The instructors at Teaching House are really professional and supportive of your career goals. I had a great experience here as a student and felt well-prepared to teach after graduating with my CELTA. When I asked for feedback on my resume three months after graduation, I got input right away and the advice is extremely useful. Im glad I chose Teaching House!

An excellent ESL school. Highly recommended. I recently took and passed my CELTA with Teaching Houses online CELTA course. I want to thank the entire staff, including, Nahal, Lizzy, David, and Peter, for a wonderful learning experience. Thank you, Evan!

I took the CELTA during Covid-19, so it was completely online. My experience will likely be different than those who took the face to face course. In any case it was well conducted. The teachers were professional and extremely helpful. At no point did I feel I was on my own. If you needed hand holding they did that, and as you progressed through the course you were given more freedom to express yourself through your lessons.

I had an exceptional experience with the Teaching House program in the April - May 4 week intensive course. The tutors were wonderful and my learning curve was steep. Not an easy undertaking due to the sheer volume of work required in such a short time frame but the course is designed to test your metal in that you learn while doing. All at the same time: intake, process, learn, apply to real students. All at the same time! BRAVO TEACHING HOUSE NY! Excellent experience!

CELTA training at Teaching House NYC was one of the best training experiences Ive ever had as a teacher. I did the one-month intensive course and left wishing Id done it before my prior years as an EFL teacher. Very structured, rigorous classes with excellent instructors who helped me even after the course ended. Highly recommend!

Unfortunately, I had a really bad experience. These people dont have their act together. There is no standardization or communication between the staff, so rotating trainers mid-way through the course impacts your grade negatively because theyre each looking for different things when they assess you.Furthermore, there is no rubric for what determines how you will be assessed for each lesson -- trainers can literally give you whatever grade they want and there is no accountability or oversight. I asked them to write a rubric, but they refused.Their feedback was generally terrible, vague, and sometimes disagreed with what the textbook said. In one instance, a trainer bad-mouthed a lesson I taught that SHE WROTE. Just to be clear, a trainer handed me a lesson to teach, then I taught the lesson, then the trainer blamed me for the lesson that SHE WROTE, claiming that the first part dragged on too long because there I gave the students too many questions. Again, she wrote the LESSON, QUESTIONS INCLUDED, and I just performed her lesson. One trainer in particular, Paula, is the rudest and most unprofessional person I have ever met in my life. She is guiltlessly condescending, obnoxious, and still has the audacity to regard herself as being the most sought-after tutor in America. Her feedback was particularly bad and often made me burst out laughing after our feedback sessions because of how ridiculous and nonsensical it was.Not everything about the course is bad and some trainers are OK but I would recommend not making the same mistake I did and consider this options instead:1) Taking this course in another city where its easier to get a Pass A/B because Teaching House NYC trainers are TOUGH GRADERS.2) Taking this course at St. Giles in New York instead because Ive heard its basically the same, but $300 cheaper.

I did my DELTA Module 2 with Teaching House New York; it was extremely intense (as was expected), but I learned a lot and the trainers, Lise and Paula, were excellent - so helpful, encouraging, and knowledgeable. The staff and students at Teaching House were really lovely as well. Thank you very much for a positive learning experience!

I just completed my CELTA at teaching house NY. I learned a lot and became a much better teacher over this time. The course was difficult and stressful. (I recommend taking the part time course) The course was also a lot of fun. My trainers were great and so were my colleagues. I am now in a much better position to obtain my next teaching job.

Recently took the full time CELTA course with Sarah and Colleen, both highly experienced, capable, and attentive tutors. The Cambridge TESOL frameworks is officious, yet mind opening and efficient. Learned a great deal.Well located, facility is clean, friendly and responsive staff.

Teaching Houses CELTA course, though demanding, gave me the teaching experience and knowledge required to be a successful and professional TEFL teacher. The course aims to provide students with accurate information, skills and training to guarantee they leave the course with a sound understanding of teaching English, as well as a clearer picture of the TEFL business as a whole. The 11-week part-time course offers an intense and detailed curriculum which is taught and supervised by experienced teacher trainers who were available to help me learn the most effective teaching methods. I learned effective classroom management by teaching real non-native speakers and applying the skills taught to me by the trainers in my lesson plans. While the CELTA course is considered a rigorous, it gave me the tools needed to pursue a successful English language teaching career.

Do NOT invest your hard-earned money for a CELTA certification course at Teaching House New York. They are not particularly honest about how they will aid you in obtaining a teaching job or in moving forward with your teaching career despite their promises. After the rather expensive class, they refer you to jobs sites, which you can do on your own. They do not even want to help you with reference letters because they are too lazy to write one and couldn’t be bothered once they have your money. A month after I took a class in the school, I requested a letter from one of my teachers and she denied knowing me or promising me one even though I told her I would request a letter from her when I was taking her class! Even the CELTA certificate itself was printed with such poor quality-paper that when I received mine, I had to call the school to make sure I received the right thing (you know what I am talking if you received yours from TH…it is a joke).Believe me, CELTA is not all it is cracked up to be. Worse part, after your have invested your hard-earned money, Teaching House still has the nerve to demand that students can either BUY their reports and lesson plans that they (the students) prepared during the course or the school will recycle them. That’s right, they want to sell your work back to you. Teaching House is NOT recommended in my opinion. Spend you money elsewhere. You are better off investing your money in a job-training course with ANOTHER institution that has a genuine interest in seeing their students succeed.

Unless you have strong job connections, do not bother in spending a non-refundable $3,000 on the CELTA certification course at Teaching House New York. The job market in the USA, especially in the ESL education field, is very bad. I completed the course in 2014, applying to 30+ companies in select states in the US, and other countries. I failed in securing employment with a decent company. From past experiences of applying to employers, I can say that even if the CELTA is from the University of Cambridge, there is little to no regard for it. Once Teaching House New York gets your 3,000, they will not help you at in finding a ESL teaching job.I gave up on pursuing a career in TESOL, because it had gotten to the point where I was not being considered for ESL teaching positions that I met the qualifications/requirements for. Furthermore, Teaching House New York immediately refused to help me when I asked, because they saw me as a person who was asking them to do my homework, when that was not the reason at all.

I completed a CELTA course at Teaching House in December of 2015. As most already know, the CELTA is regarded as the most intense - and equally the most highly respected - TEFL certification. I am particularly glad I completed this course with Teaching House New York, and believe that it provides one with the best possible introduction to the TEFL world for the following reasons. The quality of the trainers I had at Teaching House made the course. The staff was very professional, personable, punctual, and funny. It was from simply observing my trainers and noticing their ability to balance professional expectations with genuine human interaction, that I gained the greatest insights into how to both enjoy teaching and how to be an effective teacher. The structure of the CELTA course itself will provide you with the professional nuts and bolts, but the trainers will ceaselessly model to you what a great teacher actually is throughout the course.Secondly, the location is great. Because Teaching House New York is in the middle of Manhattan, you will be teaching a very interesting and dynamic array of students from many parts of the world. The 60 or more students I worked with during my course included: students from Chile and China, young professionals from Japan and Mexico, an up-an-coming actor from Rio de Janeiro, an economics professor from Madrid, and a Turkish national on holiday who introduced our class to Turkish Delights. If nothing else this diversity in students makes for a fascinating course. But also, because my students ranged so dramatically in age, nationality, and native language, by the end of the course I genuinely felt prepared to TEFL in any location in the world. Im not certain I would have felt the same had I completed my CELTA with a different company in a less global city.Although Teaching House does not focus on actually placing you professionally - as the CELTA course is about becoming a great teacher and not about how to best navigating the TEFL job market - the trainers do an excellent job of helping educate you in the TEFL world and pointing you in the right direction professionally. In short, I would highly recommend Teaching House New York to anyone who is seriously interested in investing the time, effort, and money into giving themselves the best possible introduction to TEFL.

I took the course during the summer of 2016. The course can be demanding, yet this is to be expected from a crash course program. Many participants struggled, but that is part of the learning process. The feedback from the instructors could tend to be blunt, and sometimes bordered on rude. I would rather receive harsh criticisms as a student while I have time to fix my mistakes, versus receiving them on the job, where poor teaching habits could cost me a job.
