My family and I are so happy we decided to join the Penguin City Swim family. We had a terrible experience with the YMCA and was skeptical about signing up for future swimming programs. However, after extensive research, we decided to move forward with Penguin City Swim.The quality of service is impeccable from the owner Craig, down to the administrative staff. After 10 sessions, my daughter is a superstar swimmer and son is no longer afraid of the water.This program is unmatched (10x better than the YMCA). My daughter has been coming to penguin city swim for the last 6 months. Craig and his teamof instructors have been amazing and I would highly recommend them to everyone. It’s amazing to see how far he’s come since starting with Penguin City just a few months ago. My son is four years old and started swimming classes in April. I still remember his first-class my son was afraid to enter the pool; Craig helped him overcome his fear. Since then, we have taken seasonal and private classes, and we will now take twice a week classes. Penguin City Swim is hands down the best place on the Upper East Side for adults or anyone of any age to learn how to swim. (Ive tried other programs). Craig, the owner, and his staff are very accommodating in allowing you to choose the type of lessons (private, semi-private, group, etc.) that fit your schedule and preferences best. Flexibility is important and Penguins services are unmatched.In the water, Aaron Sung is a fantastic, top-notch instructor and Ive made substantial progress since working with him (i.e, from not being able to do anything in the water to freestyling laps in ~2 months). What sets Penguin City Swim apart from its competitors is that they focus on YOU. The lessons are customized to fit your current level, your preferences, and what you specifically want to achieve. In other programs, instructors follow a rigid program that are not as cost-effective or efficient time-wise. Not here. As an adult, I highly recommend that all parents bring their kids out to learn a valuable life skill and encourage all adults to consider Penguin Swim if serious about swimming to survive, to have fun, or competitively.

I had my daughter enrolled in swim classes here since before she turned 3 so for almost 1 year. Juan was her instructor. She made great progress in her swimming skills until their business shut down unfortunately due to the pandemic. Juan and my daughter had such great chemistry and she really looked forward to the classes. Everyone at Penguin city has been very welcoming and professional. If we were not moving to Miami, I would have definitely continued my daughter and enrolled my 18 month old as well.Wishing you guys all the best. THANK YOU!

I have two boys, one 5 and the other 18 months. They both began at Penguin, under the age of 1. The baby loves it so much, and the eldest swims like a fish. The instructors are great at what they do, and always flexible with their time if need be. They treat us like family, and we would highly recommend it to anyone. If you want confidence your child knows how to behave around a pool, and that they have the skills to “really swim”, choose Penguin City.

Miles is wonderful to work with and runs a GREAT swim school. My daughter is truly learning how to swim rather than splashing around in the water. We have been taking classes for a couple months and I am more than pleased with her progress. Her teacher is Juan, he is WONDERFUL

My son has taken classes for a little over two years at Penguin City Swim. I cant express how much he has grown as a swimmer and being comfortable in the water with his excellent instructor, Gino. He was very hesitant and nervous in the water when he first started. His swimming technique has greatly improved through the guidance of his instructor and he now loves being in the water. I highly recommend this excellent swim school. They do an excellent job at meeting the needs of their students and listening to any concerns you or your child may have.

Just an awesome experience. Started with the water tots class on Sunday afternoons and now onto one on one lessons. My son looks forward to swim every weekend and has gotten so comfortable with floating, jumping in and putting his head under the water. Highly recommend for anyone looking to get their kids comfortable with the water.

Best swim school in NYC Ive found so far!I have tried about 4 swim schools at this point, because of scheduling difficulty and one special needs kid. Some schools have been better than others, but I wasnt thrilled with any of them until I found Penguin City. We were referred by a friend, and Im so glad I tried it. The teaching is just in a different category of quality, attentiveness, and customization, as compared to other schools. The business is also run very well, and it shows in their daily operations: the bosses there are hands-on leaders, and are at the pool watching the lessons and instructors every week we have been there - that is the opposite of the hands-off, where did they go approach to the other schools Ive seen. My kids have made huge strides in their swimming in a short period of time. Penguin City is very responsive to scheduling questions and emails (helpful for working parents), easy to work with, and convenient for upper east siders. But the standout reason Im a devotee is the high quality teaching - I feel like my kids are being taught by real professionals, as opposed to college kids who like swimming and hanging out in a pool with kids. I couldnt be happier so far - highly recommended.

The Penguin City team has been instrumental in helping my toddlers fall in love with the water! Juan is AMAZING! I cant say enough good things about how patient and gentle he is with children. Both of my children have made tremendous progress under his tutelage.

My son has been swimming with Penguin City Swim for about 2 1/2 years now and we have nothing but fabulous things to say about his lessons with them. When he started he was very hesitant and wouldn’t get his face anywhere near the water. The instructors continued to work with him week after week until he conquered his fears and now he has turned into a little fish! His swimming skills have improved exponentially and he’s now really starting to perfect some of the strokes which is just awesome to see. But most importantly he is now comfortable in the water which is such an important skill. I highly recommend Penguin City Swim to anyone looking for swim lessons in the city.

Great for adults too! Ben is a fantastic instructor for a private stroke clinic. I have been swimming for a few months and wanted more help learning proper freestyle stroke techniques. I took a 30 minute private class and Ben was in the water swimming with me the entire time analyzing and refining my stroke technique. He was very helpful and gave me some drills so that I could practice on my own. I will definitely book more lessons with him. The pool is clean and just long enough for adults to swim laps. For my lesson we had an entire lane to ourselves, which was great.

Both of our children learned how to swim so beautifully! We love Penguin City Swim. They have kind nurturing instructors and their pools are warm and clean. Highly recommend!

One of the few best, if not THE best swim instruction in the city. Many years experience with all ages. In just a few lessons, our 6 year old granddaughter understood how to do the front crawl! And hold her breath -- even swim -- underwater. She has no fear of the water thanks to the expert, and empathic technique of her instructors. We show up joyful and enthusiastic every week impatient to jump in! Recommended without reservation...

I have 2 kids in penguin city swim and they both LOVE the classes. they always want to go and their swimming has improved tremendously. miles is great and so are all the instructors he hires. one of the best extra-curriculars my kids have ever done. if you want your kids to swim, this is the place to do it.

My son arrived at his first Penguin City Swim lesson just weeks ago with a fear of deep water and simple rudimentary swimming skills. Thanks to the encouragement of Penguin Citys calm, diligent teachers, he is now jumping in the water and swimming four different swimming strokes with confidence. The change has been unbelievable. My 4 year old really enjoys being in the water with the instructor. There are so many games to get comfortable in the water he was ok floating [with support] by the second lesson. I observed other children in their lessons and they really were having fun while getting comfortable being in the water.

Truly grateful to Penguin City and their amazing teachers. Our 3-year old receives special needs services at school and has had problems with participating in sports activities, so we decided to give swimming a try. We started private lessons at Penguin City with coach Juan, who is a saint.The first lesson, our son was crying not stop and screaming so loud you could probably hear him on the street. My wife and I had concerns if we could continue, but the director, Craig, spoke to us, and told us coach Juan and the whole staff was committed to getting our son to become a swimmer. We asked if we should get in the pool with him, and they said that while that would be the “easy way out”, it would bit help his profession. So we trusted them.And, we are so glad we did. The next couple lessons were still filled with some crying and screaming, but coach Juan pressed on, and got him more comfortable in the water, and the crying turned into laughter.A couple months later now, our son lights up when he gets to the pool and sees coach Juan, and has fun in the pool. He is leaning to kick, put his face in the water, float, etc.The facilities, the organization and those types of things are great. But what sets Penguin City apart (we have done multiple programs in the area for our older son) is how committed and professional the staff are.
