We just moved our daughter there for her freshman year. Seems to be in a good area of Manhattan and a nice school for Arts majors. Expensive but if its your childs dream then you make it happen.

Went to school here years ago. Highly over rated and ridiculously expensive. If you have the talent, dont even waste your time or money here. My teachers were terrible as well.

My girlfriend went here for over two years. There are some great teachers and some that should not be allowed to teach - all sorts of inappropriate behavior from multiple teachers. The administration only cares about money and covers up indecent behavior. Don’t expect an answer from your advisor on important matters. Expect to be constantly ignored. And expect different answers from different departments on important matters like financial aid, creating un unfair amount of stress for students. For how much they charge, they do not offer enough. In fact, my girlfriend found SVA to be more of a hinderance to her education than a help. She is doing so much better now that she left.

I truly appreciate to have me in 1999. You provide workshops for high school for arts and business. I enjoyed the challenge of reality through art. Unfortunately, my aunt wanted me to do nursing and not help with school funds. I was blessed to have Mr.Sierra to support me in art and I was lucky presented my high school to your programs. Its memorable of my life.

I really enjoy the classes for their pre-college program! It really helped me with my struggling parts that I need for my portfolio. I heard the dorms are nice, and clean, but its quite expensive although its a private school.

Although my view may seem subjective, it most certainly is not. My experience at this school was a great short-lived experience. Initially, I had lots of fun, and I mean lots of fun and by lots of fun I MEAN LOTS OF FUN, BRO YOU DONT EVEN UNDERSTAND, I QUACKED THE TEACHER SO HARD AND 9 MONTHS LATER WE HAD A KID, YAH YEET, THAT KID THEN GREW UP AND BECAME AMERICA. Thank you people of America, goodnight and god bless. *drops mic*

Teachers dont push students unless they want to be pushed, and it seems the administration cares more about money than their students having a positive experience. A lot of the students there also treat it like a summer camp and dont take their classes seriously, which is insulting to the others who actually worked hard and struggled to pay their tuition. Overall, unless you have $40k a year to pay out of pocket or get a full ride, Id recommend going elsewhere

I loved SVA so much I almost cried when I had to graduate. You get out of it what you put into it. Pick the brains of the teachers and staff. They are professionals in their fields. I have recouped all my tuition and continue to make money with my art which is now in collections around the world. Thank you SVA!

Fine arts is not what it used to be here. The school now seems to lean toward commercial.Generally, student painting showcases are now lackluster.New York Studio School has emerged as the best for fine arts in NYC.Also, respected: Hunter College, Yale and Columbia. Many state schools also have good fine art programs.

I can only comment on their gym, but it is very nice. Amazing courts and hoops. The wing three point lines are pretty narrow. They also have massive windows that can be retracted.

I love this school. Im in the film and video department. Compared to all the other college kids i know, this school sounds to much better honestly. You just have to pick your teachers and class wisely according to how much you want to succeed.

This is the worst most unhelpful school. If you want to just stand around and talk about how great it would be to be a successful artist them go here. If you actually want to become one then do it yourself because going here isnt going to get you anywhere. The only helpful person in this school is Richard Wilde.

If I were allowed I wouldnt even rate this school one star. The way the people handle things at this school is completely illegal and fraudulent. Shame on this school for taking young inspired students with immeasurable talent and finding literally anything to kick them out!

The teachers were mostly great. The administration is snub and thinks they are in some competition with you rather than focusing on making sure you got the right tools to learn. Dont expect them to be friendly once youve entered their premiss.

The SVA Registrar building has inept workers. Well, one particular inept worker. I went into their office because my Student ID stopped working and Residence Hall Director at my dorm directed me to the Registrar. I explained this to one of the workers, but she didnt understand what I meant, and she was speaking to me in a really condescending way. She thought I just needed a sticker, so I kept repeating my ID is not working and she finally got it. She promptly told me to go back to my Residence building and that I could get my ID fixed there. She really seemed like she couldnt be bothered to help me. So I went back and for the next two weeks I kept bugging them about it. As it turned out there was no way for them to activate my ID. It had to be done at the Registrar. So not only was that woman rude to me, but she gave me the wrong advice. Today I went back to the Registrar and spoke to a different worker who was very nice and helpful, a redheaded woman. I explained my problem to her and she activated my ID and it only took a few minutes. All in all my ID is fixed now, but that first worker still gave me terrible service. I hope she sees this, the lazy bum.

I was a fine art student at SVA way back in the early 70s when they were not accredited but in 1992 with a few more classes from Grossmont college in San Diego,CA I received my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. I rode the train every day from Jersey about an hour in and an hour back.I loved it there. Best teachers for me were Harvey Dinnerstein for painting and Mr. Martinez for drawing. In between class I would play harmonica or flute in one of the obscure stairways for an hour or two and sometimes head down to the village to buy tickets at the Fillmore East. Great time, great school.

MFA Computer Arts was fantastic (2003/2005)! I became best friends with some of my teachers, Rich Shuppe is a genius, and I fell in love with our advisor Russet Lederman (thank you for letting me be myself)…It was hard but also the best time of my life… I worked hard afterwards and covered my loan in 5 years time… without the skills and enthusiasm that they thought me there that would not be possible… One day I might take some more classes there… This school was the best part of NYC and my 13 years of live there! Thank you.

Went from 2003-2005 and completed the first two years of their film school. I left because the courses were bland and they offered nothing in the way of job placement assistance or career help. I cut my losses, $40,000 worth of student loans Im still paying off almost ten years later, and left before I wasted even more money. Worst financial decision of my life to attend this school!

The World system proposes or indicates that what is good you have to pay, for example the Opera, restaurants with three Michelin stars etc, the same happens here. SVA is great in teaching staff, facilities ... Almost everyone who graduates acquires a proper name working incredibly. It is one of the 5 best in the world, and has a Spanish teacher, who is an artist since he was born. I leave it there to inquire. I recommend SVA always !!
