Overall a wonderful experience and structure to learn a new language. Although I miss some classes due to my inconsistent schedule, I am able to keep up with the provided workbook. I recently finished level 2 and signed up for level 3. Alexandra is a competent teacher who is able to simplify what could be complicated topics. Also, she makes the online class enjoyable with a friendly environment.

As a native Spanish speaker, I really enjoyed working with Alejandro Navarro. He corrected me when I needed it, his assignments helped me practice talking about my personal interests in Spanish, he went out of his way to make the class feel comfortable to speak, and he responds when given feedback from the students. I recommend his courses for any level.

Nicholas is a wonderful teacher. I have had Nelson as a substitute and he is wonderful as well.I would recommend them both. I think 3.5 stars is probably more accurate, but 3 is too low. As many folks have said the quality of the course can depend a lot on the levels of the other students in your class, and levels tend to be all over the place despite testing in. Teachers are good and good-natured, though everything is pretty formulaic: no one is poking around trying to find even better ways to teach language. Pricing is fair and the Spanish spoken is good.

What a great company.2 sessions into my classes (which were so great), I broke my jaw. After surgery I emailed them saying I may be dropping out of class as I cannot speak currently. They told me not to worry about a thing and I would have a class to return to anytime in the next six months. In the crazy dumspter fire that is 2020, I am so grateful to their customer service and amazing teaching. This is the kind of company other learning services aspire to be and Im so happy I chose them. I cant wait to continue my education with Berges.

While looking around for a Spanish class to take to heighten my skills in Spanish, I found this one thanks to a coupon on Groupon. I wanted to express really quick how much I enjoyed my time taking the classes here. Thanks to the current pandemic, I was able to experience the Spanish classes both in person and online. In person was great, the classroom felt like an actual classroom, the textbook that were handed out was very informative and explain things well. While the location was a bit tricky to find to be honest, after you go there a few times you start getting the hang of the location. My instructor, Karen, was also a sweetheart too. She explained everything well, and was super patient with us as well, and knew well how to teach when the classes moved online as well. For anyone taking classes at this Institute I highly suggest signing up for her class if you know that shes instructing them.Overall the Berges Institute was a great experience, and I learn alot during my first level of Spanish there. I will definitely come back to level 2 once the school reopens again after the pandemic.

I started here a few years ago in level 3 after having taken Spanish in college nearly 20 years before that. After a break and a class or 2 at another Spanish institute, I returned here because of their straight-forward, no nonsense approach to language learning. Im now at level 5 and have enjoyed learning from my teacher (who will remain anonymous so that hopefully his/her class wont become too overcrowded). Since the prices are affordable, I plan to continue after this class by taking a conversation class. My confidence in speaking continues to grow and I find myself speaking to Spanish in my head without even meaning to. I highly recommend Berges to learn Spanish.

I have to be honest, my first class and impression of Berges was not good. My teacher Alexandra was about an hour late. Additionally she was not teaching the class like a beginner class. I was under the impression that this class was for absolute beginners. I have never taken a spanish class before including in high school. I was looking for a teacher to be going slowly and at the beginning most of the class to be in English. That was not the case with Alexandra. She was speaking Spanish mostly, and I was incredibly overwhelmed and felt like the class was completely over my head. I reached out to Berges and the way they handled my complaints was incredibly professional. I truly felt like they cared about getting me in the right class. Fast forward to being in Jennifers class. She teaches how I expected the class to be. She takes her time, I make plenty of mistakes, but Im not scared to make a mistake in front of the class. It feels very non-judgmental. I have a learning disorder that makes learning a second language a bit harder than most, but I feel like Berges really takes all different learning styles into consideration. I also really feel like I am learning.

This place is great. I would recommend this place for any Spanish language learning enthusiasts. Great teachers, great reception/customer service and a provision of make up class if you cannot attend a class. I started level 1 through a groupon discount and ended up finishing all 5 levels. I had a great experience and Maria in NYC is a great instructor. I took Level 1 Spanish for Absolute Beginners in NYC. Due to covid-19 the class got moved to online for the majority of the classes. I must say it was an effortless transition due to already having a good online foundation. Also want to mention I was not an absolute beginner, as I grew up around spanish and being able to say small words or phrases, but I could not hold a conversation at all. By the end of taking classes here AND doing a lot of studying and practicing I was able to understand basic conversations and hold conversations myself. I was also able to listen to native level spanish and atleast be able to understand bits and pieces (considering the speed, thats good)So yeah, pricey but worth it. At the very least take the basic level and itll give you a good basis to learn on your own.

I am now an online student of Dans after being an in-person one-on-one student of his in NYC (I moved to the west coast this summer). I had taken Spanish in high school, so I was familiar with the grammar and knew some vocabulary, but I could hardly string together two words in a conversation. My lessons with Dan have made all the difference for me in actually speaking the beautiful language! He is an absolutely fantastic teacher! He is extremely patient and encouraging, which has been so important in helping me develop my confidence as a speaker. Also, hes super smart, informed, and has a great sense of humor, so Ive managed to improve my fluency and comprehension while also laughing and learning a lot about Spanish culture, history and politics. As far as the transition to being an online student goes, its actually made meeting with him even more convenient: the video and sound are very clear, synced, and theres no lag (and theres no time spent commuting). Learning a new language is hard, but Dan has really made it easier and more fun than I could have imagined. I highly recommend taking lessons with him!

Decent, but not great.I have taken numerous intermediate to advanced Spanish classes at Berges Institue for years. Ive also studied intensively in many other Spanish language schools in Central and South America, Spain and even New York. I would rank Berges as a decent school, but leaning toward mediocre. There are a handful of good teachers, yet the classes are very crowded. Friends of mine taking beginner level Spanishoften complain that overcrowding is a considerable problem, which forces teachers to teach too fast for elementary Spanish. In high intermediate and advanced classes students of lower Spanish levels are often permitted, which is a real drag for students of said level. Lower level students struggle, requiring more help and time from the teacher, which feels entirely unfair for the advanced students paying for an advanced class. Berges Administration is a shifty character. I found that they have no loyalty to long-term students and will change rules to suit their billing needs. Students enrolled in a class are eligible for discounted private lessons. Pay close attention though, because Berges will change terms on those private lessons at any given moment. If you can manage to use the private lesson, I have found them to be helpful. Most of the Spanish instructors at Berges are good, yet as I write this, I realize just how many negatives there are to consider about this school. If you get a good teacher, it might be worth the hassle. Ladies, watch out for the bald teacher that wants to be a rock star. He is on a mission.

Even though my teacher Maria was great, I have had a very negative experience in terms of administration. As a result of an administrative issue, a private class I scheduled resulted in me having to run to another location receiving 20 minutes less than that for which I had paid. Further, a new class to which I had registered was cancelled but I was not informed. The student representative told me that for some reason I hadnt been registered for the class and therefore I hadnt been informed of the cancellation. This, in spite of the fact that tuition had been paid and I had attended the first class. Not looking forward to the rescheduling/ refund process.

I took basic conversation with Rolando and coming to class was one of the highlights of my week. The classes are small, so there’s plenty of time to speak and learn. I also thought that the placement of other students in the class was appropriate as I felt that everyone spoke at about the same level, which was helpful. I never felt embarrassed to speak up in class and Rolando was helpful in correcting verb tenses/usage, introducing colloquial phrases, and teaching vocabulary words. This class is best for someone who is self-motivated to learn as there is no repurcusion in not doing your homework, but it’s worth the extra work and being able to have thoughtful and engaging discussion in class. I feel more comfortable speaking Spanish after this 12-week course and would highly recommend to anyone looking for a place to practice their Spanish.

I cant say enough good things about the Berges Institute. My tutor, Vanessa, is the perfect Spanish teacher. When I started our weekly tutoring sessions back in March, I had some basic knowledge of the language, but once I actually tried using it, I quickly realized that I was really far away from being able to speak. Boy was I wrong: Thanks to Vanessas patience and her accommodating and flexible teaching structure, I was forming full sentences by the second lesson. Within a month, I was discussing the news of the day with relative ease, and, most importantly, having fun doing it! Thats what its all about: Learning a language and enjoying yourself at the same time. There is simply no other way to do it! And with Vanessa I have finally found the kind of tutor who isnt afraid to put down the stuffy textbook if it gets too boring and just play it by ear. If youve had a negative experience with language learning in the past like I have you know how important that is. Long story short, if youre searching for a Spanish teacher who actually *cares* about your progress and *wants* to help you achieve your goals stop looking -- youve found one.

I took Spanish classes with Dan last year and it was a great experience. I wanted to learn the basics of the language so I could have a foundation to build on. I was also leaving for a month long trip to South America and had a really tight schedule. Dan was a great teacher; Very patient, flexible, and made me feel super comfortable. I feel like its always awkward to attempt to speak a new language, but Dan really encouraged conversation and I think that made a huge difference in how quickly I picked up the language. Dan provided a lot of structure for me to learn but was very creative in making it fun as well. He brought classic poems and song lyrics for us to read together so it wouldnt be the usual mundane I went to the train station, etc. etc. I really appreciated the experience and how comfortable I felt with the language at the end of class. I think it made a huge difference to learn with an individual and a native speaker rather than just from books. Overall, highly recommended!

The beginners class is advertised for someone who has no experience in Spanish, however, the pace moves so quickly and the teacher expects so much and has very little patience for a true beginner. Most of the other students in the beginner class studied Spanish for quite a number of years in High School or college and the teacher moves at their pace. I do not recommend it if you are starting from scratch. If you have studied already for at least a year, then its probably a good place to learn some more.

This Spanish school is the best in NYC. After finishing all 5 levels you will speak like a native. And if not then close to it. I think all employers should sign up their employees for this school, every single penny invested is going to be worth it and will bring millions in return. To live and work and be successful in NYC everyone just has to know Spanish, there is no question about it. By the way, I am a student at this school, close to the final line and I know what I am talking about. Before this school I had lost all my hope that I will ever get Spanish, so difficult it is, especially the grammar. And now, at the final steps, I cant believe I am already speaking in it!
