigmented and cannot be used for professional shoots/ work. You will most likely need to buy an entire brand new kit costing 2-3 thousand, as you know foundations can cost $30-50 per shade and expire in about 1 year.If you want to work in a retail space you should get a few years of retail experience. If you want to do bridal makeup or work for a company then I suggest working on your portfolio to showcase your talents. They do offer free photo shoots for you work, ask the staff which days they host this shoots. Only go to this school if you’re 100% sure that this is what you want to pursue as a career. I know YouTube and Instagram make this career so glamorous but they don’t show you the hard work and dedication it takes to get to where you want to be. If you’re very shy and not a people person then I would suggest a different career path and for you to save your money. If you want to do freelance work then you’re going to have to travel and carry your kit around it can be quite heavy and hard to navigate around the city, if you drive then this shouldn’t be a problem.I also suggest attending a licensing program first such as esthiology or cosmetology. These programs contain some Makeup training and places will be more inclined to hire you if you’re licensed.

If you want to learn technique...have the opportunity to work with ONLY the top modeling agencies and models throughout NYC then this school is definitely for you. MUD really cares about the success of its students and there are incredible resources provided especially career services ! The only thing I must say is the financial aid office was always clueless in nyc and California is who you have to call. Christy Gregory in California is extremely helpful ! And Marissa Green from career services is constantly looking out for the success of students and alumni. However...i think the classes are way too short. You learn alot especially routine and how to rep yourself as a pro MUA but we dont get to learn creative eyeshadow techniques...we learn the rules of makeup. I wish this school allowed more creativity and taught more creativity. Honestly i didnt even learn technique until I got into Beauty 301 and that was because I stayed after school w my instructor and through all the celebrity makeup artists who would sub. Well all in all...if you want to grow in either special fx or in beauty mua then this school is for you 100%. However if you are more creative i.e interested in Drag or just out of the box makeup....id review my options. There are schools in the UK that produce top tier artists creatively and technique wise. Either way cant say really anything bad about MUD. If they extended the program...sure itd be longer and more money but def to the makeup artists benefit !
